Hurricane Florence

It’s been a quiet season for the East coast, but that ends this week.  Florence is set to it the East coast Thursday-ish.  If you are in the potential path, it’s best to start preparing now.

Things to do:

  • Make an evac plan.  The quicker you can get out the better.  (Last year when we had to evac we had to work to find a hotel, because of leaving last minute due to my husband’s job.  Plan as far ahead as you can.)
  • Pull out money.  If the power goes out, ATM and card machines won’t work.  Many places don’t have the old style ways of taking credit cards anymore.
  • Fill up your cars.  Even pick up an extra gas can of gas.  (Only do this with a proper gas can.  Be smart in your prep!)
  • Go shopping now.  Bottled water, perishable food, batteries, candles.
  • Make sure that you have a good supply of your meds, in case you can’t get them filled for the next week to two weeks.
  • Keep your electronics charged.
  • Make sure you have important numbers in your phone.  Don’t depend on having the net, even on your phone during the storm.  (Power company, non-emergency line, ect.)
  • Remember your pets needs - stock up on their stuff, too.

Things to remember:

  • Hurricanes come in three parts - the start, the eye, and the other side.  Do not go out when the calm of the eye hits.  The storm is only half over.  If you stay, remain in your safe lodging until the storm is completely passed.  (Some areas will run curfews - keep up with these if you can.)
  • If you evacuate, do not return home until the local government clears the area.  This is for everyone’s safety.  Yes, you want to get home, but you also want to be safe.
  • If you have hurricane damage, take pictures before and after the clean up.  Keep good records of what all happened so that you can submit it to your insurance.
  • Check with NOAA Hurricane’s sight for path charts.  The closer the storm gets, the closer their updates get.

Most of all, be safe.  I know it’s nerve wracking and scary.  I’ve been through this a bit in the last decade of living in Florida and Georgia.  If you are in a low lying area, and you can get out, do so.  Better to be safe.  Check in on elderly around you, anyone that might need help as well.

It started off as rioting. But right from the beginning you knew this was different, because it was happening in small villages, market towns... and then it wasn't on TV anymore. It was on the street outside. It was coming through your windows. It was a virus, an infection. You didn't need a doctor to tell you that. It was the blood, or something in the blood. By the time they tried to evacuate the cities, it was already too late. The infection was everywhere. The army blockades were overrun, and that's when the exodus started. The day before the TV and radio stopped broadcasting, there were reports of infection in Paris and New York. You didn't hear anything more after that.

MIA  .::   ofsalvo·

mia kind of regretted reacting that way.  what a way to become a smooth operator than to sound like a pathetic needy girl.  and she wasn’t anything like that  —  the teen knew that herself.  yet,  when she caught what he said there seemed to be a trigger of sorts that only came up when she feared abandonment.  sounds pretty sad,  he didn’t know her long enough to know the extent of her past  (  and she wanted to keep it that way,  fearing the worst outcome of course.  )  but reassurance was good to hear,  a weight lifted and once relaxed she laughed through her nose.  her own head shakes and now feels a little foolish,  “  shit  …  i’m sorry.  you must think i’m the idiot.  “  eyes fall from his and they roll around quickly,  though they return on him once he mentioned her leaving him for eddie vedder.  “  right,  i’d dump you just so i can live out my groupie fantasy.  “  another laugh,  one that brings a smile to her face,  her head turns over her shoulder to look at what jackson was gesturing towards.  “  and you don’t drink too much but sure,  i could use some air,  smells like ass here anyway.  “
Image
the teen picks up her jean jacket,  one with many pins and patches all around.  then places it on her body while following him down the shoreline.  the waves crashed against the water’s edge,  for a few seconds she took off her socks and shoes to walk barefoot.  the water was a comfortable cold that wasn’t too overwhelming when it hit her feet. “  your friends are a bunch of jackasses,  “  eyes sliding to the right to look at him for a second,  a smile once again appears.  she means it in a good way,  “  but overall it was pretty rad,  thanks for inviting me by the way.  you didn’t have to.  “  not like there was an obligation,  it was just nice to get out and actually meet new people.  her hand goes to take the water bottle from him,  then takes a sip from it before handing it back.  it gave her some time to think of a little white lie because she wasn’t about to tell him how she came to town.  “  ye-up,  i’ll be here.  i’m stayin’ with some family here for a while.  “  she wants to ask why he only comes every friday but,  mia had already made a fool of herself earlier.  “  so i guess i’ll see ya’ every friday,  huh  ?  “

❛❛  You  love  us  yet  ?  ❜❜  BOYISH  smile  hangs  from  lips  as  it’s  uncertain  if  it’s  safe  to  linger.  ❛❛  They’re  you’re  favorite  kind  of  assholes  huh         ❜❜  HEAD  goes  to  turn  over  shoulder  as  he  hears  the  faint  cackling  of  laughter,  and  the  shift  in  musical  tastes.  Goes  to  sit  down  on  sand  as  he  nimbly  takes  off  shoes,  and  socks  are  safely  tucked  away  in  the  confines  of  shoe.  ❛❛  You  just  sort  of  looked  like  you    NEEDED    company  y’know  ?  Plus,  your  taste  in  music  isn’t  fucking  terrible.  ❜❜  Glancing  upwards  as  hands  go  to  roll  up  the  bottom  of  jeans,  and  Jackson  goes  to  stand.  Hands  don’t  bother  to  brush  off  sand  that  NOW  adorn  jeans,  that’s  the  thing  about  living  close  to  a  beach;  you  just  get  USED  to  it.  Heads  towards  the  waters  edge  as  water  rushes  over  toes,  and  he  goes  to  push  some  hair  behind  right  ear.  ❛❛  Yeah,  it’s  my  only  day  off            we  sort  of  all  work  at  a  garage  so?  We  take  advantage  of  havin’  one  day  off.  ❜❜  Gaze  averting  towards  ocean,  and  the  lighthouse  that’s  long  ago  been  abandoned.  Lights  from  pier  were  enough  to  warn  any  captain  of  the  dangers  of  getting  too  close.
