One of my favourite headcanons is that Severus is only viewed as Bastard dungeon bat by Harry and co. But to everyone else like the Hufflepuffs and Ravenclaws he’s just the hardass but effective teacher, and to the Slytherins he’s Slytherin House Dad.

Just read a post bashing all Snape ships and when Snupin came up they were like teehee if u want a good enemies to lovers ship chose Regulus x Remus. Which like solidifies for me that Regulus is used as a Snape replacement by a lot (not all, regulus is his own character with his own backstory that is interesting and unique) of ppl bc they r afraid of liking Snape or bc he was canonically described as ugly and poor.

Literally I need people to realize that Snape was an abused, sad and lonely character who was canonically bullied by his peers (There is not giving as good as he got when it’s four against one) , his most formative years in his life were spent miserable and alone with only one real friend and then he lost her too. He did do bad things, he did call lily a slur. He was not a kind teacher, all of those things are true. No one is saying that it didn’t happen.

Snape is a truly morally gray area character bc of these things, he did a lot of bad but he did a lot of good. Idc if u think his redemption arc is stupid, or if it was all just bc of guilt and you still think he’s a coward. I don’t have much of anything to say to you, there was no real binding for him to stay with Dumbledore and help him. Yes he had a good reason to switch sides in the first place but he did not have to stay. Snape 100% could have ran away and ducked out if he wanted to but he saw things through to the end.

I truly believe that those who hate Snape (If not for reasons bc of his terrible characterization in ATYD’s) only hate him sm bc he was poor and ugly. I have a good reason for it too.

One of the hp fandoms most popular characters is Draco Malfoy, a rich and sometimes handsome man. Who in his youth called people more slurs than can probably even be counted. Versus the once in Snapes worst memory. (Which is absolutely not redeemable but can be explained a bit by the fact that Snape literally was hanging upside down having one of the worst moments in his life and then seeing that his only friend almost laughed at him, versus Draco saying it like water whenever he felt like it).

Yet while Snape is hated and ppl who love him are policed and call names online Draco is wildly loved. As with other canonically bad characters who were death eaters. Hell even Voldemort himself is looked on more kindly in the marauders and hp fandom bc he was canonically good looking before he destroyed himself with magic.

Like I really don’t want to hear it anymore, none of these characters are saints. JKR wrote almost all of them as two sided sometimes good and sometimes horrible ppl. If u dislike Snape that’s fine but stop policing those who do. It’s genuinely crazy to me how ppl can dislike him sm that its all they talk abt sometimes. Move on and leave people alone bc I rlly haven’t seen one good enough argument that justifies Snape being bullied by the fandom while similar characters are loved.
