I NEVER get tired of this video. It would be fantastic if the bird was just flying near him, but the fact it feels safe and comfortable enough to land ON his paraglider, isn't startled when he pets it, and is NIBBLING HIS SHOES... blessed moment, absolutely fabulous, 10/10 gold stars.

They're grooming each other.

This is called parahawking! That vulture is tame -- it’s wearing jesses (a leather tie around the leg that a falconer will use to hold a bird when it’s on the glove). In fact that vulture is employed. Parahawking birds seek out thermals the same way they would naturally, allowing paragliders to follow them in the process.

Vultures are often used for parahawking both because of their attraction to thermals, and because vultures, as scavengers, are comparatively gentler and more sociable than birds of prey!

We need to go back to using sailing ships full time like immediately. Yes it would take longer to get places but the Aesthetic is unmatched

I’m convinced if ppl on this site knew how crappy gifs look before you color them properly, they would appreciate editors more

for context reasons, this is how a gif I used in a recent gifset looks like without any adjustments/coloring whatsoever:

I truly don’t think people realize how dingy and dark most movies and tv shows actually are so they can’t appreciate the work and skill it takes to make gifs look the way your brain “remembers” it looking.

Another before and after example:

This gif needed 6 different adjustment layers, not including the sharpening process, which is its own separate challenge. The blue window was also changed to green to keep the palette more consistent and to reduce the range of colors needed, because a wider range of colors generally results in worse gif quality since gifs only support a max of 256 (compared to the millions your monitor can display).

I always see tags and captions for .GIFs with worlds like “edit” and “my edit” and wondered what edits were even done. Now I know!

While I have a migraine on Christmas Eve let’s talk about other aspects of migraines besides the pain that comes in waves because for me and many others the pain isn’t the worst symptom of migraines.

Migraines may include:

A migraine isn’t just a headache. It’s a neurological disease. Migraine meds often affect your nervous system and pain meds don’t usually relieve symptoms besides the pain. So the next time a loved one or coworker has a migraine, remember. Not only are they in pain, their brain has become soup! In fact, if someone gets migraines frequently enough they can legally be categorized as having a disability. A couple members of my family literally can’t work because their migraines are so frequent and they live off of disability payments. Something worth remembering.
