HER | part one.

โœงโœŽ synopsis: wonwoo, a heartbroken and burnt out writer nearing the end of his math degree, wants nothing to do with the seemingly perfect, intimidating girl who has everyone under her thumb. you. unfortunately, his literary talent has got him shoved him between a rock and a hard place when you want to write a book and require his expertise. you two are the furthest from compatible. wonwoo canโ€™t see this going well. at all.

pairing: wonwoo x fem!reader word count: 23.5k genres/tropes: writer!wonwoo, university!au, plug!vernon + boyfriend!mingyu as prominent side characters, SLOWBURN (i am not fucking around this is my slowest burn yet), relationship drama, soul searching, strong angst/hurt (iโ€™m coming for the jugular), comfort, romance, smut, a smoothie of every emotion on earth.

(!) warnings: drug use (weed, coke, ecstasy), wonwoo has anxiety + anxiety attacks + fairly dark thoughts, prescribed medication, gambling, intense language, infidelity, throwing up.

โœงโœŽ a/n: just some quick things i want to make apparent!

  • the fic is told from wonwooโ€™s pov, not the readerโ€™s!
  • all major timeline events are organized through chronological dates
  • potentially triggering scenes within the fic are NOT MARKED in advance
  • the content is already quite mature, so pls heed the warnings!
  • bolded and italicized text implies characters are conversing in korean, tho it doesnโ€™t happen often!
  • the fic in its entirety is 140k, so it has been split into 6 parts

everyone's patience and understanding has been endlessly appreciated! you have no idea ;_; i give you all shining stars ๐ŸŒŸ

โ‡ข part two | part three | part four | part five | part six โ‡ข soundtrack for those curious! โ‡ข read at ur own pace! :)

excuse my audacity here but isn't it easier to write something for an old series you have recently finish than leaving it for later? by the time you write the epilogue you might lose interest or motivation. I'm just curious, cause if you're onto a new project it must mean you left her for a finished project before anyone gave you the idea to write a final piece.

lolz it's okay, i don't mind the question <3

the reason i didn't immediately jump into writing the epilogue was bc i simply wanted a break from the series. i had spent so much time proofreading, refining, and rewriting certain scenes that i wasn't in the headspace to push myself further. i never force myself to write bc this is a hobby i deeply enjoy, and by stripping away my choice to do it, i'm removing part of the leisure and fun!

also, taking time away from the series lets me work up ideas. i have more time to think abt what i would like to write. even though i am prioritizing my other fic at the moment, it doesn't mean i never think abt HER and what the epilogue should entail.

and i wouldn't worry abt me losing interest or passion in writing the epilogue. the reason i personally lose passion in a story is bc i failed to plan it well enough, so i get in too deep, it's just too messy, and i can't put a bow on it. but HER is a finished and fully realized work where i know and am comfortable with my characters. it makes returning to the epilogue easier.

hahshha wow now we have to wait for your next fic, the her epilogue and wonwoo. life is hard when you're a wonwooridul and a fic lover. the coping is gonna be hard.

well the good thing abt the epilogue is that it won't be as long as the og story ๐Ÿคฃ so it won't take me two freakin years to write it!

WAIT YOURE SO REAL FOR THAT :โ€™) iโ€™m suchhhh a picky reader so like even the slightest thing will turn me off from reading it honestly gets really annoying. but i definitely share your senty menty about the trope thing bc if itโ€™s such a minor detail to the plot WHY INCLUDE IT IN THE DESC IN THE FIRST PLACE grrrrโ€ฆ but also i can definitely see if someone thinks itโ€™s gonna be important to the plot or at least semi relevant and then they just get off of their creative train at a different stop because TRUST thatโ€™s been me many many times but alsoโ€ฆ i feel like a lot of people think their fic has to have a โ€œthingโ€ to make it unique which is not always the case!!!!!! guys listen up: the โ€œthingโ€ is the writing itself i promise :3

sorry for the run on marathon sentence i guess the serial complainer in me was awakenedโ€ฆ

right? like do not play with my expectations! :(

i also kind of notice that trend with smut, too. i'm not a huge smut reader bc i neeeeed it to be sandwiched by plot or else it doesn't rly hit for me. but sometimes i get curious and i'm like what the hey, let me see what's out there. and then the desc says for instance "breast play" and the "play" is for like 2-3 sentences ๐Ÿ˜ญ DO NOT LIE TO ME!!

like i will not list something as a genre or trope unless it's prominent in the story. and YES i can do the same, too. sometimes i put in a detail thinking it will come back later for a significant purpose but then i get sidetracked. that's natural and you can play around it when you're editing. so i totally understand.

for me personally..... i just don't like being misled.... don't tell me i'm getting mashed potatoes and then it's turnips.... don't tell me i'm getting lemonade and then it's just lemons in water.... don't tell me i'm getting a piece of cake and there is nothing but a crumb on the plate...

can i say smth...

how do you choose the names for your side characters? there was a princess, one adrian cutlery? like wow.

uhh wow that's an interesting question, i haven't actually thought about it much ๐Ÿ˜ญ i think it depends on how relevant the side character is to the story. if they are quite central to the plot i typically think about their name more as opposed to if they are just passing by in a scene or two.

adrian's persona was actually based off a guy i knew in high school who was a big skater. he wore parachute pants with a shoelace belt and like beat up vans and every time i saw him he had his skateboard. but he was very easygoing, class clown kinda vibes.

i gave princess her name bc it sounds luxurious, opulent, perhaps you would imagine that person to act prissy. i think princess suits the clique that her is friends with - rich girls from rich families whose parents are all in connect - but she's not prissy at all! so i liked the contrast of giving her a fancy name without the spoiled personality.

and then for instance bells is another friend of that group. i think bells is a rly soft, pretty-sounding name. but it also relates to the fact that bells is always butting into conversations, she's a bit squealy, loud, chiming in unnecessarily. so i liked that name for her character.

okay choco now you have to spill that tea because I'm a directioner and a naruto fan and you wrote fics for those fandoms?????????????? my larry and sasusaku heart is so delighted to hear that, tell me more if you don't shy away from it.

wiurfweoiufg oKAY I SHOULD SPECIFY - I DID NOT WRITE THE FICS, I READ THEM ๐Ÿ˜ญ but i can still share the links!

komorebi by saltedpotato (naruto x sasuke fic)

something good by kinomiakai (naruto x sasuke fic)

okay OMG AND CAN I JUST SAY... flightless bird is genuinely one of the best fanfics i have ever read in my gee dee life. it is like truly phenomenal, i was obsessed with reading it last summer. i was crushing multiple chapters a day ๐Ÿ˜ญ it's BEAUTIFULLY WRITTEN, OKAY? like it's about ballet, so it's very ballet terminology heavy, but goddd it was beautiful to read, i cannot express it enough!!

it definitely has serious subjects so if you read it, take heed of the author's warnings! honestly, i could sit here all day singing praises about flightless bird but the best thing you can do is read it ๐Ÿคฃ

One thing about your fics is I hate their endings because you build the story so well it's so hard to let it go. I read honey boy the other day and it crushed me (and I'm not even a mingyu biased) and now it's been 3 days since I finished her and I'm still recuperating. I'm a wonwoo girl till the end and oh dear stop it I can't even talk about that ending it's like my life span reached its end and now I'm dead. bring me back to life when the epilogue is out fam, peeeaaaceee.

u scared meโ€ฆ i thought i was abt get hate mail ๐Ÿ˜ญ ahhajash i understand the feeling, i get that way about books, movies, and tv shows right near the end ๐Ÿ˜ก it makes me not want to finish them so i can prolong the fantasy ๐Ÿฅน

itโ€™s my reading week right now so iโ€™m mostly relaxing and doing some homework here and there ๐Ÿค“ but trust me i do have plans for the epilogue although itโ€™s still a while away!

you're gonna laugh but every time I read a fic and it's really long I make the comparison with 'HER' because if it's around 20k I go "okay this is like reading a chapter of 'HER', and when the fic is super long I'm like "okay my record is still 'HER' so no worries.(my record is 166k but it's unfinished).

I'm not over 'HER' and I don't think I'll ever be.

omg hahahhh i love that! ๐Ÿคฃ i actually use that fic a measuring stick inadvertently for the new one iโ€™m writing to help me grasp how long it might be ๐Ÿค”
