like imagine a whumpee who was accused of being a traitor. they might be completely innocent, or were manipulated into doing all these things, but all it matters is that everyone absolutely loathes them now. treated with no respect, do they experience some kind of extra punishment, like torture? or is there someone who decides to make their life a living hell, as a personal vendetta? does the guilt consume them? the possibilities are endless

Anon, I like the way you think! Whumpees who are shunned and hated (whether justified or not) for past choices are a personal favorite of mine. When you add people actively harming them for it?? *chef kiss*

And you know what’s especially great? The whumpee starting to become consumed by the guilt. They internalize the idea that they are a bad person. That they deserve this mistreatment.

And then! Perhaps, in the future, the whumpee is rescued. They find themself with people who treat them with decency and gentleness. They have to go down a long road of learning to forgive themself for their past actions; learning that they deserve respect and care and love.

I love the scenario of a super frail, weak whumpee kept as a punching bag by a group of huge, physically strong whumpers.

Like… the hopelessness? They couldn’t fight back even if they dared to, the whumpers enjoy knowing that their little stress ball is an easy target, and they’re intentionally kept hungry and tired just to make it worse. In a scenario like that, all the whumpee can do is try to please the whumpers in the hopes they’ll go easy on them, because they know it’d only take a particularly savage punch to kill them.

oh gosh…. @whumpzone, the only thing better than this scenario is…a frail, weak (now thoroughly scarred and broken) whumpee being healed by a group of huge, physically strong caretakers.

the poor whumpee who is so traumatized by Big People that it doesn’t matter that these people are kind because the whumpee is just so. fucking. terrified.

the whumpee who flinches whenever a caretaker moves even a little bit too quickly, shuddering under even the gentlest touches, just waiting for those hands to turn cruel and violent. just…large hands stroking hair back from a sweaty forehead, rubbing a trembling back, gripping arms with a firm but tender grip to raise a groveling whumpee up from kneeling because the sweet thing shouldn’t be on the ground in their condition!

speaking of kneeling - the whumpee who is scared even when they kneel because they’re that much closer to those heavy feet and powerful legs that could thunder down upon them and just crush them so easily. they know from experience that just a single kick could crack their ribs, shatter their jaw, snap their nose - they aren’t safe on the ground.

barely able to speak if they are in a room with more than one caretaker and if they all assemble around whumpee, you know that poor thing is on the floor, curled up and bracing for impact, possibly pleading (even if they don’t think it will do any good).

large caretakers who might be gruff or quiet and their silence is as terrifying as shouting to the whumpee because the caretaker just towers and looms, like a fairytale monster.

just…large caretakers having to grapple with the trauma of a whumpee who associates size - and numbers  - with horrible pain :(((

THE BEST

theyre not even safe on the floor omg :((( no matter what they do they feel vulnerable :(

every time a caretaker is trying to heal an injury and says something about how small or badly injured they are the whumpee just whimpers because yes, they know, they won’t ever try to run they promise, they know they’re too weak to ever try to escape

OR better yet they do try to escape and naturally the caretakers catch up to them and haul them back and it breaks their heart because the whumpee is sobbing hysterically and begging for mercy and the caretakers just can’t get through to them :(

the silent gruff strong caretaker is my shit!!!!! just looming over the whumpee, staring at them, and the whumpee is sure that they’re planning out exactly how to torture them. Until finally the whumpee cracks and crawls over to the caretakers feet, offering themselves up in the hopes that they’ll just get it over with

ahhhhh!! good gosh…YES @whumpzone.

i am having explosions of whumperflies over the caretakers having to catch the poor whumpee and bring them back :((( how terrifying!!!

perhaps the whumpee initially fights for their life against the caretakers, who get all bruised and scratched up in the process (but they’re so much bigger and stronger than whumpee that in whumpee’s weakened state, it really is not challenge, they’re just being careful not to accidentally harm whumpee when trying to restrain them).

eventually the caretakers manage to subdue whumpee who goes limp, perhaps even sedated or tied up, eyes darting, looking like a wounded wild animal and perhaps that’s when they start to beg. the terror wins out over their pride and they just… surrender. knowing they are going to be *broken* for their defiance. perhaps even screaming at the caretaker’s to get it over with…

if the whumpee is feverish, half-delirious, when they try to run, their terror is even more potent because they hallucinate that they are back with the whumpers. perhaps a caretaker had to scoop whumpee into their arms to carry them back home and the whumpee curled up against the massive warm body, shaking so hard, weeping softly in between babbled pleas.

perhaps - if the whumpee isn’t completely jaded - curling their fingers in the shirt of the caretaker holding them because perhaps this is a caretaker that whumpee has warmed too and who they pray might offer them shelter, some mercy. offering up soft, tremulous, barely-

perhaps the whumpee took advantage of the connection between themself and this particular caretaker in order to escape and now the whumpee is terrified of revenge, that this caretaker wants the whumpee all to themselves to teach whumpee a lesson…

also!!! with gruff caretakers,,,what happens if the whumpee fucks up? what if they break something, a bowl or cup slipping from the whumpee’s weak grasp and shattering on the floor? how will the gruff caretaker handle it?

also….we didn’t discuss…the non-con possibilities… the small fragile whumpee…terrified of huge caretakers….and possibly offering themself up? *eyes*

my language… it’s being spoken…

knowing they are going to be *broken* for their defiance.

Oh my GOD. this line alone gave me whumperflies. The whumpee begging for it to be over quickly, knowing deep down that their caretakers whumpers are going to make this slow and painful

Maybe the caretaker they’ve latched onto reminds them of someone, they can barely gather the memories now but they are sure that they once knew someone like the caretaker who was sweet and gentle… so although they’re still terrified of everyone else, with this one they dare to hope that maybe they’ll be shown kindness

I LOVE the idea of a gruff caretaker finding whumpee curled up in a corner, trembling, and the caretaker holds out a sharp of a broken bowl and asks plainly ‘’did you do this?’’

Which of course is enough to have the whumpee go glassy-eyed, folding in on themselves, begging for forgiveness as they take their shirt off and kneel with their back exposed for the caretaker to whip until they’re bloody..

and mmhpphffhhf the whumpee offering themselves to the caretakers is so SO good. they’re so used to being used as a toy that when the caretakers lead them into their new bedroom, the whumpee immediately sees the bed and goes limp, thanking the caretakers for the food and warmth, of course they’ll please them, they’re good, they’re good, they’ll be whatever the caretakers want them to be

oh, this is all so good!! @newbornwhumperfly @whumpzone i eat up stuff like this with a spoon so for further consideration:

the caretakers seeing the whumpee’s scars and being horrified at the extent of the abuse. the poor, confused whumpee misreading this as disgust and going out of their way to prove that they’re not broken, they can still be used.

the whumpee seeing gifts or even basic kindnesses such as a meal or a night’s rest as something to be earned. kneeling down in front of the caretakers, offering up their small, fragile, battered form for punishment with huge, fearful eyes. being bewildered and even more scared when the caretakers refuse to hurt them, because that just means something worse is coming even later. nice things aren’t just given, not to them.

when one of the caretakers loses their temper over something—they’re not angry at the whumpee—but the whumpee hears them shouting or sees a look on their face and they just know. the whumpee going and hiding in the quietest, smallest corner available, trembling as they wait for the caretaker’s anger to turn on them. or worse, falling to the ground in front of the caretaker, eyes glassy, begging for mercy, they’ll be good, they’ll be so good, they promise, please—

the whumpee being forcibly held or cuddled by the whumpers for various reasons, and learning not to resist or pull away. after they’re rescued, they lean into touches, no matter how scared they are, because if the caretakers see they like being touched they won’t be angry or get rid of them.

“whumpee seeing gifts as something to be earned” is my fkn JAM!!

the whumpee has been so heavily conditioned and had it beaten into them that they’re barely even a person, they don’t deserve any kindness, they just exist to be used and hurt

just…. any instance of a rescued whumpee pleading that they’ll be good, they know how to behave, they’ll be so good they promise… instant whumperflies

the caretaker seeing the whumpee’s scars and the whumpee thinks they’re disgusted with them so they insist they’ll be good, they know who their owners are now, they won’t let anyone handle their owners property they swear, only their owners can hurt them now

aagh, i love this so much @whumpzone you don’t even know :) this post gave me so many whumperflies so here are some for you…

you mentioned the whumpee thinking they have no purpose in life but to be used and hurt and i — what if one of the caretakers ends up in trouble somehow, and the whumpee decides to sacrifice themself to save them? going to the whumper, pleading in a small voice with downcast eyes ‘you can do anything you want to me, i won’t fight, i’ll be good, i promise, just…please, please let them go’. the caretaker returning home scot free and wondering how they got away that easy. several hours later the whumpee limps in and sneaks a glance at the caretakers laughing and joking around the table, and in spite of the bruises on their body and the fact that it hurts to breathe, they manage a small smile anyway, because they’ve been useful.

just. the whumpee shrinking back as they are hassled by a stranger, maybe pushed and shoved and called demeaning names. that awful feeling of fear and helplessness, knowing no one will stand up for someone like them. their shock, when one of the caretakers appears and stands between them and the whumper, using their large frame as a shield while their words spit venom, warning the whumper to back off, now. the whumpee tentatively curling their fingers in the back of the caretaker’s jacket, wondering at this strange warm feeling of safety that spreads through them.

more angst?? the caretakers who rescue the whumpee are in a pretty dangerous situation themselves, and as such, they have to pretend to treat the whumpee roughly when they’re around others. shoving them, slapping them, barking orders and joking about how they’re going to punish the whumpee in private. it’s only when they’re alone that the caretakers allow their soft sides to come out, but it doesn’t have much of an impact on the whumpee, who is too terrified to let their guard down even for a moment. perhaps one of the caretakers (*cough* secret whumper *cough*) enjoys the “game” a little too much and starts taking the subterfuge further, hurting and humiliating the whumpee in public and when they’re alone.

the whumpee being severely touch-starved but not knowing how to ask for affection because creatures like them don’t deserve it. they watch the caretakers being all affectionate with each other and secretly replicate their actions when alone, hugging themself and rocking themself back and forth. sometimes the ache of loneliness in their chest gets so bad they almost cry, but they hastily blink the tears away and force themselves to smile. one of the caretakers being more openly affectionate than others and giving the whumpee little pats on the head or squeezing their shoulder and telling them they’ve done a good job. the whumpee treasuring every word and touch and working twice as hard just to earn that little bit of kindness.

Mountain (Part 6)

~#~#~#~#~#~

They arrived almost as soon as the snows cleared.  One moment Riva was blinking her eyes as a gray whirlwind brightened to glimmering, shining white, and the next she was watching the plane touch down somewhere outside the town’s borders.

“Your friends are here,” the doctor said, sticking her head through the door, and Riva nodded. Frederick was still asleep as she uncurled from the chair and left the blanket on the bed to hobble to the door.

She waited in the corridor – she didn’t want to leave Frederick, not now, not after she spent the last several hours imagining all the ways their trip could’ve ended badly.

who has thoughts? I have thoughts!

A whumpee who was for a long time forced to serve some evil organization. Then they end up with a new team, who are much better people. The whumpee's a good enough teammate, great help on the missions and do their duties around the base too. But show them any friendliness, anything even resembling affection, and they flinch away from it, assuming the other is trying to get some advantage from them by giving them more than what is absolutely necessary, and so leaving them in the other's debt.

Oh I love things like this SO much-

  • The team has learned to leave the whumpee alone, they seem to do fine without any kind of interaction other than work related talk. Of course the new teammate doesn’t know this and immediately tried to be as friendly as they could- didn’t turn out too well.
  • The whumpee had trusted someone before, someone they thought could get them out of that awful place, but the only thing that happened is that they were hurt because they were too desperate.
  • The whumpee can snap at someone if theyre shown affection, but they can’t allow themselves to make the same mistake they did last time.

How about a little extra angst👀👀👀 wherein the Whumpee gets kidnapped,,,,, and the team Doesn't Fucking Notice. Maybe the Whumpee has been a flake before, or maybe they were meant to be away for some time, or maybe the team is actually glad to get rid of them. Any which way, they're busy getting tortured by our dear Whumper while the team relaxes without a single care..... maybe they find out later and stage a guilty rescue, or maybe the Whumpee does all the work.

I have a prompt for your empty ask box!! Any chance you’d write a trope post for truth serum?

Trope: Truth Serum

Truth serum isn’t real.  But when have we ever let that stop us?

Drugged up to the gills, inhibitions gone, babbling everything that comes into their head - and there’s a lot, fleeting thoughts and deep confessions and sobbing insecurities and all their darkest secrets.  Everything except what the interrogators want to hear.

Forced commands, searing pain, truths spilling from their lips as they struggle to lie, to stay silent - tears well up in their eyes as secrets spill dispassionately from their mouth and their lips drip red as they bite to keep them locked.

A twisted spell, a magical restraint, every word careful and cautious because they cannot tell a lie - but caution does not last forever and the truth can’t hide for long.

And what do they reveal?

Their base, their plans, the culmination of years of work landing neatly in their captors’ laps?

Their secrets, their insecurities, the embarrassment and humiliation of looking into wide eyes and being unable to take it back?

Nothing - nothing at all but implications and words out of place and the growing feeling that putting all the pieces together will frame a puzzle that no one wants to see?

Because, you see, lies may wound but the truth destroys.

You know what I love?

When biting, caustic humor goes too far. When it was meant as a joke, but it hits home. When the cumulative weight of so many comments finally overwhelms the joking tone and it changes from something lighthearted to heart breaking.

When the character has internalized the jokes. When they truly believe they are fat, stupid, ugly, kept around only because they are sometimes useful, and so on.

When they bend over backwards trying to please their friends but every bit of praise is jokingly dismissed. “You did okay this time!” “Congrats, you weren’t as much a screwup as you could have been.” “Let’s see how long this lasts.”

When someone makes a joke and this time they don’t laugh. When they bow their head and try not to cry because “it’s just a joke” and they shouldn’t be so sensitive.

When they do make a mistake or do or say something stupid or unthinking and immediately apologize profusely, excessively, disproportionately. Related: they make a mistake and go through extraordinary efforts to make sure no one finds out. Bonus points if it’s something out of their control and they run themselves into the ground fixing the mistake.

My absolute favorite for all of the above if it’s the “good guys” doing this to a member of their own team that they never accepted as one of them (sixth ranger, heel-face turn, token monster, etc) and it’s foreshadowing that the heroes are the real villains.

Oh and then there is a point where the distrusted by team whumpee runs into another team who are actually nice to them. Whumpee was wounded and far away from others and next they wake up on another team's base and while the people there are somewhat distrustful and dislike, it does not give birth to casual cruelty. The team seems mostly just concerned with what whumpee was doing here, bleeding out and stuff.

Is this what group whump is?? Because I am living for it! This poor whumpee has been their team’s punching bag for so long, they can’t remember what anything else feels like. The people that took whumpee don’t lock them in their room; they are expected to eat regular meals, and the bigger/tougher members don’t push them around or force them to spar. Team Leader is stern but not cruel; they do make known whumpee’s limits while living in the team’s base, but they don’t use it to intimidate. Whumpee does eventually recover from their wound, but it’s a slow process; they’re already falling back into the habit of keeping quiet and small, and following orders as quickly as they can. They expect the same treatment from these people that whumpee’s last team gave them.

Hey. Giant Caretaker getting angry at Whumpee. Maybe the CT was just in a bad mood. But either way, they forget how their actions are perceived to someone so small. So when they slam their fist down, they barely notice Whumpee falling down. When they start to yell, they don't see Whumpee covering their ears and curling up in a ball. It's not until they grab them in a fist, and they beg them "Please don't hurt me, Whumper!" With tiny, teary eyes, do they realize what they've done. -Tiny Nonnie

Oh this mixes my two ridiculous niche interests G/T and whump. I love this new thread the community has hopped on lol
