Aaaa Mercy with Error and Dream?

Prompt: Mercy

Pairing: insomnia (error/dream)

Word Count: 770

~~~~
When he opened his eyes, the world was dark. His head was pounding, and his mouth twisted up into a frown as he tried to remember what had happened before he passed out, before ultimately shutting his eyes and giving up.
The thought of sitting up made his stomach swim, so he stayed laying down where he was. With everything aching the way it was, he almost wished he just hadn't woken up. It was hard to focus on anything but the aching pain, and so for several moments, he drifted just on the edge of consciousness.
What brought him back was the unmistakable sound of space time being ripped open, a portal to another universe tearing its way through the air. He knew the sound well enough.
He must be in Blue's house, he reasoned. It was the logical place, after all. Blue was his friend, and he'd stayed over so often that Blue had practically given him the guest room. It would also explain the soft surface he lay on, and the cloth covering his eyes. He was sick, or had been injured during their last spat with Nightmare, and Blue was taking care of him.
… That didn't sound right.
Despite his aches and pains, Dream sat up, the cloth over his eyes falling down and pooling in his lap. It had been a blanket after all, but he wasn't focused on that, the white nothingness of the anti-void greeting him and making him nauseous.
"Hey, dumbass, lay back down," a gruff voice snapped at him, and even though his head was spinning, he turned and met the mismatched eyes of Error, the outcode being and symbol of destruction.
And instead of laying back down, he passed out.
When Dream woke again, it was to the blanket covering his eyes and the irritated grumbling of a certain outcode he couldn't say he knew all that well. As compared to the other outcodes he knew. At least his headache was gone.
With his head no longer pounding, he recalled his last memories. There had been a battle, of that much he was certain. Ink had reported a sighting of Cross and Killer, from Nightmare's little band of misfits. They were clearly up to no good, so he had taken Blue with him to see what they were up to. He couldn't quite recall what had happened, but he knew at some point, he had been shoving Blue out of the way of an attack.
"What happened?" He groaned, keeping his eyes closed and himself under the blanket. In his state, the white of the anti-void was sure to irritate him rather than anything else. A huff of breath sounded from his left, and Error's skipping voice spoke up.
"Building collapsed on you."
He said nothing else, and Dream pushed aside the blanket just a bit to sneak a look up at Error. Golden eyes fell to mismatched hands, which were busy weaving blue string together in some kind of braid. Error wasn't paying attention to him, so he took another moment to look around, assessing where exactly he was.
He knew he was in the anti-void, of course, but he didn't remember the anti-void having blankets to lay on or pillows to prop his head up. Nor did he remember it having beanbags or little boxes of knickknacks strewn about. He definitely didn't remember the ceiling, which extended into darkness, woven over with webs of blue string.
"You and that swap incode interrupted Cross and Killer's date," Error spoke up again, and Dream turned to look at him. The other outcode wasn't meeting his eyes, gaze firmly fixed on his hands, which were still weaving away. "You're wondering, I can tell. They called Nightmare, Nightmare called me. Blue made it out okay. You didn't."
"Oh," Dream said eloquently. He lay back down again, suddenly feeling the urge to either disappear from the world or throw up. "Why save me?" He finally asked.
"Dunno," Error muttered, and turned away. It was silent for a long time after that, and Dream could sense that that was all he was going to get from Error on the subject.
Sighing, he gave up and dropped it, closing his eyes and covering his face with the blanket again. He'd take Error's unexpected mercy without any more questions.
(Though when he thought back on the details of it later, when he returned to Blue's house and allowed the sprightly incode to fret and worry over him, he couldn't help but wonder if he was making up the blue flush of magic on Error's face.)
@copper-bby requested Forced God of Destruction Error and Dream, with dark blue!
((This took a much sadder turn than I was originally planning... ngl I cried a little writing it. Warning for character death, although it doesn't actually happen onscreen.))
Error always came back. That's what Dream told himself, for weeks and weeks on end, until it became a desperate prayer he whispered to himself during every waking moment. Error always came back. He couldn't die for long, he wasn't allowed to. He repeated it while tears dripped into his morning coffee, cold as stone long ago. He chanted it beneath his breath while he searched world after world, each one empty of the soul he sought. He said it over and over until his voice and his heart broke and he couldn't speak anymore, because he was crying too hard.
And now here he was over a month later, standing over a simple hand-carved stone placed beneath the stars Error used to love. There was no dust. He hadn't been there when it happened, and by the time he heard the news it was much too late.
"I'm sorry I wasn't there," he whispered, and then he was crying again. He was crying a lot these days. He crumpled to his knees, dropping the flowers before he quite realized it. Then he was frantically gathering them up, checking them over through his tears. They were unharmed, deep blue petals nearly glowing in the starlight. They were the same color as the sparkling sky above them, Dream and the empty grave, and they were as dark as the cloud of anguished sorrow that had always clung to Error, no matter what Dream did to try and chase it away.
He set the flowers besides the stone, gently as though he was afraid of disturbing the soul that wasn't there. He wiped the tears from his eyes and rocked back on his heels, taking a deep breath. "Goodbye, Error. I'm sorry I couldn't save you, and I… I'm sorry I never told you I loved you."
Any Insomnia headcanons? I absolutely *adore* the oneshot you wrote for Error's birthday - I've reread it at least a dozen times, and out of the few hundred fics I've read on ao3 it's definitely one of my favourites. I really enjoyed the characterisation, hence why I'm asking. Another thing; how did they break the news to the others? Were Ink and Blue expecting it?
I'm beyond honoured that my story is one of your favorites! I'm really glad you enjoy it, that was an extremely fun one to write.
As for headcanons… I do have a few! Some of these were touched upon in my story, but I'll list them all anyway :D
Error loves Dream's star eyes, and he's constantly doing things to try and make them appear. He frequently calls Dream nicknames like Starshine, Starlight, Little Star, etc. because of his eyes, which Dream stubbornly refuses to admit he likes.
Dream is the only one who can tell Error what to do. If anyone else tries, he usually does exactly the opposite of what they want out of pure spite, but when it comes to Dream he's more than happy to do what he asks. Most of the time, anyway. Sometimes even Dream can't stop him when he really puts his mind to something.
Likewise, Error is the only one who can make Dream take a break. His star is very bad when it comes to not overworking himself, so when it starts getting bad Error snatches him away from whatever he's doing and forces him to take nap.
Dream's aura makes Error's haphephobia a lot easier to deal with, making it possible for them to hold hands and such. He still frequently struggles with full-on cuddling though, so it's not at all uncommon for Dream to wrap himself into a blanket burrito and snuggle up to Error that way.
Dream loves flustering Error, but it's surprisingly hard to do. Compliments are accepted gracefully and more often than not turned back on Dream with double the force- and compliments fluster Dream very quickly indeed. He becomes an adorable little lightbulb, while Error just laughs and calls him cute.
As for how they break the news to the others, well… Dream and Error aren't nearly as subtle as they think they are, so by the time they work up the courage to tell everyone they're all just like "Yeah, we know." Literally the only one who's actually surprised is Ink, and he's very supportive of their relationship. He wants his friend to be happy of course, but he also realizes that the more time Error spends with Dream, the less time he has to be out and about destroying worlds.
And, this got a bit long, whoops... but since when were my answers ever short?
All Wrapped Up - An ErrorDream Oultown Fic
So, I’ll be participating in the Insomnia Week using this AU starting from tommorow, and I wrote this short fic to help me pinpoint their dynamic and get my creative juices going.
Error by CQ
Dream by Joku
***
Dream hesitated for a second before pushing the library door open. It was located in a huge building in the centre of town. It’s honestly surprising that he’s never been here before.
The interior of the building was filled to the brim with dusty bookshelves. There were blue strings hanging from the ceiling, connecting everything like a web.
He walked over to what he assumed to be the librarian desk. Sitting behind it was a darker figure of a person who seemed to be reading a book. He cleared his throat loudly.
The person looked up at him questioningly. Oh no. Dream couldn’t help but get lost in his multicolored eyes. He felt his cheeks get hotter as he fixated on his face.
“Do you need help with something?”, the stranger asked after a while. That snapped Dream out of it and suddenly he felt very embarrassed. He took a small step back.
“W-well I n-needed to s-see… D-do you… Hav-ve any b-books on s-snake reprod-duction…?”, he stumbled on his words. His blush only grew as he looked at the person again.
The stranger pulled on one of the strings attached to his hand, a book descending next to him. He untangled it and pulled it over to scan its code.
“What should I register you as?”
“I-it’s Dream…”, he answered quickly, trying to get rid of the stutter in his voice. The person typed something on the keyboard, but stopped for a second, seeming like he was debating something.
“I don’t believe we’ve met before. My name’s Error”, he said simply, locking his eyes with Dream’s. “Nice to meet you”
He went back to typing on his computer, finishing and handing him the book. Dream was in shock for a couple of seconds. He didn’t seem to be able to process what just happened, and his face was shining a really bright yellow. He blinked a few times, trying to put his mind back on track.
He slowly extended his arm, snatching the book out of Error’s hand. He took a few shaky steps back.
“Umm, see you”, he said, turning around and running towards the door as fast as he could. He forced the door open, falling out onto the street. He took a few shaky breaths.
Well, he was into the deep of it now.
Loving you was a mistake. (Insomnia.)
I tried to work by the week prompts. I swear I did-  I just couldn’t exactly come up with anything, and writer’s block and art block hit hard But I managed to whip this up, wooo.  At the end of the week, but still. I mean I kind of used the trust and mistake thing in here-? Does that count-?  Well anyways; here are the warnings; (ask to tag,)  - Haphephobia  - Toxic relationship  - A n g s t  ———————————————————————————————————- Skeletal hands intertwined, melted chocolate carefully being laced over vanilla.
Day 7: Mistake
Yellow everyone! Day 7 of ErrorDream Week, hosted by @errorxdream, here we go! Are you ready to have your hearts broken? Good. I’m ready to feast on your anguish.
ALSO! Yes, all the prompts for this week are connected in one big story. Soooo…if you missed it, you might want to read Day 6 to understand everything in this one!
Fandom: Undertale, but specifically Dreamtale, Errortale, Inktale and Underswap
Characters: Dream, Nightmare (Who belong to Joku), Error (Who belongs to CQ), Ink (Who belongs to Comyet), Core Frisk (Who belongs to ???, I don’t know) and Blue (Who belongs to P0pcornPr1nce)
Pairings: ErrorDream/Insomnia
Warnings: Major Character Death, and I think that’s it. Let me know!
Word Count: 2432
~oOo~
It ended with death.
Maybe it was the act of someone who was blinded with rage. Maybe it was a misunderstanding. Maybe the person learned what they did was wrong and so continued for the rest of their life hoping that the people they killed would forgive them. Maybe the person was being controlled and did it against their will.
Error and Dream didn’t know.
They never will know, either.
After all, it ended with death.
That is what Dream would say. That is what Error would say.
That is what Blue will say. That is what Nightmare will say.
That is what everyone in the Multiverse will say.
~oOo~
Ink stared at the numerous islands around him, expression blank.
Dream and Error were soulmates.
They were…together. Lovers.
Blue had known that before he did.
He had a suspicion that Nightmare had as well.
Ink was…confused.
