I woke up really early which I do anyway but today it was because I couldn’t stop thinking about making this. Does the song fit his character? Eh but it does fit my FEELINGS for him and it’s a banger so there’s that.

hi I know this isn’t remotely related to theatre but I’m sharing it anyway bc it’s my blog and I can do what I want over here.

I hope you all are having a good life and a happy New Year’s Day. ♡♡♡

i just…. hamilton is so weird to me because this guy writes a whole ass show describing alexander hamilton as attractive and alluring (sure, why not- that’s not the point im making) and then casts himself in that part????? is that not gross to anyone else?? like it makes me uncomfortable to listen to the songs and hear them praise this guy and then know that the playwrite literally put himself in the show??

when people get upset at me bc they think im complaining that lin doesn’t look like hamilton did irl?? no?? like there are a lot of reasons that lin as hamilton is not my favorite thing, and that is not one of the reasons. however! it is weird to me because he’s described as being soooo handsome that allll the ladies falll for him (im exaggerating, obviously) and knowing that the man who wrote those lyrics is Playing That Part. this doesn’t have to bother you, but it does rub me the wrong way.

Support black theatre makers- it’s not enough to just think it. We must examine ourselves and how we view and treat BIPOC in theatrical spaces. We must put forth the work to actively make these spaces a safe space for BIPOC, as well as reaching into communities and making theatre a more accessible art form to non-white audiences, this does not mean financially. Making the theatre a space where all voices can be heard and all people can be seen should be a number one priority. Reaching out into communities and telling stories that will resonate with them, or at least has people who look like them in it, is such a simple thing that can go such a long way.

Side note: While there shouldn’t be a quote-unquote quota to fill in involving BIPOC in theatrical productions, as it should be based on talent. But if the “most talented” people being hired are always white, I don’t believe that they were the “most talented” people who applied for the position. And if they were, you need to examine why more POC weren’t applying/auditioning.

Hey guys, as a professional theatre actor this is super important. EVERY SINGLE industry pro that has EVER talked me about the audition room (including a casting director TODAY) has always stated that getting cast (professionally) is not usually based on talent—everyone is talented. It’s who is best fit for the role. And if that best fit is always white….well. You see the issue.

I don’t have anything to add to the conversation that hasn’t already been said, specifically said by black people. It is disheartening that there is still such rampant racism in our country, but more so that others will purposefully ignore it because it is hard to come to terms with. A society can only grow past tragedies if we all acknowledge they exist- and racism on a systematic level is perhaps one of the greatest tragedies we continuously face. I will never know what it’s like to exist as a black person today, but I will do my best to empathize with and listen to you all when speaking on the hardships you live through on a daily basis. No one should be scared to leave their home, and no one should be afraid that their loved ones won’t come home.
