Kim’s training allowed the researchers to operate in a controlled environment with high-speed cameras and 3D CT scans that captured the precise movements of the spider’s jumps.
Kim’s jumps, researchers can apply their findings to engineering micro-robots.
One of the cool things about jumping spiders is that they aren’t throwing themselves forward with super long, muscular jumping legs like in crickets or grasshoppers. Just looking at the structure of jumping spider legs you wouldn’t guess that they are designed for huge leaps. That’s because the jump is powered by rapid changes of fluid pressure inside their legs rather than by muscles.
Yo this isn't amazing its fucking terrifying. How are you okay with spiders jumping using pressurised fluid?!
