It became common knowledge that ancient societies cared for the disabled & were more sensitive than we assumed, and people overcorrected from the grim, primitive portrayal of old into an assumption that in ancient times people were peaceful until something corrupted them. And now others are overcorrecting back in the opposite direction - no, they weren't even slightly peaceful, they were ghouls bashing in heads with rocks. When the truth is probably that they cared for their sick and disabled, and bashed in other people's heads with rocks.

Societies can have advanced, positive aspects and horrible ones. Example: all of them

I like how Romans talked about domestic spirits. They're kinda dead ancestors, kinda previous occupants, kinda local nature spirits, kinda the house itself. There's lots of different types but they all kinda blend and overlap into an amorphous class of spiritual fauna.

Like the place is haunted but the ghost is also protective of the store and he's not entirely a ghost he's also just the spiritual manifestation of the structure itself and the elves that keep stealing socks. It's like they're each organs in a larger body with their own sentience.

unfortunately even if you divorce it completely from christian rhetoric &c saint francis hagiography remains incredibly cool and also kind of hysterical

he was born as giovanni but one day his father decided to change his name to francesco because he made money selling fabrics imported from france. he grew up in a well off family joining his father's business and drinking and sucking and fucking with all the other young men in assisi. then he was sent to war on his horse. he was imprisoned. then he was gravely ill. he recovered. then he was about to go back to war but said nope actually and turned his horse around. he fell ill again. and at this point he went crazy. just kind of insane. he started throwing out his father's fabrics. he threw his money at people. he kissed lepers with tongue. he went all the way to rome just to take his clothes off and gift them to random people. his father pressed charges against him for being batshit insane but he got naked (again) during his public hearing in the town square and people kind of didn't know what to do so they just let him go. he started his order and he was being borderline heretical with his pauperism but the pope thought he was a chill guy and let him do his thing. women thought he was a chill guy and formed an order adjacent to his. he went to gubbio where he talked to and became friends with a wolf (allegedly). he went to egypt where he had a situationship with sultan al-malik al-kamil (reportedly). he asked a rock really nicely to produce water and it did (allegedly). he received stigmata but was shy and modest about it and didn't mention it to anyone. he often talked to birds and liked to be alone on top of hills and mountains. one of his contemporaries wrote that he was short and unattractive with a long hollow face and tiny black eyes but that his lifeless body was kinda handsome (?). one of his most controversial and talked about moments was him cutting santa chiara's hair short that one time

Mustarjil is an Arabic term meaning “becoming [a] man.” Although it can be used derogatorily to refer to women who are perceived as having a masculine appearance and/or mannerisms, in Iraq’s marshes, it existed as a gender identity. Within the context of the Ahwari community, Mustarjil was a common gender identity, where people assigned female at birth decide to live as a man after puberty, and this decision was generally accepted in the community. The Mustarjils were one of many similar third gender categories around the world, such as the Hijras in South Asia. [...] “One afternoon, some days after leaving Dibin, we arrived at a village on the mainland. The sheikh was away looking at his cultivations, but we were shown to his mudhif by a boy wearing a head-rope and cloak, with a dagger at his waist. He looked about fifteen and his beautiful face was made even more striking by two long braids of hair on either side. ln the past all the Madan (Ahwari) wore their hair like that, as the Bedu still did. After the boy had made us coffee and withdrawn, Amara asked, ‘Did you realize that was a mustarjil?’ I had vaguely heard of them, but had not met one before. ‘A mustarjil is born a woman’. ‘She cannot help that; but she has the heart of a man, so she lives like a man.’ ‘Do men accept her?’ ‘Certainly. We eat with her and she may sit in the mudhif. When she dies, we fire off our rifles to honour her. We never do that for a woman. In Majid’s village there is one who fought bravely in the war against Haji Sulaiman.’ ‘Do they always wear their hair plaited?’ ‘Usually they shave it off like men.’ ‘Do mustarjils ever marry?’ ‘No, they sleep with women as we do.’” Thesiger continues to narrate several other accounts of mustarjils within the same community, as well that of a “stout middle-aged woman” who wanted to remove her male organ in order to “turn into a proper woman.” Thesiger later mentions: “Afterwards I often noticed the same [person] washing dishes on the river bank with the women. Accepted by them, [she] seemed quite at home. These people were kinder to [her] than we would have been in our society.” Around that time, Britain was still living under the shadow of Victorian norms, and gender non-normative people were still stigmatized and shunned. Communities such as the Ahwaris, presented an alternative model that created space for communities like the mustarjils, despite the dominant gender binary.

churches in palestine abandoned/destroyed after the 1948 nakba:

  1. church of st. jacob, a melkite catholic church in the christian village of ma'alul. it was restored in 2010 and is currently managed by descendants of the village's original inhabitants. the rest of the village's land is owned by the jewish national fund.
  2. church of our lady, a maronite church in the village of kafr bir'im. it is the only intact remainder of the village after it was destroyed by occupation forces in 1953. since 1972, it has been maintained by descendants of the kafr bir'im villagers who were displaced within palestine.
  3. st. mary's church, a melkite catholic church in the christian village of iqrit. despite the villagers' appeals to the israeli supreme court to allow them to return, the village was destroyed by the idf in 1951. descendants of iqrit villages who were displaced within palestine today retain an outpost nearby and bury their dead in its cemetery.
  4. mari yohanna church, a maronite church in the village of al-mansura. the maronite church requested that the villagers be allowed to return but were refused. the houses in the village have been completely leveled, and the collapsed church is the only structure still standing.
  5. melkite catholic church in the village of al-bassa, to which almost all of the villagers belonged. occupying forces ordered them to bury younger people they had shot outside the church in front of them.
  6. latin catholic church in the village of beisan, whose residents were expelled. the town was resettled and named beit she'an. the building is now the headquarters of the local branch of the likud party.

also acting like judaism and islam are inherently more spiritual than xtianity, like theyre inherently more progressive than xtianity, like theyre the "good" ~moral~ religions to xtianity's "inherent evil" or that they arent forced on ppl is like, hilariously historically revisionist at best, straight up erasure and dehumanization at worst.

and im not an antitheist and im not saying judaism and islam are """bad"""" religions or that theyre inherently oppressive and again, it all comes down to the tools people use to enforce stuff like misogyny and homophobia, which religion has historically been a major one. (im a religious jew myself)

but like. if your solution to opposing antisemitism and islamophobia is to treat these complex, living religions, with many many (billions with a b in islams case) different followers and interpretations as simply "cutesy uwu spiritual and nonthreatning", youre not actually opposing antisemitism and islamophobia. like there are more options than the binary "blind hatered" and "blind romanticization historical revisionism" lmfao. youre just making it harder for jews, muslims, ex-jews and ex-muslims to talk about their experiences lol.

and like. the only way i can describe that phenomanon is 'europilled americel'

also acting like islam is a minority on a global level is hilarious. billions. with a b and an s.

this is just not true? like youre using the term ‘slavery’ when i think you mean the trans-atlantic slave trade, which was specifically about whiteness and european supremacy more than specifically xtianity. like. you do know jews and muslims owned slaves right, like historically (just off the top of my head bc i just took a course regarding it but muslim pirates in the middle ages that used to raid around the mediterranian, mainly europe, and kidnap + sell people into slavery) (like slavery is v much a part of judaism and there are ancient laws regarding it, and idk abt the americas but a lot of jews were slave owners up until the modern times). and that slavery is older than both islam and judaism. and like ‘xtianity was used to colonize’ is such bs in this context bc hellenism was used to colonize. chinese faith was used to colonize. judaism is used to colonize. quick question why do you think like a good quarter of the world is muslim. how did that come to be

and even if what you were saying is true (its not), dehumanization in the form of infantilization is.... not the answer to oppression. antisemitism and islamophobia are bad bc no one deserves to oppressed, not bc jews and muslims are inhrenetly “good” lmfao

and like how jews and muslims (and nbpoc in general) fit the white/black/indigenous american dichotonomy of the early americas is a conversation, but again, its not that simple. jews are used as a model minority to enforce racism and islamophobia, and muslims as a model minority to enforce racism and antisemitism, namely antiblackness (like from my own family's experience, tunisian gentiles were more than eager to accept nazism and nazi rule/become collaborators during the holocaust, and its def not unique to tunisia, and can b seen both in muslim countries and "non-germanic" european countries namely eastern europe)(not that either of these groups need help being racist/antisemitic/islamophobic).

and the reason i specified judaism and islam is bc ive mostly seen it done to them, n i know more abt judaism and islam and their history w oppression than i do other religions

what a stupendously Byzantine moment. feeling that it’s safe and useful to protest imperial policy, but choosing to go about it in the most expensive, unreliable, and misogynistic way possible

The only thing more Byzantine would be if they gave the parrots titles

“this is my ringneck parakeet Chloros, he is the hyperpanmegasebastobouleios and his only job is to start false flag protests so the emperor’s new police force has something to do besides drinking and extorting people all day. he gets a salary of $40,000 per annum.”

Anubis is an ancient Egyptian deity associated with mummification, the afterlife, and the protection of graves. He is often depicted as a jackal or a man with the head of a jackal. Anubis played a significant role in Egyptian mythology and religious beliefs.

In Egyptian mythology, Anubis was considered the son of Nephthys and Osiris or sometimes of Seth and Nephthys. He was closely associated with death and the process of embalming and mummification. Anubis was believed to oversee the weighing of the deceased person's heart against the feather of Ma'at, the goddess of truth and justice, in the Hall of Ma'at during the judgment of the soul. He would determine the fate of the deceased based on the outcome of this judgment. If the heart was found to be heavier than the feather, it meant the person had led an immoral life, and their heart would be devoured by Ammit, a creature with the head of a crocodile, the front body of a lion, and the rear body of a hippopotamus.

Due to his role in the afterlife, Anubis was also considered a protector of graves and cemeteries. Ancient Egyptians believed that he guarded the tombs and guided the souls of the deceased to the realm of the dead. As a result, Anubis was commonly depicted on the walls of tombs and burial sites, usually in the form of a jackal or as a human figure with a jackal head.

Anubis had a significant presence in ancient Egyptian religious practices. He was invoked during funeral ceremonies and mummification rituals to ensure the proper preservation and protection of the deceased. Anubis was also venerated as a guardian and protector of the living, with people seeking his assistance and favor in various aspects of their lives.

Thanks as always for looking! Xoxo

like you have these people who are so uncomfy when you call israel what it is, a jewish supremacist ethnostate, and it's not the palestinians' fault that it is a jewish ethnostate. then they have no qualms pouncing at the opportunity to call palestinian resistance terrorists, why are we expected to walk on eggshells while you call an indigenous population fighting for their emancipation barbaric, women raping, baby beheading savages lol

It’s not even, strictly speaking, a Jewish ethnostate— it’s an Ashkenazi ethnostate. The Mizrahi and the Ethiopian Jews get state-sponsored racism.

Even the term 'Mizrahi' was invented by the ethnostate to homogenize the different Jewish cultures of the Arab world, and to pit them against the Ashkenazi

So when racists on Tumblr kept insisting that "You can't understand the centuries of history behind terms like Ashkenazi, Sephardic, and Mizrahi and you turn them into white VS. brown racial categories, you're being antisemitic" it was all bullsh*t and just a cover up for racism based in the zionist occupation's definition of what is and isn't a white person. You'd think an entire word meaning "Easterner" to designate "Oriental Jews" would essentially disqualify Ashkenazim as Indigenous considering they think actual Arab Jews to be from the 'East' that they're in the middle of. Everything about Israel is a scrambled attempt at creating a shared history and culture out of thin air.

It's also worth noting that, while Israel loves to claim that its existence is necessary to be a safe haven for persecuted Jews, the Jewish community in Nigeria is facing systemic persecution, including regular police raids and attacks with firearms to their synagogues, and yet Israel refuses to let them into the country and claims they aren't real Jews, despite the fact that they have a history of identifying with Judaism since the 18th century and practice the religion.

When Israel says "Jewish", it really means Ashkenazi. Furthermore, it means white Ashkenazi, and only if they hold the "right" opinions. No one else can find a "safe haven" in Israel, they will only find more genocide, if they're graciously allowed to be let in at all. Denying that it's an ethnostate is just embarrassing at this point

if you don't know what antisemitism is you can't claim to be against it because it will simply live in you, you will take beliefs, language and judgment from it. everyone should know about the protocols of zion they should know about blood libel they should know about jewish deicide. these are three examples of lies about jewish people that have powerfully shaped history and perception of jews. they serve to inspire and justify the dehumanization of and hatred against jews wherever they lived for thousands of years. you have to know how antisemitism manifests today in all parts of the world and how a specific history has set that foundation. if you are ignorant of antisemitism you cannot denounce it. i recognize it is a call to work but if you want justice you'll have to put in that work and don't ask jews to do it for you there's already so much written about it.

A heads-up for any ex-Christian witches or any ex-Christians in general: this stuff about Jesus being "copied" from Horus or Christianity generally being "stolen" from paganism is pretty much all conspiracy theory and/or a gross oversimplification of actual history. If you want to learn more about Christianity's origins, I recommend Bart D. Ehrman's How Jesus Became God.

It’s called Christ Myth Theory. Unlike a lot of questionable ideas popular among ex-Christians or alternative religions, this one was never accepted by proper historians. It was always fringe. It became repopulatized in the 00’s thanks to the Zeitgeist “documentary”.

Yep. And a lot of people probably didn't catch it back then, but a lot of Zeitgeist was just The Protocols of the Learned Elders of Zion with the serial numbers filed off.

Again for those white goyische witches in the back, Lilith isn’t your cool feminist divine goddess. In traditional Ashkenazi folklore (I’m ashki so I can only speak about how it works with us, idk if it’s as much a thing in other Jewish communities), Lilith is a demon (technically one of the sheydim who aren’t exactly demons it’s complex but whatever) responsible for miscarriages, stillbirths, and infant death. Belief in demons in general is perhaps not as big in modern Judaism, but the pain of lost pregnancies and infant death is still real.

Like, even if Judaism wasn’t a closed culture (which it is, we don’t appreciate outsiders stealing and appropriating our culture like Madonna does with Kabbalah for example) you’re still picking up something feared and violent from out folklore and worshipping it. When I know for a fact your ancestors probably mocked my ancestors for believing in Lilith. Shut the fuck up
