On a more positive note, in the journal volume that my thesis was published in (there’s just under 20 articles total in it), my thesis is the second most downloaded…with 1600+ downloads. Whack that people actually read my shit lol

Ron DeSantis just kidnapped a 13-year old boy.

Earlier this evening, at around 7 PM CT U.S., Rebekah Jones (notably one of DeSantis’ biggest political enemies right now) underwent a raid on her home by state police.

Guns were pointed in the face of her 13-year old son, Jack. They arrested him under the charges of digital terrorism and “on state orders.”

They are refusing to let him go home and they are refusing to let Jones see him.

These are her screenshots recounting the incident from earlier tonight. They were taken at 10:23 PM CT U.S.

Reblog. I don’t care who you are, reblog this. We have to make sure that this doesn’t get buried – it’s already happening.

An update by her. She’s the COVID-19 whistleblower in FL. The scientist that pointed out that FL was covering the real number of cases

Just saw her original sketchpad on graph paper at MoMA again recently. Queen shit. Here’s the placard plus photos of the actual sketchpad taken by people who weren’t trying to shoot with an android phone through a vitrine. (Image ID in alt text.)

In fifth grade a boy tried to impress me by swallowing a whole tadpole live and I punched him so hard that he puked and the tadpole was fine.

I kept it in a terrarium and it became a normal 🐸 despite everything. About a year afterward (I thought) it died, so I sadly put it in a shoebox in the shed until the ground thawed enough for a proper funeral but when that day came I opened the box and the frog was fine.

This is funnier than anything I have ever said.

This post is to Easter what a Geiger counter is to radiation.

I think about my one friend in high school, who was not technically allowed to read anything that her parents didn’t approve of. There was a special exception for things required by school, but they’d go over those at home and “correct” any bad information.

She checked out 2 books a day from the school library and read voraciously on her own and returning the books to the library at the end of the day. She’d get done work early or just skip any work time in class to read her books.

Her parents were ‘old-fashioned’ too. They didn’t think their child should be reading anything they didn’t personally approve of first.

There was a reason she never told her parents she checked out books from the school library. There was a reason none of the teachers scolded her for reading or told her parents about it during parent-teacher conferences.

They were actively preventing further abuse of a vulnerable teenager under their care.

I seem to be thinking a lot of her lately with everything, everything that is happening.

- less than a month after 9/11, the algebra teacher asked the only muslim kid in school if he “believed in the terrorists”

- sociology teacher told us being gay was a sin and torture was justified even if it didn’t work

- i got docked a letter grade in horticulture for not saying the pledge of allegiance

- abstinence-only sex ed, randroid econ curriculum, blah blah blah background noise rightwing indoctrination that didn’t even rate as notable back then

public school btw
