Hi! So my course is Spatial Planning Msc, so there should be online info you can find about it. Basically this course is what you make it. There isn’t any requirement to use GIS at all, however as I have previous experience I’m likely to use it in my dissertation. They have given us a lot of sheets, examples, and workshops on graphic skills including GIS and Adobe and AutoCAD, so if you don’t like GIS and like something else then there will be absolutely no pressure to use it. However I would check on your own course’s requirements and if you’re unsure contact the course programmer who might be able to put you in touch with the course rep who can help you. The GIS software we use is QGIS, but I also have experience with R and Rstudio, so it comes still as a challenge to me but I understand the basics. In my geography undergrad R and Rstudio were compulsory modules for all of year 1 and 2. I hope that helps? There’s a lot of online help with QGIS if you do want to use it.
