10 tips to get your life together

1. Start a skincare routine

I know this sounds silly but this is a very easy and simple way to make you feel motivated and organised. Starting a skin routine will not only make you feel better, it will also make you feel healthier and more confident. It only takes 10 minutes, morning and night, and you can cater your skin routine to fit your personal needs. Also it will make your skin look AMAZING.

2. Start a diary/to-do list

My tip for this, coming from an excessive procrastinator, is only put 3 things to do each day. This way you don’t overwhelm yourself with tasks, and it is easy to complete and after you have done it you will feel a lot better about yourself. Instead of doing 15 things in one day, do 3 things a day for a period of 5 days. Starting a to-do list/diary will give you the push to actually do what you have put on it. Writing down all of the things that you have to do will make the tasks seem easier and it will be less overwhelming.

3. Read a book

Reading a book that you enjoy, not one that you have to read, is a great way to clear your mind. I recommend reading for 30 minutes before going to bed. Make sure you have the book in a physical copy, not on your phone/other electronic devise, as using these before bed can negatively affect your sleep. This kills two birds with one stone: Reading, and not going on your phone before bed

4. Exercise!

Whether this is 15 star jumps in the morning or 3 hours in the gym, exercise is a great way to feel more confident about yourself. Also, when you exercise, your body releases endorphins which make you happy! :) This will also help you to be healthier which is an added bonus.

5.Do your homework the night you get it

Obviously this is only if its possible, but leaving your homework until the night before its due in is a terrible habit to get into, which just ends up in you feeling stressed. Getting your homework out of the way the night it’s set will help you feel more prepared and less worried.

6. Read ahead

About to start a new topic? Read ahead. This means you will be ahead of everyone in your class, which will make you feel more confident, and it means that once it is taught to you, you will have a better understanding of it and if you don’t understand anything, you can ask once it is taught.

7. Clean your room every night

Cleaning your room every night will mean that you will feel more organised and you won’t have much to clean up the next night. Trying to work in a messy room will make you feel unmotivated and you will be more likely to procrastinate. The same goes for if your desk is messy. A clean room is a clean mind!

8. Make your bed in the morning

I see this posted everywhere, but still people don’t understand the importance of it! Making your bed in the morning will make you feel prepared and you will start your day will a clear mind. Its one thing off of your list of things to do.

9. Drink lots of water!

Being dehydrated can be a cause for headaches, fatigue and many other things that will make you feel unmotivated and down. Drinking at least 5 glasses of water a day will not only make you healthier, it will also make you feel generally better and happier.

10. Get at least 8 hours sleep!

This one is so important! For teenagers, 7 or less hours sleep is considered as sleep deprivation. Being sleep deprived can cause things such as: Bad concentration skills, a lack of motivation and also decreases your chances of remembering something by 40%! Enough sleep is crucial for having a good day and getting those A* grades your aiming for!

Any questions, feel free to ask!

A-level Tips

1. Pick subjects you enjoy. There is no point in picking a subject because you need it for a career even though you hate it.

2. A-levels are a massive jump from GCSE and as a result you will fail at least one test in the first month. Don’t worry about it.

3. Start studying straight away. You may have a free period on your first day back, use at least half of it to review material you covered that day.

4. Seriously, use study periods to actually study. Visit teachers of you need to, but get work done. Don’t talk to your friends for the whole period.

5. Sit on your own in study, if needs be. Shut down conversations if you want to study. Put earphones in if it helps.

6. Stay on top of everything. Use a planner, you will most likely have two teachers per subject giving you different deadlines for different homeworks/tests in the same subject.

7. Keep up-to-date with your notes. Don’t do them the day before the exam. It will not help. You won’t remeber all that much.

8. Your teachers are your ‘new best friend’s if you don’t understand a topic or a theory, ask for help. You won’t be able to bluff your way through it now.

9. Past Papers! Do all the past papers from your exam board. Ask your teachers if they have any older ones. They are particularly helpful in maths as you learn the style of questions asked.

10.Actually read and use the text book. Some of my note from school left information out or included irrelevant information.

11.Post-It notes are great for adding information to text books without writing on them. Carry some with you in your pencil case.

Can anyone think of anymore?

Above all else, if you need a break take one. If you want to spend the day watching Grey’s Anatomy, do it. Don’t burn yourself out, it’s not worth it and if you’re struggling ask for help from anyone you trust.

Good Luck!

I saw the penguin parade. It was a very slow parade, because the pingüinos take their sweet time and aren’t very fast walkers to begin with.

can I volunteer to be a penguin

I feel like the world needs to know the context of the edinburgh zoo penguin parade, becausr I’ve been going there my entire life and I only found out about this the other year.

So a while back (I can’t remember exactly when but I think it was some time around the 40s/50s), a bunch of penguins escaped. A keeper left the gate open so a bunch of penguins just… followed them. And the people loved it. Look at these adorable birds outside their cage just following that guy around! So they get all the penguins back inside and realise that none of them really ran off, they just followed the keeper and went back inside and crowd thought it was amazing, so why not make it a regular thing? Get enough people there that if one of them goes to make a run for it (which at least one has in the past), they can’t get past the people, and let the ones who want outside have a little wander. So every day, they get a crowd, they open the gate, and whatever penguins want to get out can go, waddle about, squawk at people, and then hop back inside.

Also, one of those penguins is Brigadier Sir Nils Olaf III, Colonel-in-cheif of the Norwegian King’s Guard. This isn’t really related to the parade at all, I just love the fact that there’s a penguin in the Norwegian army

Carry on …

I love everything about this post.

And this is a video from Sir Nils Olav III was promoted to Brigadier in 2016:

Nils Olav is the background on my work computer. Because I love penguins and I’m Scottish

Most important lesson I learned in the past year is, don’t let anyone turn you cruel. No matter how badly you wanna give the world a taste of its own bitter medicine. It’s never worth losing yourself over.

Anonymous asked:

what paper do you use/recommend for notes?

the arc notebook by staples, it’s sooo good and you can take the pages out of the book and put them back in and the paper is really good quality!

FIRST POST!

Welcome to the first post on Diary of A Psychology Student! Here I am 2 weeks after starting this account actually making my first post. I was so unsure of what to write, would anyone read? will anyone actually be interested in the content I produce? But anyway here we are post number 1 (hopefully one of many).

I’m about to go into my third year at university studying Psychology, although I’m still unsure of what I would like to do after graduation (I really should decide soon). So here I’m going to be posting my study tips, my experience at university (including my experience of writing my dissertation), general life experiences and spreads from my Bullet Journal.

While we’re here I thought I’d share an early spread from my Bullet Journal, my BIRTHDAYS page, such an easy page to create and it means I can keep track of ALL the birthdays I need to, I won't ever forget one again!
