In the world of Fae, humans are accepted, but they are servants and workers. Instead they were regarded as greater than other humans. They lived among the Folk (if they wished) almost as one of them. But such families weren't common. Although Adessa has grown up in similar splendour as the Fae, she has never gone out to interact with them. It was safer and easier to not get their attention. But things change after her best friend dies and she finds out who did it. Now she lives among the Folk, becoming close with the first prince, Nova, while her attention keeps going to Caelan, the second prince, the one ostracised by everyone, due to the lack of powers everyone else in the royal family has.

synopsis

A princess gets kidnapped at a ball. A pirate crew was tasked with kidnapping the kingdom's princess in exchange for a treasure map another pirate had found. They decided to do it, because the treasure map was worth it and the princess was said to be the worst. It goes without a problem, which is rather concerning, but they don't think about it too much. Turns out, she's not as awful as all those rumours made her out to be. And she didn't even know about those rumours that she realised must have been spread by the king himself, who already abused her. After some time of getting to know her, the captain decides that he doesn't want to give her away to that pirate, but he still does want that map. So the plan is, give her to him, get the map and then get her and run. The issue is, they don't know what that pirate wants with her. Finally, they find out once they give her away, he wants to marry her. Along the way, she also discovers some secrets about herself.

The weather is going from iced coffee to milk tea and I'm a little excited about that part. And I'm rereading The Picture of Dorian Gray with my two friends in our casual book club, and I'm trying to annotate it since it's one of my favourite books and it's taking a while to read like that. And yes, I'm using an orange highlighter and orange tabs to match the cover.
