It felt as if time had just stopped. No rats scurried past her. No drips of disgusting sewer water marked down the seconds that past. No outside noise could be heard. Sam nearly forgot she had to breathe. She had been so focused on the end of the sewer pipe. She was just waiting....waiting to see that awful being she dare not even call human come around the corner. He was something else.
But..... the longer she stood in the dark, dirty water, the more the pounding in her head subsided. Her heart rate began to drop. The buzzing in her ears disappeared. She came back to her senses and she was almost relaxed... for the moment. An uneasy feeling had started to come over her again. Sam began to realize just how deathly quiet the sewers had become. The feeling of not being alone radiated through her. Sam whipped around, excepting to see someone standing there but instead she was greeted by....red balloons? Several of them...just slowly making their way to her. Confusion fused with her uneasy gut. Sam stood still for a brief moment and watched the balloons before moving. She took one step back, then another. She didn’t know what the hell was going on. All she knew was that it was time to leave the sewers.
Sam turned herself around and quickly began to head back the way she came. She was walking at first but that quickly became speed walking and then a jog. Every couple of steps, Sam would glance over her shoulder to see if those red balloons were following. It was a dumb move on her part. After making her way down the fourth pipe, Sam collided into something. She nearly fell into the gross muck. A strong grip latched onto her, hands squeezing her upper arms tightly. Her heart dropped as her eyes locked with her captor. It was him and he was not at all happy. He had that look in his eyes. The one that told her things were about to get very, very ugly.
