thoughts about dressing

1. Don’t judge your outfits by how they look in pictures--judge how they look in the mirror. Some people just aren’t photogenic.

2. Wear your clothes correctly--make sure tight jeans are washed so that they are tight. The seams on the tops of shirts should sit on your shoulders. You can change things around, but don’t let your style be defeated just because you button your shirt incorrectly. I guess I’ll also throw tailoring in here. Most clothing is made with an “average” body in mind, with the idea that the clothes would be tailored to fit a person specifically. If you wonder why models look good in clothes, it isn’t because they have a perfect body to fit ALL clothes. It’s more than likely because the clothes are altered to fit them correctly. Thus, the clothes look better. Altering clothes isn’t actually that hard, and a lot of the time, you don’t need to permanently alter the clothing. Tucking, belting etc can take care of a lot of that.

3. Clothes should emphasize features, not hide them. If you’re hiding behind your clothes, you’ll probably succeed which means that you’ll be hidden.  That doesn’t mean that you need to emphasize features on yourself that you don’t like. It means that you should wear clothing that draws attention to the features that you want attention drawn to.

4. Master basic hygiene. No outfit will be helpful if you have messy hair. People who have messy hair in pictures rarely actually have messy hair. They have stylized messy har which probably took longer to do than normal hair.

5. Plan ahead--when shopping, make sure to buy clothes that all generally match. If your clothes all generally match, you can make more varied outfits. This will make it appear that you don’t wear the same outfit every day. I’ll sum this up in another way in the next bullet.

6. Don’t buy statement pieces--If you buy statement pieces, you suddenly plan a whole outfit around the piece and then you have one set outfit. Rather, think of your whole outfit as a statement. No one thing should stand out: YOU should stand out.

7. Take care of your clothing. This might be overzealous, but I don’t dry my socks. I hang dry them so that they don’t wear out. Hang things correctly on the hanger (Don’t pull the hanger through the neck of the shirt)

8. When thrift shopping, keep the goal in sight. There are so many good pieces in thrift stores, but don’t let the cheapness let your standards drop. If the standards don’t live up to a firsthand store, don’t buy it at a thrift store. Ex: I don’t buy white shirts at thrift stores unless they are basically new, or if there are any of those little pills on the shirts, I don’t buy them. I also tend to avoid buying less-expensive clothing at thrift stores unless it is exactly what I was looking for. I tend to aim for more-expensive brands at thrift stores and leave my wal-mart/target clothing to the clearance racks at said stores.

9. Remember that dressing up does not come “effortlessly” like pictures make it seem.

10. When you wear something, hang the hanger up backwards in your closet to keep track of the clothing that you’ve already worn. When you reach the point where all of your hangers are turned around and you can’t bear the thought of wearing any of your remaining clothes, you could probably get rid of those clothes. I have a rule for myself that I don’t allow myself to have more clothing than hangers. That way I keep good track of the clothing that I have and make sure to wear all of them.

11. Shop by how the piece fits, not by size. Sizes are so dumb. In pants, depending on where I shop, I wear anywhere from a size 2-11. Buy pants and shirts that fit and don’t worry if it is an XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXL or a 89S. I kind of wish that sizes would just disappear because I don’t really shop by sizes and they just get distracting. Don’t limit yourself to shopping “in your size.” One of my favorite dresses ever was a maternity dress and I’ve never been pregnant. A shirt that looks lame on you in “your size” might look better in a smaller or larger size (think oversized tee or crop-top.)

Had a vague inkling that I might have the best friends on this planet, but now I know. The turds got me tickets to Hamilton. 😢 thank you guys. It's a real self-esteem boost to know that people like you like people like me. ✔ bucketlist. #hamilton #joy #bucketlist (at Eccles Theater)

In the vast world of comics, I wonder if there have been heroes with a “Groundhog Day,” type power. By that I specifically mean a hero who, if they die, immediately finds themselves waking up at the beginning of that day again. If they don’t die, they just continue forward through time.

I’m just thinking of how crazy it would be to have that hero on your super hero team. Like, you go to headquarters in the morning, and it seems like everything’s normal. But then you go to fire off a one liner, and they say it at the same time as you. And suddenly you know. Something went wrong.

And then one day you come in, and your heart drops as you see that their every move looks rehearsed. They answer questions before asked. They are totally aware of everything that’s about to happen. Imagine how scary that would be, realizing you’re starting a day that you’re team mate has failed to survive maybe dozens of times.

I came to BYU for a degree and what I left with was a family. You people (not just the ones in the pictures) are really what made the time here important. Sitting in the car listening to tunes. Going on mental health drives. Lighting a fire in the snow. Learning a new language. Playing mancalla with our eyes closed. Signing my cast when my leg was broken and giving me rides to school. You were avalible to give blessings and you allowed me to love and support you even though you hated it. We flipped rocks over in streams, and we picked up gloves off of the side of the road.  I'm lucky I got to share a graduation day with just a few of you. But I need everyone to know that if I've ever called you friend, I probs meant family. Thank you. Obviously Someone knew that I needed the experience of letting some people dazzle me. #letstalkaboutfamily #aslfam #byufam #iloveyouall #iveobvioualybeenwatchingtoomichfastandthefurious #thanksemily #byu #graduated #letmewaxsappy (at Brigham Young University)

The Avengers as a Western

Steve is the Sheriff. Clint is his deputy. Tony is the Blacksmith. Natasha runs the Saloon. Bruce is the physician with a split personality and Thor gets into a hell of a lot of tavern brawls.

Together, however, they manage to bring order to the once corrupt town of Triskelion.

Concept: Sirius convinces the Marauders to do a “Family Portrait” in their animagus form.

  • Except for Remus, obviously.
  • So Remus is the one human who has to go into the photographer and ask for the picture.
  • Remus is a mixture of embarrassed, exasperated, and amused.
  • “Hello, yes, I’d like to take a picture with my, er, pets.”
  • And this photographer is just astounded that Remus has these very manageable and obedient pets.
  • In all fairness, it’s a VERY good picture.
