Closing out 2015, Looking to 2016

As many of you have likely noticed I havent been posting nearly as much here this year. Ive been fortunate to have additional writing opportunities that allow me to share hunting in a positive light to larger audiences . Ive also tried my hand at writing about cars and trucks as Ive been fortunate enough to weasel my way into the good graces of some auto manufacturers. The auto stuff is a lot of fun and Chad Kirchner who owns both of the sites is one of the best folks Ive met in that industry, so that makes it even more fun. As great outdoors website far as hunting went for 2015, I hardly got out at all. If you are lookingThe most shooting I did was walking the local target course with my son who really came to enjoy shooting with me. Hes had a Misison bow for some time but hasnt been quite strong enough to shoot it. I think this spring well be able to start shooting the course together. If not, Im certain hell be happy to tag along as he often was the one to prompt our trips to the course. He likes being my personal rangefinder. Looking back I literally only hunted a day and a half all year. Its not for lack of desire, but lack of time, money and access. Starting a new job meant zero vacation time to take my return trip to South Dakota for Mule Deer. Family life and the finance issues that go along with owning a house in another state that sat on the market for almost a year didnt help my hunting budget as you can imagine. So as far as hunting, something thats very important to me, 2015 was a dismal year. But out of the lack of hunting I spent a lot more time with my family and that was great! While 2015 was in many accounts a less than stellar year, there was quite a bit of good in it as well. My wife and I celebrated our 10th Wedding Anniversary with a road trip through South Dakota. Doesnt sound too amazing but South Dakota has quickly become one of my favorite places and we had a great time just doing whatever we wanted for a week without much of a schedule or kids to attend to. It helps that the badlands and black hills offer some of the best scenery. My wife and I also launched a clothing company that wed been working on for about a year prior to launching and its been a great opportunity to build something together. So whats in store for 2016? I dont know yet. I plan to keep plugging along and writing, but also writing more for this website and it will likely just be more general or personal content than solely hunting content. Ive been working on a book concept for a couple of months and have the interest of a couple of publishers so Id like to dedicate as much time to completing that as possible. Ill be kicking off the year with a trip to the Detroit Auto Show with Ford again this year, however I wont be attending ATA. So youll hunting binocular reviews see some auto content filter out over the next couple of months. I hope to make outdoor website it to South Dakota for Mule Deer in the fall and am planning a turkey hunt for Merriams with my Dad for the spring. If those two things come to fruition, 2016 will quite a success! I also want to make a point to just get outdoors more. More hiking, camping and fly fishing.
