So let me talk to you about Aedion.  Aedion, who lost his mother when he was so young he could barely remember her except as she was suffering; who grew up secretly resenting his unknown father for abandoning her, never knowing why.  Aedion, who loved his cousin more than his own life only to have her ripped from him while he was locked up and couldn’t help her, and blamed himself for a decade for that.  Aedion, who was assimilated into Adarlan war camps and managed to survive, for the sole purpose of trying to return to Terrasen to help his adopted country.   Aedion, who whored himself - probably literally as well as figuratively - to a man and country he hated, who was scorned and resented by all but a select few who understood, all to protect Terrasen.  Who endured it all for the memory of a handful of people he had loved but who were now gone.  Aedion, who tried to die so that Aelin wouldn’t put herself at risk.  Aedion, who sacrificed himself to try to get Dorian, Chaol, and Sorscha out once the King had sprung his trap.  Aedion, who stood in front of Rowan in the tunnels under the tower and was willing to die to try to save Aelin’s mate, before either Aelin or Rowan had acknowledged their bond. You want to hold it against Aedion for not immediately trusting the son of the man who had ruined his life, just because we think Dorian is sweet and cute?  He didn’t respect Dorian at first, no; but had Dorian ever done anything that actually meant anything to the world at large?  Had Dorian ever actually sacrificed anything to help someone?  He came around as Dorian earned it. You want to hold it against Aedion for resenting Gavriel?  Remember, after he exploded at him when they first met he told Lysandra he hadn’t meant to say any of that.  But he had 24 years of not knowing his father, of not understanding why he had grown up without either of his parents, then to learn that his mother had let herself die solely because of Gavriel’s blood oath to Maeve - do you honestly think you wouldn’t be a mite bit angry? And Lysandra - he had only asked one thing of Lysandra, and that was honesty.  After his mother and Rhoe and Evalin had lied to him about his heritage; after the world had lied to him about Aelin’s death; after Aelin lied to him again and again about her plans, he just wanted the woman he was in love with to be honest with him.  And she lied too.  Yet you want to hold it against him for being angry with her? Yet I see again and again Aedion mentioned as someone people wouldn’t mind seeing die in ToG 7.  The man who gives and gives of himself, who risks himself constantly not just for those he loves but for people he doesn’t even know, and the only thing he asks for in return is a little honesty. 

Finally someone fucking gets it. Aedion is one of my favourite tog characters and people are, honestly, way too harsh on him. Thank you for this.

@myspienky I’m obsessed with Aedion beyond all reason.  He’s my single favorite SJM character because I love the roles that he’s played when he’s really so pure of heart.

Okay this though? Aedion has been through so much and he deserves better.
