I, a trans person, tell @bogleech that anti-obscenity laws will always disproportionately harm and endanger marginalized communities. I tell him he sounds exactly like conservatives when they tell me I should keep my ‘perversions’ in private. Bogleech doesn’t like that.

He heads over to tumblr and tells his followers I’m a pedophile. Worse yet, I’m a pedophile comparing my pedophilia to being trans! Thank goodness trans people have bogleech to stand up for them.

And what immediately shows up in the comments? A call for my public execution (already reported, I didn’t get a screenshot) and folks like @whywolfprincess here heartily agreeing that I, a trans person who does not make or share underage content, should be investigated by the police for grooming and abuse.

I have a six year old daughter, and people on the internet want the police investigating whether to take her away… because I pointed out that equating everything on earth to pedophilia will hurt queer people first. And they disagree.

I guess they don't watch the news. I just saw a post on Twitter not that long ago about them wanting to take LGBTQ+ books out because "it'll groom the kids and make them think being trans is okay and normal. It's pedophilia and we don't want such books there to promote that."

They really don't know what they sound like. There is no self-awareness. That's why it's really hard to take these kinds of people seriously. They will not survive the winter. Smh

I, a queer person, am being punished by my local government (they retroactively pulled a building permit for a structure I spent over $20,000 legally constructing after I called them hypocrites at a very public council meeting and started a political watch group) for raising a stink about them trying to BAN QUEERNESS FROM PUBLIC SPACES. How fucking DARE @bogleech sit there and pretend like censorship of ANY kind doesn't come for us fucking first.

I have NO idea why this person brought up 2 girls 1 cup (I think she's trying to imply that this whole debate is just about children "seeing adult things" and chose an absurdist example?) but she strongly believes it is not common for minors to be negatively affected by fandom content of kids shipped with adults, at least not enough that adults should feel any responsibility at all about where they post it.

You're over on Twitter saying this never happens, and here you are dismissing a post where clearly many, many people are saying it does?

No. We're saying it doesn't happen any more than any other grooming tool being used, because groomers will use whatever is available to them and relevant to the victim's interests, and we've BEEN saying this for ages. You've just been ignoring our arguments. The point is that grooming is an issue, and that banning the tools they use to groom will not actually stop them. They'll find another tool. And if you ban all tools, they'll make one up. The only way to stop abuse is to address the issue with the abusers themselves.

But even if your point made any damn sense, this is irrelevant data gathering on both sides anyway, because you have your audience of antis, and we have our own separate audience. There's inherent bias, this isn't a random sample for either of us.

Anyways, anything can be used to groom someone; the fault will always lie in the abusers and not their tools; all art that doesn't harm a nonconsenting person or other living being is morally permissible; and frankly it would make just as much sense for me to argue that Doctor Who causes sexual assault because I was sexually assaulted by a person I thought was my friend when they invited me over to watch Doctor Who. (Spoiler for those confused: Doctor Who does not cause sexual assault, and neither does any other art. Abusers choose to abuse, and predators choose to assault. Don't give them an out by shifting the blame to their tools.)

We can have a discussion about providing more separation between kids and adults on twitter- most proshippers would LOVE more tools- but arguing that we need to ban handholding in age gap fanart while leaving literal hardcore pornography at the same visibility is fucking bonkers.

What kills me about this is Bucky doesn’t WANT to die. That look isn’t rage or defiance or even resignation, that’s legitimate fear. The man who was broken and turned into death itself doesn’t want to die. This isn’t the reaction you expect from someone who has up to this point been a killing machine. He looks trapped and scared and YOUNG. It’s a look you didn’t even seen on Bucky when he WAS young. He thinks Steve is coming over to finish him, I mean it’s what HE would do. But for someone so intimately acquainted with death, he’s scared of it. Because all he’s known of people for the last 70 years is pain and abuse and it’s a look that expects more from Steve because that’s what people DO to him. People hurt him when he doesn’t function right and he KNOWS he’s not functioning right and if Steve doesn’t kill him, HYDRA will because he’s past his expiration date of usefulness and he’s failing…

But Bucky’s a survivor. He’s got more resilience than any other character is asked for. His drive is to live. When the machine is broken enough that a little bit of Bucky can get back through, even in the midst of an existential crisis and confused and frustrated, that bit of Bucky wants to live.

That’s what Sebastian brought to the character. He brought the humanity in the machine. The victim trapped in metal and leather who doesn’t WANT to be there. Who’s NOT a stone cold assassin. Who was kind and gentle and protective, not a death weapon. The part who has no idea why this was done to him and didn’t deserve any of it and is so confused as to why people are HURTING him.

The Winter Soldier is terrifying because Sebastian let you see the humanity in him. The part of him that we know would never be choosing to do what HYDRA made him do. They broke him and twisted him and he had no choice in the matter. Nothing that was done to him was deserved. Bucky’s tragic because he was the innocent victim who wasn’t just abused and had terrible things happen to him, but who was literally turned into his worst nightmare and who couldn’t do anything about it.

Tell me again that Bucky was the villain.

Hello friends, it’s time to combat misinformation: Amazon’s thank-your-driver program ran out of money and is OVER.

The purpose of the program was to encourage people to download and use the Alexa app. Getting users to try a new piece of software is a massive hurtle, but one they might do ‘for charity.’ Once people have learned to use it for one thing, Amazon hopes they will use it for something else.

In a brilliant marketing strategy, Amazon leveraged the widespread public dissatisfaction with their employment policies into a viral news story that will encourage people to use their products more. Due to the nature of viral stories, this one will continue to encourage Alexa usage even though the program itself is no longer paying out.

(You can still thank your driver and Alexa will still tell people their driver has been ‘thanked’ with no mention of the $5 bonus which is, of course, not being paid.)

SO if you see people sharing articles about it remember to pipe up and explain the program is OVER.
