Feeling very emotional about reading a manga with not one, but THREE asexual characters! Chika is aroace, Ishii, her professor/mentor, is agender and aroace, and her housemate Ume is also ace. Each of them have different experiences and fall into different places on the ace spectrum. There are other queer characters in the story, including Chika's new friend, Ito, who is gay. This manga is all about self-examination, focusing on Chika discovering that she's asexual and aromantic. She questions everything and, in psychology major style, likes to have conversations with her friends, housemates, and other students about how they define romance and sexual attraction. I liked her approach to exploring her sexuality, and how the discussions she has with others leads them to realize their biases and drop the concept of "normal," realizing that each person is different and there isn't a standard way to be. I loved her friend group! They're fun, supportive, and willing to be open with each other.

This manga is an insta fave for me! It really hit close to home in a lot of ways and left me feeling validated and seen. My high school self could identify a lot with Chika and her experiences; like Ume, I made mistakes when I was still trying to figure things out and fit into what other people called "normal." Currently I'm happy, self-aware, and find myself more like Ishii - aroace, nonbinary, and living my life as best as I can. I'm excited for others to read this manga and get a perspective on ace people and the queer community!
