In magic and spirituality the pentagram upwards means a natural balance, the divine forces of nature and the higher realms united and serves as a protective symbol. It's used in Wicca but also in Christianity, representing the five wounds of Christ. The upright pentagram is absolutely the light and they channeled that power of light to fight evil.
