It is first DOUBT that falls upon him. That tiny nagging voice in the back of his head, ever-present, whispering seething little nothings in an attempt to convince himself that such sentiments are misplaced, that he is UNDESERVING of such a grand title. Yet the Messenger’s smile, small and sweet, gives off that SINCERITY that Castiel has come to know in their eons of kinship, and the pet name tacked onto the end of it is enough to soften his weary heart, even if just for the moment.
He lowers his gaze, head bowed in a quiet bashfulness. If one were to look closely, they’d find tints of red blooming in his cheeks. He utters a soft response, laden with something genuine. ❛ . . . Thank you. ❜

FUN, DON’T ACT LIKE Y’DON’T KNOW the meanin’ of the word. » they had good times together, they seemed so long ago— perhaps all the blamed lay upon the weak humanity within him ; partially in part due to the demonic nature that now envelops his soul. the followed question, receives another eyeroll from the demon caddycorner to the angel : it felt like such a cretinous joke, a demon and an angel walk into a restaurant. dean snorts to himself, choosing to ignore the eerie stare coming from the other for the time being. hand drops down and he flicks a crumb in the angels direction. now his own malachite gaze fixates, within the same exact manner. « y’mean like murderin’ people who deserve it? are those part of the activities y’were thinkin’? news flash, you’ve done it before an’ y’weren’t even ya know…. or are we just gonna forget that y’can have fun? c’mon cas, » smirk creeps onto his lips, mischievous glint to his hues. « you’d rather have the mopin’ shell of a man I was back? »
it’s then that his weighted stare finally breaks, hardened eyes fixated instead on the tabletop as if the grain of the wood will provide him solace against dean’s accusations ( all of which, to his utmost dismay, are no lie merely fabricated from demonic tendencies ). his jaw sets, teeth clenched tight, as he battles to stifle the swirling mass of resentment that storms within his chest ------ what he finds most disturbing, however, is that the resentment is outweighed by something far deeper than shallow loyalty that keeps him from ditching dean where he sits. the demon’s next remark, however, finally earns castiel’s gaze back; but this time it’s much sharper, with a poignant ferocity that turns soft pools of blue into flames. fingers clench the table in a white-knuckled grip as he leans forward, slowly making his way into the other’s space. ❛ --------- yes. ❜ it’s something almost feral in nature, as though he’s been personally insulted. he wants him back. ❛ without question. ❜
