ย  ย  ย  ย  โ›ย yikes. makes my childhood sound like a total picnic. sure, we had wolves tโ€™ contend with evโ€™ry night, and anโ€™ the odd bear evโ€™ry once in a while, but at least there were no rats. โœย matty gave an amused smirk, blue eyes twinkling in what little light her phone gave off. he could do this FOREVER with her, he thought to himself. their little back-and-forth.
ย  ย  ย  ย as the conversation turned sombre, so did his expression. he listened without interruption as ruby let out a few musings. it occurred to him that this might be the very first time he had ever heard her mention her family in earnest, and not simply as the punchline to a joke. it was like theyโ€™d crossed some invisible line in their relationship, or maybe there was just something about this place that enticed the redhead to discuss things she normally wouldnโ€™t.
image
ย  ย  ย  ย and this, he supposed, might be where heโ€™d be expected to share a story of his own upbringing. cradled in the lap of luxury, the vos parents had spoiled all three of them ( equally, in mattyโ€™s eyes at least ), and that included regular trips to the movies, followed by a visit to the ice creamery on the opposite side of the road. their cinema had been much larger than this, akin more to the stadium ruby had just mentioned ( not without a little disdain in her voice, heโ€™d noted ). he remembered seeing all manner of movies with his family, and then, when heโ€™d grown into a teenager, going for the occasional midnight showings of cult movie classics - pulp fiction, the matrix, fight club. but the words with which to describe these memories proved hard to find - they caught in his throat, refused to be let out.
ย  ย  ย  ย in the silence of the theatre, his footfalls on the old carpeting seemed as loud as a giantโ€™s. they took him up to the back corner, where matty took up the pretence of studying the door to the projection room, though a simple twist of the knob instantly told him that it wouldnโ€™t open. the blonde simply stood there, awash in memories, which meant that he, too, missed the arrival of a new set of footsteps just outside. the voice that came next, however, rang clear as day.
ย  ย  ย  ย  โ› oi! whoโ€™s there?! youโ€™re not supposed to be in here!โ€
ย  ย  ย  ย mattyโ€™s eyes immediately widened, and he sent a look of confusion over to where ruby stood. โ›ย what do we do? โœย while heโ€™d attempted to keep his voice low, the footsteps only grew louder. whoever it was, he was seconds away from opening the door and catching them. in that split second, matty decided on a course of action.ย
ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย ย RUN.ย
ย  ย  ย ย he leapt down the steps in twos and threes and over to ruby. taking her hand in his, he pulled her over to the other door in the room, which read,ย โ› EMERGENCY EXITย โœ.

Quiet and perfectly still, that was all the more that Ruby would dive into on her past. Allowing the silence to linger, that oddly enough, wasnโ€™t one riddled with discomfort. She felt calm as her eyes watched his shadows in the dim light. Moments of calm never seemed to last long here, but sheโ€™d take them while she could. Moments in which things could feel normalย if she allowed them to. Then again, what wasย normal anymore??ย

Lately, it seemed to be the moments like this, the small slices of content, the butterflies that had her both in doubt and excitement. A prospect of something new, yet confused only per her own insecurities, not wishing for repeats of the past. Dropping the smallest of hints along the way for him to pick up, frightened to leave more -- yet eager as her flawed patience left a nag in her mind. Theย โ€˜what if Is . . .

The sound of the unfamiliar voice catching her off guard, the redhead gasped. Pushing herself away from the wall, she turned with bouncing locks towards the sound of the noise, a flashlight guiding its path.ย โ€œWhy are you asking me? This is the first time Iโ€™ve ever seen anyone else in here!โ€ But leave it to her luck that itโ€™d be THIS particular go around. Panicked, though she DID have a key, was that enough excuse to not be charged with something mindless? It was perhaps best to notย stick around and find out.

ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  Dragged quickly behind Mattyโ€™s lead, she was unable to help but laugh along the way as she heard the man call out behind them, demands that they STOP. The blaring alarm must have been the onlyย thing left working in the building for it began to blare out into the night. Clutching tightly onto his hand, as they hurried into the night in a haste, with a glance back over her shoulder Ruby spotted the flashlightโ€™s glow still in pursuit.

A harsh tug on Mattyโ€™s hand, Ruby tugged him along with her nearly running right past the stairs down into the underground. Careful not to lose her footing as she rushed them down the stairs -- a train spotted along the platform, her pace quickened still until theyโ€™d made it inside, safety found ( at least momentarily ) in the confines of the train car. Watching from the window as the door sealed shut, she rose her middle finger up smugly, keeping herself steady against Mattyโ€™s form.ย

Someone having caught the train just before it could leave the station completely, Ruby looked between both Matty and their pursuer as the doors opened up on the train car beside theirs, the officer hopping on.ย โ€œWhat do we do now??โ€ she asked, half in worry, half bemused as the man neared in on the door to the car they were in.

One could have even said that there was sort of dependence from Lydiaโ€™s side, but it was explainableโ€”and even expected, really. The second her family and friends back in America heard theย โ€˜newsโ€™ their turned on her, and all the others after that were temporary and the connection was shallow, Lydia getting easily pushed out if anything. So of course, of course she would be worried, some part of her ridden with paranoia and hidden insecurity, that she would eventually be replaced, just like that. But, she said nothing, only smiled joining the otherโ€™s tease, although the curl in her lips was a little too sad to be convincing. The blonde swiftly turned her attention away from the topic and pressed pink lips together in thought.ย
โ€œRomania doesnโ€™t have coincidences like that,โ€ she breathed, brows furrowing in a matter of seconds. โ€œDoesnโ€™t mean they just gonna, you know, kill you on sight, itโ€™s justโ€”they legit do it for money.โ€ She took a good pause after Rubyโ€™s question, list of people going in her head up and down as the inquiry couldnโ€™t be random. Not with the redhead next to her.ย โ€œ..Yeah, no. They donโ€™t. Itโ€™s like, they are family meet syndicate or some crap. Very stubborn, closed off, constantly fight with Famine folk. Which is probably kinda funny knowing itโ€™s likeโ€”well, I donโ€™t wanna say it because it sounds harshย and mean and honestly, they canโ€™t ALL be like thisโ€”but knuckleheads versus people who make millions โ€” maybe billions in a day. Itโ€™s like..You know what Iโ€™m saying? Iโ€™m pretty sure they would fight Pestilence too, but I literally have no fight moves and I donโ€™t know if any of us do? Yeah.โ€ Another pause as she basically squirmed in her seat, itching to pose a single question herself. โ€œ..Why? You know someone? I mean, you can tell me, itโ€™s not like I will do anything. Iโ€™m just curious.โ€
image
. . you donโ€™t think that he was only with me because of something to do with his house, right?โ€ ย A slew of insecurities came crashing down on her unexpectedly, like waves crashing into shore. It wasnโ€™t as if she should have minded at all, but she did. She did in a manner which caused a twist in her stomach, sickness to think,ย dramatically so,ย that what if everything sheโ€™d had, everything sheโ€™d stayed behind in Romania for . . . what if it was ALL a farce. Granted, sheโ€™d been the one to walk out on him, it hit her like a freight train -- unexpected. In the wake of everything she seemed to now be involved with, she couldnโ€™t imagine why sheโ€™d be dragged for more sinister reasons.

And naturally, there was such similar case with the other asked of.ย โ€œI mean, I know of a few people actually.โ€ she admitted, though speaking of one in particular.ย โ€œDid you know that Matty was involved with all of this?? I probably . . . shouldnโ€™t be telling you this, but . . . I knew about this stuff -- before you brought it up. Not in any sort of detail, but . . . he told me about the houses, that they exist. I canโ€™t help but wonder, not just about him, but any of them . . . what they do when theyโ€™re involved. I STAYED here for Daniel. I stayed here and he turned out to be something entirely different than I thought he was. What if the others are too? I canโ€™t help but wonder what if thereโ€™s a side of Matty that I donโ€™t know about? Like, what happens when I see something Iโ€™m not supposedย to see . . . where any of these people are concerned.โ€

ย  ย  ย  ย  ย both brows arched, a slow smirk spread over his face as it became clear that ruby intended on keeping the decided destination a secret, for now. โ› alright, lead the way, babe. i trust yโ€™. โœย matty didnโ€™t miss the mischievous light that entered rubyโ€™s eye as they exited the bar, which only got him to wondering more about where they were going. he took the bottle obligingly, then, noticing her shivers, wrapped an arm around her waist so that they were walking pressed side-to-side.
ย  ย  ย  ย ย matty was surprised when ruby stopped only two alleyways away from foxes. peering through the darkness yielded few clues as to the place she taken him - the building looked utterly abandoned, old posters peeling off of the walls the only signs it had ever been used at all. โ› what is this placeโ€ฆ a movie theatre? โœย not exactly the romantic hideaway he had been envisioning, but hey, if it worked for her.
ย  ย  ย  ย ย it was a welcome relief from the cold, at least, and matty hurried quickly through the door. the cinema didnโ€™t look much better on the inside, with a thick layer of dust covering everything visible in the gloom. teasingly, he commented, โ›ย i gotta say, rubes, kinda leaninโ€™ towards agreeinโ€™ with the other guy, here. โœย the feeling of her hand slipping into his brought a wide grin to his face, though, and he suddenly found that he didnโ€™t have much else to complain about.
ย  ย  ย  ย ย it was clear ruby had been here many times before, with the way she navigated the place confidently. โ› come here a lot, do ya? โœย it seemed an odd place for the redhead to frequent, a run-down cinema that hadnโ€™t seen a living audience in years - but then again, maybe not. rubyโ€™s nostalgiaย for times long past came across in everything she did and loved, why wouldnโ€™t she enjoy visiting a place like this? and with that thought, matty began to appreciate the charm that the place held, just a little bit more.
ย  ย  ย  ย ย by now, mattyโ€™s eyes had adjusted, and after ruby let go of his hand he slowed down to admire the main room, letting out a low whistle. the disembodied chuckle that resonated around the room might have been eerie had it come from anyone else, but from ruby it only brought a smile to his face. he wandered down the aisle, hand brushing over broken seats. โ›ย okay, iโ€™ll admit itโ€™s growinโ€™ on me. โ€˜s pretty cool. but what do yโ€™ mean, it โ€œreminds you of homeโ€? โ€˜m pretty ย sure yโ€™ve never mentioned livinโ€™ in a condemned building, or yโ€™ wouldโ€™ve totally won all our contests.ย โœ
image
There was a tinge of nerves Ruby was met with once theyโ€™d stepped inside. Sheโ€™d never taken anyone here before, and why would she have?? She never had a reason, but whatever it was, it seemed right. Opening up, in a sense, her way of not so overtly showing him how she felt without realization hitting so harshly upon her. Although silly to anyone else, apparently even a little to Matty himself, the building rang important.

ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย โ€œI probably shouldโ€™ve opened with that then if thatโ€™s the case. In the winter months . . . we all holed up in the projection booth for warmth -- which was fine, until the rats got hungry in the middle of the night. Theyโ€™d eat you alive if you werenโ€™t careful, could never fall asleep too deeply.โ€ she replied in jest, following him with the light of her phone as he wandered around the room, still until she began to speak more genuinely.

. . minus the cold, of course . . . Iโ€™m still in Los Angeles. Which -- Iโ€™m not even sure Iโ€™d really consider home at this point. I havenโ€™t been sure where HOME is in awhile, but itโ€™s familiar. I always liked going to the theatre to get lost in something unattainable.โ€ Wandering herself at this point, her digits traced along the dusty arm rests.ย โ€œThey donโ€™t even really make places like this anymore. Who wants to go to a smelly old movie house when the stadiumโ€™s right down the street?โ€

image

ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย ย โ€œMy dad would take me once a month for โ€˜throwback Thursdayโ€™ย -- probably because it was the only thing to get me to shut up about going into the city. Although, mind you . . . I never really did shut up about it.โ€ Perhaps the first time sheโ€™d reallyย spoken about her family to him, of her truths, there was both nostalgia and bitterness in her tone. At times, she wished that sheโ€™d done things differently, though she was far too stubborn to admit as much. Not that she saw where it mattered now anyhow.

ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย โ€œOf course, who couldย shut up with rats biting at your toes all night.โ€ Lifting right back up, her eyes glanced his way as she wandered right past, letting him explore on his own what she felt she knew every inch of as she leaned with her back against the theatreโ€™s back wall, curious if heโ€™d deemed her completely mad at this point, as her thoughts wandered, she hadnโ€™t heard the third set of footsteps in the ticket room just beyond.ย โ€œOne of these days Iโ€™ll figure out how to work the projector, seem a little less crazy.โ€

โ€œRubes, darling, Iโ€™ve been one of place-smashing buffoons before. No matter how much you think you know, nothing beats rough practice.โ€ The ugly carved out scar heated up on his forearm with that thought, and he cleared his throat before moving away.ย โ€œThey either want me to leave or justโ€”hell I know, get scared?โ€ It wasnโ€™t a question posed to Ruby, only a thought said loudly as his eyes scanned the mess. Instead, the redhead was one to be scared as he stood there, not knowing how to comfort her.ย โ€œYouโ€™re gonna feed my cats tho, right? If anything happens, you get my cats, Faraday. All three; Mazikeen, Felix and Arsene. Ruby could feel it in her bones, that she was starting to grow emotional. It wasnโ€™t necessarily her place, not her business, but she didnโ€™t care. Theo had shown her kindness when she really didnโ€™t have any place else to go. He was one of the few sheโ€™d grown to care about -- not wishing to see any harm come his way. She hated this, she hated fearing for her friends lives day in and day out. Life in Bucharest was never SUPPOSED to be this way. Keeping quiet about her concern sans for the laughter as he tried to lighten the mood, it was likely that her expression gave it all away. Wiping at misted over eyes, she nudged him back before wrapping her arms around him in a hug, holding onto the embrace for a moment before playfully shoving him away. โ€œHow could you even think Iโ€™d just letย your cats die?โ€ she scowled in a similar manner,ย โ€œNow, weโ€™ve got a bar to clean up.โ€

Evie would like for the records to state that she doesnโ€™t NORMALLY skin her victims. It just so happened that THIS one in particular was well-deserving of it. He was a renown serial killer, took advantage of more women than the Mae could COUNT, and it just so happened that heโ€™d frequented her brothel, PAID for her services.ย She loathed men like him, the SCUM of the earth, those who dig their fleshy fingers into the carcass of anotherโ€™s broken youth. So when sheโ€™d gotten word that he would be in Bucharest for business, The Beast decided to pay the man a little visit. Sheโ€™d heard of honour amongst thieves, sure, but never of honour amongst KILLERS.ย
ย  ย ย  ย  ย ย  ย  ย ย  ย  ย ย  ย  ย ย Sheโ€™d say it was nothing personal, but. In this case, it WAS.
The proceeding ADRENALINE, however, was more of a ย  ย high ย ย  than sheโ€™d experienced in quite some time. Big men like him bled more than the average, it POOLED around her, stained porcelain skin in a crimson hue as she continued shaving down the manโ€™s arm with her blade. Layer after layer.ย The skin flitted down to the pavement of the back alleyway, enveloping her, SOAKING in the manโ€™s own blood. Sheโ€™d kept him alive long enough for him to SUFFER, grunts of displeasure muffled by the gag sheโ€™d twisted and turned around his mouth and neck. Eventually, she figured, heโ€™d gone into shock from the pain and trauma, his pulse, somewhere along the line, had ceased its throbbing, and sheโ€™d simply shrugged and continued working. THIS was a long time coming.
ย  ย ย  ย  ย ย  ย  ย ย What she hadnโ€™t anticipated was somebody DISRUPTING her, and, if she had any fear in her body, she wouldโ€™ve frozen like a deer in headlights at the overwhelming BLINDNESS of some cellphoneโ€™s flashlight, but she DIDNโ€™T. Instead, she treated it as a spotlight, decided there was no better time than the present to put on a little SHOW, and dissolved into a fit ofย  ย  ย  ย H ย Y ย  STย  E R ย I ย A, ย ย  maniacal laughter resonating through the entire alley. A sharp-toothed grin was interrupted only by the gesture of her hands cupping the blood and POURING it down her face, head cocked as the scarlet flowed freely down her chin, forked tongue making a point of lapping up the excess.ย
ย  ย ย  ย  ย ย  ย  ย  ย ย  ย  ย ย  ย  ย ย  ย  ย โ›ย  ย  ย ย ย ย Hย Aย Hย Aย Hย Aย Hย A ย ! ย  ย  W h a t ย  ย  do ย ย weย  ย have ย  H E R E ย ? ! ย  ย  ย โœ
She stood, swinging her Mongolian knife about her fingertips, watching as the light of the otherโ€™s phone refracted against its lethal edges.ย
ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย โ› ย  ย  ย  ย  ย Now, now, donโ€™t ย  R U N ย  away from me ย ! ย  Weโ€™re FRIENDS now, RIGHT, buddyย  ? ย  And friends donโ€™t TELL. Otherwiseโ€ฆ ย  ย Weeeeell. ย You SAW what happened to my little ย  ย ย F R I E N D ย  ย hereโ€ฆ ย  ย โœ

It was like a scene from a movie, not something that one simply HAPPENED upon. Except, in this case, Ruby had managed just that. Throughout her entire life, sheโ€™d wanted nothing more -- for her life to play out like one depicted on the big screen, but this wasnโ€™t exactlyย what sheโ€™d had in mind.

The blood spill that she knew would haunt her thoughts, her dreams, long after she left this behind. Would she even be ABLE to leave it all behind? Of course, her plan had been to run for it, to get herself out and away from the situation, but that shrillness of laughter sent chills down her spine in a way that it s t i l l e d the redhead. The voice might have been friendly in tone, but was anything but in actuality.

She knew a threat when one was offered, though her eyes wanted to do anything BUT look back. Sick to the very pit of her stomach, those hues tried to avert as she turned back towards the woman, who was by all accountsย CRITICALLY insane. What other excuse could there have been for this? She knew there were plenty of sick, depraved individuals out there, but knowing and seeing were two very different things.

ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  โ€œI wouldnโ€™t say this makes us friends, Iโ€™m afraid.โ€ she replied, laughing nervously. The phone still at her side, she flipped with her thumb through the screens to call for an emergency as she backed away slowly, gritting her teeth to keep her cool.ย โ€œIn f a c t, if this is the way you go about making friends, Iโ€™d be surprised if you had any.

Slow steps backward until she landed at the mouth of the alleyway, thatโ€™s when sheโ€™d bring the phone up to her ear, rounding the corner, speaking quickly, walking just as such, eyes scanning as if she might run into someone else along the otherwise emptyย streets.ย โ€œYes, uh- . . . off of Lipscani, thereโ€™s a crazy lady. For someone towering over most people, Nicolae was gifted in the art of being as small as possible. Able to cling close to a wall, to lean against a light post and blend into the metal, he had a knack for going unnoticed. On-board a train, packed to the brim, he managed to stay out of the othersโ€™ way while reading to pass the time. It was a weekday, people going anywhere and everywhere, and Nicolae found it odd, being around people who didnโ€™t live at their workplace.
As a particularly chatty group of students all left the train, a vacant spot opened up for him to sit. Despite never having been the most graceful of people, Nicolae slid down in the seat, eyes still following the lines in the book. Minutes passed as his camera eyes printed every page into his memory. The book wasnโ€™t particularly interesting, Integrated Chinese, mostly a test to see how quickly he could grasp an entirely new language. It went alright thus far.
When the train stopped, it was entirely unexpected, breaks screeching from the other side of the metal, and the passengers flung forward as if the ground had shifted beneath them. The book slipped from his grip, crashing down on the person next to him and the librarian let out a quick gasp as he reached for it. โ€œOh shit, I-Iโ€ฆ Sorry.โ€ He mumbled, before looking up at the other.
Then he saw her. HER.
ย  ย  ย  ย โ€œUm, hey.โ€ FUCK. โ€œDid it hurt? Iโ€™m sorry.โ€

ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  As if awkward wasnโ€™t AWKWARD enough. Her attention all too focused on the script in her hands that sheโ€™d not even noted whoโ€™d taken the seat beside her, Ruby bounced between him and the railing beside her as the fallen book tore the paper in her hand.ย โ€œShit.โ€ she mumbled, shaking her head, a mess of red tresses in her eyes as sheโ€™d looked up, brushing them away.

The question was, what did she do now?? It hadnโ€™t even crossed her mind yet that the train might remainย stopped, expecting it to lurch back any second now. Did she pretend not to recognize him? Did he even recognize her? There was a chance the answer was no, but judging by the look in his eye, the redhead knew better than that. Besides, HAD he forgotten, how insulting.

No big deal.โ€ she responded with a wave of her hand, a nervous laugh to follow.ย โ€œNicolae, right??โ€ her eyes winced, begging the question -- a piece from those weeks right after Daniel that she was less than proud of, in more ways than one.ย โ€œLong time no see. Whatโ€™s this, youโ€™re reading?โ€ Falling into the notion of small talk, surely the train would start back up soon.ย โ€œDecided to learn Chinese?โ€

ย  ย  ย  ย  a certain someone might have upstaged him by throwing a party in rubyโ€™s honour. but matty was, among other things, an attention-seeker, and the person whose attention he sought most often and with the greatest effort was ruby. he wasnโ€™t going to let her think he had forgotten or otherwise failed to prepare for her birthday, no chance. so maybe he was hijacking the party a little. matty had at least asked theo, whose assistance he had needed to prepare the stage, the music, et cetera et cetera. but to all else, it would be a surprise.ย
ย  ย  ย  ย ruby was perhaps wondering why he was taking so long to turn up to the party. well, sheโ€™d get her answer in just a few seconds. all of a sudden, the lights in the bar went out, to the confusion of everyone. a lone figure stood in the centre of the little stage, back turned to the audience, and one spotlight went on to shine its light on him. so maybe rubyโ€™s flair for the dramatic had rubbed off on him, or otherwise had encouraged some already-existing quality of theatricality.
ย  ย  ย  ย the blond held up a mic to his mouth, โ› โ€ฆhappy birthday rubes, โœ before the opening notes to a classic began to play.
ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย โ™ฌย โ™ชย โ› what i like about you!~ย โœ
ย  ย  ย  ย matty spun around, greeted the party attendees with a cheeky smile as a rainbow of stage lights burst into life. he was dressed to the nines in an eighties-style, pastel blue suit, complete with a pair of shades and slicked-back hair. โ› yโ€™ hold me tight!~ tell me iโ€™m the only one, wanna come over tonight, YEAH! โœ
image
ย  ย  ย  ย he proceeded into a medley of the choruses of various 80โ€ฒs hits, including the romantics, billy joel and even a little prince. singing had never been something matty could call a forte, certainly couldnโ€™t ever hope to share a stage with ruby, but hey, he was passable, and furthermore had only picked songs that stayed within his range. what he lacked in vocal range, he tried to make up for with dance,ย though even that was hardly stage-worthy. jazz-hands at inappropriate times, clumsy turns, he hammed it up as much as possible to add to the humour of the spectacle. eventually, he even made it off the stage to dance among the party-goers, the spotlight following him as it went.
ย  ย  ย  ย not something matty had ever imagined he would be doing, but this would all be worth it once he saw her face. matty searched the darkness of the crowd, looking for the familiar head of RED HAIR. he finally spotted her, grinned. approached her and took her hand as he continued to sing directly at her.ย
ย  ย  ย ย โ› sheโ€™ll see iโ€™m not so tough, just because, iโ€™m in love with anโ€ฆ โœย โ™ฉโ™ซ

Drunk, yes. But what was important was the fact that for the first time in a long time, Ruby felt GOOD about something. Letting herself walk on air for a night, of the doubts that would undoubtedly creep upon her, sheโ€™d keep them at bay. Under the haze of champagne, the glitter in the room, everything felt magical. Of course with the exception of one certain missing person.

From her table, a mess of glitter and confetti from the night, still sticky from the champagne, the laughter from her conversation faded out as the lights dimmed, HER eyes drawn to the stage for a change. The type of attention that she was so used to demanding herself . . . only demanded from the one and only Matty. The inescapable grin spread wide across her lips as her cheeks flushed red -- a combination of the attention delivered and the alcohol in her system, though primarily the former.

Two fingers between her lips to deliver a proper cat whistle before raising a palm to drop her face into it as the full nature of his 80sโ€™esque appearance was brought into light. Content to the sidelines for a change ( for now ), she shimmied from her seat, hues locked onto him as he worked through the crowd until he spotted her in the darkness, her smile stretching further. Appreciation found in each && every humorous twist

Allowing the lure of his hands to lift her out of her seat, only once heโ€™d stopped belting out notes did she tug him in closer that she could wrap her arms around his shoulders, clumsily lifting herself up into his arms.ย โ€œNot so tough at all . . .โ€ she whispered into his ear, her lips close enough to ghost over its shell.ย โ€œNot you, Matty Muyskens.

โ€ she admitted, pulling back the slightest to dote a lingered kiss onto his cheek as the smile tugged. Dragging him off to toast once more to what had been the perfect birthday.

ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย โ›ย  ย  ย  ย Ruby Iโ€™MSOSORRYABOUTTHECOUCH Iโ€™ll pay someone to clean it because I KNOW I wonโ€™t do a good job !ย  ย  ย โœ ย  ย  ย Exclaimed she, ignoring the mess for now, CHEERING as the Mรผller popped the cork and let spew an ERUPTION of champagne bubbles. It DRENCHED the vicinity, puddling at her feet, soaking into her black attire, causing the clothing to CLING to her frame. But she had no care for any of that; as Jezebel joined them in their embrace, she just hugged the two TIGHTER.
HAPPINESS these days was a RARE sentiment, but, stepping out of the group celebrations, Bex knew sheโ€™d found it in two of the most CHERISHED people in her life. So her grin was genuine, LOPSIDED, her head nodding of its own accord in cohesion with Jezebelโ€™s words. ย  ย  ย  โ› ย  ย  ย  Itโ€™s TRUE, everything sheโ€™s saying is true, Rubes !ย  ย  ย  ย โœ ย  ย  ย ย Announced The Chameleon, tossing her arms in a display of theatrics ย  ย โ€” ย  ย damn, she remembered the time she was SOBER.
And then came the giggles, so UNBEARABLY so she was forced to clasp a hand over her mouth to stifle them, lest she come across as RUDE at the birthday girlโ€™s ramblings. ย  ย  ย  โ› ย  ย  ย  Weโ€™re not fucking with you, babes. The director REALLY loved you. I mean, whatโ€™s NOT to love ย ?ย  ย  ย  ย โœ ย  ย  ย  But the Faradayโ€™s question had her arching a brow, smile turning to SMIRK knowing how much MORE enthused she would be when she found which musical theyโ€™d gotten her the main part for. ย  ย  ย  โ› ย  ย  ย  Okay, Rubes. Donโ€™t freak out, alright ย ? ย Or I mean, DO, because itโ€™s AWESOME, but ย  ย  โ€”- ย  ย  Youโ€™ve got the main part in Bonnie and Clyde !!! ย  ย  ย โœย
@queenxofxthievesโ€‹
She wasnโ€™t all that surprised that Ruby was skeptical of the news she just heard, but on the other hand why would these two ever joke like that? The contract in her hand was real, and it didnโ€™t take all that much to get her the role, most of it was her own talent; Jezebel only knew people who wouldnโ€™t have had a way of knowing about Miss Faraday if not for the brunette. Both Beckett and she had decided it would be the best gift from them they could get, as it was useful and something Ruby would possibly want, and also not an every day thing โ€” not a thing one could buy just around any corner.ย

With the announcement of the musical the Mรผller jumped and spun around with excitement still present and high up. She only wished that the redhead would join them on this, and accepted the humble offering her hand had presented.ย โ€œYouโ€™re going to be Bonnie! Can we come watch? โ€” That is, of course, if you want and going to do it. Because we would love to watch you perform in something like that.โ€ She grabbed the opened champagne now and took a good swig from it, then a couple more, licking her lips and passing it to Beckett.ย
@rubyrednightingaleโ€‹ย

How do I not freak out about this??โ€ Unexpected, but in the best of ways, this was the last way she envisioned spending her birthday. Content to spend it completely alone, wallowing in her sorrows, drinking until she passed out -- it was safe to say the day had taken a turn towards the exact oppositeย side of the spectrum.ย โ€œIโ€™m thisย close to crying -- but you know what? Iโ€™m not gonna!

For now, the doubts wouldnโ€™t cloud her mind, the glow of excitement that radiated off of her friends was CONTAGIOUS. && by god the girl deserved to celebrate something for a change of pace. As if for a moment none of the shit that clouded over their heads existed. A moment for HER. She could, she would, take it, at least for now. Something seemed to be going rightย in her life for a change, allow the champagne to help her celebrate, wash away the doubts to be dealt with another day.

ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย ย โ€œYouโ€™d both BETTER come watch. You two did this, I expect to see you both there opening night.โ€ Reaching for the bottle of champagne, Ruby all about snatched it out of Jezebelโ€™s hand before it could be passed to Beckett excitedly, taking a long sip, the bottle tilted up before she wrapped her arms around either of their shoulders.ย โ€œNow, are we gonna go out and celebrate or what?? Iโ€™d like to have a night I canโ€™t remember -- which means Iโ€™m not in charge of getting me home, the couch can wait.โ€
