HEY FRIENDS I’M STILL ALIVE!!  I wish I had a great excuse for my absence but really it all just comes down to parade shifts keeping me exhausted and a strange new pattern where I actually might have a social life??  I do miss roleplaying though and I promise I will return soon!  As of right now I’m sitting in an airport waiting to fly to NYC, where I’ll be for the next week, but when I get back you can count on Christine, Erik, Raoul, and I to be around a lot more!!

In the meantime, consider my hiatus still very much a thing.

one of my favourite parts of the leroux novel is when christine notices that the child dancers have practiced so hard in the hopes of becoming ballerinas that their feet have gotten blistered so she gives them all sweets to make them feel better and to let them know someone is noticing all their hard work like christine daae is so kind to everyone she is good and pure and we don’t deserve her

and she visits the workers backstage and listens to their stories and their troubles she is the cutest person ever it should be forbidden by law to hate her

and the day after an argument with raoul (and two days after being taken to erik’s lair) she sat with raoul and let him talk about his plans for the future and his problems and joked with him to try and make him feel better instead of talking about herself and what she went through like what kind of beautiful angel

Singing Meme || Accepting! (forever tbh)

12. Leading Player: I’ll pick a song sung by a Lead in a musical.

I Miss The Mountains from Next to Normal (I would recommend turning down your volume bc the audio is very loud and I am also a very loud person orz)

In a perfect world I’d have the voice of Alice Ripley or Pia Douwes when I sing this but alas I do not!  Either way this is still one of my favorite songs to sing and it’s a go-to when I’m in the shower.

((I feel like Kay was trying so hard to make Erik Christine’s ONE TRUE LOVE that she neglected to realize people can have multiple true loves over a lifetime and that freezing Raoul out of Christine’s love does a great disservice to both characters and to all source materials. Tbh, it’s one of the reasons that (even on my Kay Erik blog) I tend to pretend the counterpoint and beyond just didn’t happen.))

Yessss exactly??  And people are capable of being in love with multiple people in different ways.  Like in Y/K’s version Christine repeatedly says that she loves both Erik and Philippe Raoul in different ways.  I definitely have to pretend the counterpoint and beyond doesn’t happen in Kay’s novel; while the novel in its entirety is beautifully written and very fun to read, I have a lot of issues with how she portrays the Main Three characters.

Her Nadir is perfect though and I love him with my entire soul.  I want her to write a whole book about Nadir and his wife, haha!

((The fact that he is a loving father to Charles despite his paternity and a loving husband to Chriatine earns him brownie points.))

Soooo many brownie points honestly.  It just makes me so sad because he was such a good husband and father-figure and tried to make his little family happy but was never able to father his own children or even make love to his wife and that she didn’t even wear his ring and the whole time he knew she loved Erik more than him... which honestly I have a lot of issues with in the first place considering that the book is supposed to be an extension of Leroux (albeit with added ALW touches).  Raoul is just such a positive presence when he’s in Kay’s novel and I love that she wrote him as being a genuinely good person but I wish she’d treated him more fairly, because a lot of the fandom treats him poorly as it is!

I’m trying to get in a Raoul-y mood (which is hardly a difficult task tbh) by reading his section in Kay’s novel but it’s really only just upsetting me because poor Raoul doesn’t deserve anything that happens to him in that book like I got 99 problems and Susan Kay’s treatment of Raoul de Chagny is all of them

Anna Karenina the Movie is killing me slowly because not only do we have Vronsky who looks like Raoul, but now we have Holliday Grainger looking like a perfectly cherubic Christine and they’re interacting and he’s kissing her hand and my gay little Leroux Trash heart is withering away because they took a Leroux cast and put them in a Tolstoy story

HELLO FRIENDS!!!

I just wanted to ~apologize~ for my absence over the last few days; not only was work kicking my ass but I also set a goal for myself in which I would finish the last 600 pages of Anna Karenina that I still needed to read.  That goal was NOT accomplished; I have around 350 pages left that I will hopefully be done with tomorrow or Monday!

Any spotty activity will be due to that and also because slowly but surely I’m bringing a Raoul blog to life and making blogs is often a very long process for me!  If we have threads going I promise those will not be dropped!  If you need to contact me for any reason feel free to ask for my k.ik or sk.ype!
