Halloween discourse! Since I too agree that fall and Halloween are the best season and holiday, how do you feel about the War on Christmas? I think we need to seriously escalate the war to retake the valuable territory that is November, which Christmas has been unlawfully occupying for decades. November is FALL month and as we expand the territory into September, we should remember that November is rightfully ours too! We need a post Halloween buffer state. All fall belongs to Halloween!!!
I agree of course, but I need to remind you that Halloween expansionism has a dark history which we must be mindful of.
The logical solution here is to strengthen the position of Thanksgiving to prevent Yuletide encroachment, but… eh, Thanksgiving.
How about Harvest? Decor, seasonal merchandise, and general mood shall be themed to the Harvest until December 1st. Harvest shall be “mildly Halloween” insofar as it is more focused on corn and pumpkins than on skeletons and ghosts, but ultimately owes far more loyalty to Halloween than Christmas.
But harvest festival is in September, so it can work as a buffer to keep Halloween from encroaching on summer, but it can’t do anything on the Christmas side.
I recommend that Americans adopt bonfire night. Very autumnal, very cosy, with pretty fireworks and cheerful murder themes. Plus it does the job of keeping Christmas contained just as well as thanksgiving without having to do all the cooking and being civil to relatives.
