Thank you for all the post/reblogs concerning pan/bi discourse. I’m gay, and I always roll my eyes when I see definitions of pansexuality. In all honesty, it doesn’t just hurt the bi community, it hurts everyone else, too. Especially considering the stereotype about lgb folks has been “they only care about what’s in your pants!!” For so long. Now pansexuals are saying, “yeah! They do! That’s why we’re special.” It’s just nice to see a blog actively reconfirming my thoughts lol
I’m convinced that the reason why bisexuality has been struggling to get any kind of mainstream recognition or support for decades but pansexuality has overnight become all the rage in the mainstream media is precisely because it validates all the worst stereotypes about the LGBT community: that gay and bisexual people are just sex obsessed deviants and that it’s okay to be grossed out by trans people because you actually have to be a separate special sexual orientation to like them! Like you said, pansexuality isn’t just biphobic, it’s also actively transphobic and homophobic and that’s why cishet people love it and that’s why it’s also no wonder so many people say “I call myself pan because it just feel better than bi”. Of course it feels better, it’s reaffirming the entire LGBT-phobic system you grew up in.
