A Case of Mistaken Identity || Tiger Fairy

@tink-bell
Shere sat there a bit awkwardly, waiting for her to say something.
The silence was not necessarily unpleasant, don’t mistake him for that, as there was no real silence around him, but it was a bit odd. He vaguely knew she wasn’t a threat, despite the Tiger’s initial hackles being raised at the stranger approaching the table, but the staring was a tad, uh, interesting.
No one had stared at him like that in a great while. Or, at the very least, that he knew about. ( His students, men and women both, stared, but Shere didn’t recall the action or had blocked it from his memory long ago. ) Finally, she splattered to life, and Shere’s grin grin a fractional inch, amused though not willing to make her feel poorly about it. “A tea, then,” he agreed, and stood, the movement smooth but careful.
He gripped the head of his cane firmly in hand before turning and moving at an easy pace toward the counter. Thankfully, he did not have to wait long, and he already knew what he would be drinking. He told the batista to “surprise him,” as the blonde had put it, for his other tea and the woman smiled at him and nodded her head as he thumbed a few bills onto the counter and shoved a few more into the tip jaw for good measure.
Shere knew from hearing Tiegan talk about her various jobs that tips were sometimes some of the best money she could get in an evening. Even if it wasn’t much, he had tried ever since to tip well. His name was called a few minutes later and he took both beverages, balancing one easily in the same hand as his cane, and maneuvered back to the table.
“One surprise tea, per your request.”

As soon as the man moved away, Tink let out a deep breath. She needed to pull herself together. What kind of first impression was she making? Especially considering she knew she came across as witty online and through text. Hell, she’d carried on an entire flirtationship while in rehab and that was completely through text. Not consummated until well after she’d gotten back home and even then she’d not been as flustered as she was at this moment in time. Where the hell was that Tink Bell at?

Short answer? Lost.

It’d been so long since she’d been single and willing to mingle with anyone. Sophie had... certainly done a number on her. But she was over that! She was ready to get back to the fun-loving Tink that she’d been before. Looking for love in all the wrong places and having fun while doing it. This date was going to be the first of many. She was convinced.

At least it would be if she could remove the shoe she’d inserted into her mouth at the start of it.

When he returned with her surprise tea, she took it with a grin before taking an experimental taste. It tasted like fall. Warm and crisp though the flavor changed slightly into something just a bit spicy as it made it’s way down her throat. Delicious in a way a pumpkin spiced anything could never be. “Perfect. I have no idea how they do it every time but I swear. They always know. Always.” She grinned as she set her cup down on the table.

“You didn’t tell me you were a teacher in all of our texts. Which is understandable considering how focused we both were on other things.”

Midnight Memories || Double T

Tod moved to grab a root beer from the fridge, popping the cap off and knocking the door shut again with his hip. “You’re betting my precious sweet treats AND bragging rights? This must be my lucky day.” He slumped down on the couch beside her and cuddled into the pillows, letting out the stress he’d been feeling in the form of a deep sigh. “Game on.”
It felt nice to have some sense of normality. It always seemed like he had taken two steps forward to recovery and then two steps backward again. Not that he didn’t make all the choices toward regression or progression. He could have chosen not to pursue all the things he had and yet, he still did anyway. Lost in that thought, he hardly realized he’d been staring at the ceiling all that time. “Sorry!” He laughed, moving back toward the kitchen, “lost in thought.”

The moment Tod got comfortable, Tink was at his side. Personal space didn’t exist. Not when Tink was around. She curled into his side easily, head resting lightly against his chest. This was how she helped her friends. How she coped with anything. Squash the problem by inserting herself in it’s space. Only it didn’t seem to immediately work as Tod went quiet for a long moment.

She wanted to prod, to poke and pick at him, until he gave up what was really bothering him. But she knew that it took time with Tod. That he would open up and talk to her when he felt ready to. And after she had prodded just a little bit. At least enough to warrant a huff of slight frustration from him.

“What’s the rule? No apologies.” She reminded him of this in a matter of fact tone. “After all these years you’re just gonna forget that? I didn’t think I was gone that long, gracious.” Giving Tod a teasing nudge, she settled again and huffed. “I have a bet to win... and a lot of krispies to eat. Something along the lines of my body weight.”

Midnight Memories || Double T

Truth be told, Tod really hadn’t minded at all when Tink made random visits or came in unexpectedly. She reminded him of the person he used to be when he was little. Energetic and strong, and perhaps just a little loud… He thought it brought life back into the cottage. Something his grandmother would have loved. It was this and the thought that if something bad happened to him, she’d definitely know and look for him. It was always nice to have that reassurance.
Just as he had finished smoothing it into the glass, he gave a glance and then a father-like point. “No touching. Just a few minutes and it’ll be good to eat. Still warm.” He ran his hands under the water then and dried them before reaching over to give her a hug. Sometimes just that small like physical connection was enough to make him feel that much more healed.
“Perfect! Exactly what the doctor ordered.” He gave his shoulders a stretch and laughed at all the choices she’d made. It was all so very– Tink. He loved it. “You know I quote more than half these movies with you front and back by now. It’s like a challenge.”

Tod chided and Tink pouted further. It wasn’t her fault that she liked sweet treats. Or that Tod made amazing rice krispies. There was nothing like his homemade ones. Store bought? Pffft. They had nothing on those. But she guessed she could wait a few more minutes. Pass the time by making their fort as comfortable as possible and get their first movie ready.

After that? Those ooey gooey treats were hers.

Flitting towards the living room, Tink hummed as she grabbed pillows from the couch and arranged them in the most comfortable position for them to lounge about. “We should make it a challenge,” she called back into the kitchen as she grabbed some blankets from another room. “Winner gets rice krispie treats and bragging rights.” She didn’t know if she could make those treats as well as Tod did but the bragging rights should be enough for him.

Or he could come up with his own terms.

Midnight Memories || Double T

Tod meant for his text to be a little more reassuring. It wasn’t often that he searched out comfort from others and honestly, he would much rather help others than be helped himself and still– there was something about this dream that had really gotten to him. It had to leak out somewhere and with Tink, it just felt natural. She wouldn’t judge him, though he was afraid of her usually very accurate advice.
When she entered like she usually did, like a recurring best friend on a sitcom, Tod had been in the kitchen, working on fresh rice krispy treats. If he could make them anything for a well deserved friend date, it at least had to be sweet and delicious. “Alright, Kimmy Gibbler!” He called, spreading his mixture into a pan. “I’m in the kitchen!”
When she arrived and started grabbing the bowls, he couldn’t help but just gawk at the snacks… How much had he eaten that day? Honestly he couldn’t remember. “Oh, you have no idea how ready I am… Any idea what we’re watching?”

The nickname made Tink roll her eyes fondly at one of her oldest friends, though a smile never truly left her face. There was no doubt that she was very much like Kimmy Gibbler the way she dropped in on Tod, most times without warning, but she knew secretly Tod loved that about her. It was just how their relationship worked. He was the quiet, more reserved of the two and she was the loud and obnoxious one. It worked perfectly.

Dumping a bag of chips into one of the bowls, Tink eyed the famous krispy treats Tod had made. She wanted to reach out and sneak a taste but knew it would be frowned upon and more than likely not possible. Which was fine. She supposed she could wait until it was ready. Even if it was one of her favorite treats in the world.

“Mmm, I got all our favorite comfort movies. All sappy endings and no death.” She announced with a flourish of her hands as she pulled the DVD’s out of the other bag. “All the classics. The Hangover Trilogy, Juno, two of the Pitch Perfect movies because we all know the third one is absolute trash, aaannnddd Mean Girls.”

Midnight Memories || Double T

Yet another Swynlake dream that absolutely sucked. Well, it didn’t suck for Tink because she wasn’t actually a part of those disgusting games but it did suck just a bit to be watching people she cared about fight for their lives. That sense of nausea was still there when she woke up and for a good bit she felt more than a little uneasy. But this was Swynlake and she was a native after all. She was used to it. So it didn’t take her long to pull herself together and make a few phone calls and send a few texts to check on the people she was close to in order to make sure they were okay.

Tod was one of those people and while his answer hadn’t been bad per say, there was still enough subtext for Tink to figure that he needed one of their epic friend date nights.

(Nevermind the fact that Tink didn’t enjoy being alone after strange Swynlake dreams and often used them as excuses to be close to people she cared about and could draw comfort from.)

Stocked with enough snacks for more than a few nights and an overnight bag, Tink made her way to Tod’s house and, as usual, entered without knocking. “Honey! I’m home,” she called out with a smile as she sat her bags down. Wandering further into the home, Tink easily made her way into the kitchen to start grabbing various bowls for all their goodies. “I hope you’re prepared for an epic night of movies, sweets, and cuddles.”

just winging it || fairy dust

@tink-bell
While he wasn’t necessarily…concerned, there was still a knot that broke up the smooth skin between his eyes, wrinkling up his nose as he cocked his head to the side, watching as she struggled to reach a strap.
It looked, on a quick glance, like a prototype. A very good one, for what was potentially a first version, but a prototype nonetheless. He recognized her, too, someone who he’d helped at Garden Grove a while back. Winston didn’t want to embarrass her or make her feel bad, not at all. But if she needed help, he didn’t mind offering it.
So, he stood back and waited, his hands folded in front of himself while she struggled and wriggled and tried desperately to get at the loops and wincing when it rubbed the wrong way against, what Winston thought, were her wings. He had no idea what it was like, having wings and then losing them, but he could imagine it was much like losing another limb.
He cleared his throat a second later and stepped back toward where he’d left his bag. “I think I might have something to, um, wrap around the parts that are rubbing, if you want? We can pin it.”

See? This was why it was a prototype. She hadn’t counted on the brace irritating what was left of her wings. It was something she’d have to figure out with the next one she made. But first she needed to make sure they worked. If she put them on and could get airborne then it the pain would be worth it and she would have everything she needed to move on to the next stage in her plan.

But that would mean accepting this man’s help and hadn’t she already said that she was fine? God, it was hard being independent and stubborn.

“What do you have? I just need it to last long enough to see if I can actually fly with these,” she was a little more gruff than she intended to be but wasn’t that something that could be helped. The prototype was bulky and difficult for her to put on in the first place. With it rubbing against the left over bits of her wings that were already super sensitive it just made her mood a little worse.

Birds of a Feather || Bae-Bell

It was… strange how Tink was able to find solace in the Hollow now. Maybe it had something to do with her getting a bit older or maybe, just maybe, she was calming down. It wasn’t something that plagued her much anymore. Not when there was so much work to be done.
Her wings at prom had been magnificent. They’d been a real conversation piece and she’d loved the feeling of them behind her. That slight weight that she’d always taken for granted had felt like she’d somehow come home to her own body. It was the same feeling as coming back to the Hollow after years away from it. Tink was a fairy; she was meant to have wings and meant to be apart of Hollow life (even if she still loved her life outside of the Hollow).
Part of that meant taking actual breaks, typically mandated by Fairy Mary, on days where she got entirely too absorbed in her work. Even as she stood in line her mind was working, figuring out calculations and different ways to achieve the results she wanted. In fact, she had been so engrossed in her thoughts that she only caught the end of the whispered question and the following answer.

Tink watched the exchange with mild fascination. It’d been some time since someone had actually stuck up for her within the Hollow. Most people either ignored it or said nothing. Fairy Mary and her parents were typically the only ones to actually speak up. But this boy... well, he surprised her, to say the least. “Eh, they aren’t too bad. Not the worst ones,” she shrugged. She’d definitely heard worse from other fairies.

At least that was what she wanted everyone to believe that it didn’t hurt her. Tink was used to being treated a lot differently than the other fairies. She was headstrong and a bit of a mess. Okay, more than a bit of a mess. Her inventions often left bigger messes than she intended but it was all in the name of helping the Hollow! Others just... didn’t see that. So she’d developed a thick skin over the years. Made sure that they thought their words didn’t hurt her. Even if they were like small chinks in her armor.

“But, thanks for helping chase ‘em off.” She smiled at the other fairy. “I’ve gotten pretty good at either scaring them myself or just ignoring them. I guess I owe you one.”

Tink was mid-reply when the popper went off and was quickly followed by the flash of the camera. Payback truly was a bitch. But it didn’t stop Tink from bursting out into laughter.
“Not even fair. I didn’t see you take the camera!” She continued to laugh as she reached for the picture so she could see it.
“Think we need to put these up for everyone to see. The incredibly photogenic Bell-Frostbrittle sisters at it again.”

“Thats the point!” Peri grinned shaking the picture once it came out to compare to the one Tink took of her. Both very different but you truly could see the resemblance between both of the girls.

“We could blow them up and make them the biggest on the wall.” Peri joked but then paused. “Or we blow up all the ones for people that work here. Their own spotlight.”

“Oooh,” she grinned as she stole the picture from Peri. Putting theI both on the bar top, Tink imagined where they could put them… “What if we made them like cut outs? Life-sized? Other people could use them to take pictures with. Have ‘em set up like little picture stations? Celebrate with your favorite Pixies employees!”

@tink-bell
If he had had any knowledge of the situation, Shere would have put a stop to his daughter’s meddlesome ways long ago. And, yet, he had been entirely unaware, at least until she’d brought him her phone one evening, a few months back, and told him that (and he is quoting here, mind,) “all these people want to fuck you, da, you should talk to some of ‘em.”
Needless to say, online dating websites and dating profiles were things he had no business being involved in. It had been a damn long time since he had, officially, been someone’s significant other, male or female, and Shere had been alright with that. Yes, sometimes he was lonely, but he had his daughter and he had a (scant) few friends. He would survive.
(Perhaps his hesitancy came from the long years of solitude, a way to protect his heart and the people he cared about. He had had his fair share of men and women who had claimed to care for him but had used him or who, if they ever discovered he was a magick, spat in his face. No, even in a Magick town like Swynlake, it was safer to exist in dating anonymity. Even if he occasionally craved the contact of another person, he was careful with what he did about such urges. It could only harm him in the end.)
It was later in the afternoon, bordering on evening, and Shere still found himself fiddling with his work, his own personal work, at a table in Hatter’s. Last-minute assignments had been graded and stacked neatly at his elbow and now he was putting the finishing touches on a few of the anatomical sketches he’d made of his newest gryphon hatchling, complete with eggshell and knobby, wobbly legs. They had certainly been a surprise, but the center had been delighted to have them, and they were fairing well alongside their mother, even if she was still a bit territorial.
In time, that would change or, at the very least, slacken.
His thumb smudging over the lines of a wing shadow, the Vaagh’s ears pricked at the sound of footsteps coming toward him. He thought it was Tiegan, perhaps off early from her shift at Remy’s, but when they drew closer, their scent hit. It was unfamiliar, but not hostile. Not unpleasant. His brows arched upward, surprise coloring his face as the blonde sat, and he racked his brain trying to remember if he had made an appointment that he had forgotten, somehow, with a potential graduate candidate.
It was unlikely, even if she spoke of keeping him.
Unwilling to be impolite, and curious at the intrusion, Shere offered her a small grin as he closed his sketch book and nudged everything to the side to make room. “It’s quite alright. I’ve not been here long. Would you, ah, like a coffee?”

In the presence of this absolute god, Tink was more than a bit flustered and speechless. Far away, yes, she’d been able to see that this man didn’t perfectly match the guy she’d been text flirting with for a few weeks now. But up close? Well, there were similar features and those eyes. She’d been surprised at how pretty they were in pictures but in person? Holy mother of pearl.

It was like she was drowning in one of the hidden pools of water in Enchantra. Far off the beaten path but there and gorgeous, the sun’s swirling reflection mixing with the reflections of the trees. All warm honey and flecks of green. It was... as close to calm as she could ever think to get. A paradise in her mind that was just there in this man’s eyes.

He spoke to her and instead of hearing words she focused on the cupid’s bow of his upper lip and imagined what the stubble there would feel like. Probably like heaven.

Was she that deprived of human affection and touch?

The short answer? Yes. Yes she was.

“I-- What?” She stuttered when she finally realized that he was waiting on her for something. Typical Tink Bell behavior when presented with something even mildly attractive. “Coffee. Yeah. Er, well no, not coffee. Too bitter. But tea. They have the best teas here. And you know if you tell them to surprise you, it’s never not good.”

“Yeah it looks good. I think we should get one of everyone being surprised with poppers.” Peri stated as she took the camera the popper already posed and ready to
POP
and with a quick snap the picture was taken as well.
“We could gang up on everyone pretty easily as they come in for their shifts?” Everyone might hate her but they would still love her in the end of it all. She hoped.

Tink was mid-reply when the popper went off and was quickly followed by the flash of the camera. Payback truly was a bitch. But it didn’t stop Tink from bursting out into laughter.

Nemo didn’t go to the dining halls by himself usually.

First of all, the Baes almost always ate in their own home. It was one of the things that had always made them Weird. But when Nemo was little, the dining halls had been nothing but rows and rows of staring, gawking eyes. Instead of expose Nemo to that, Appa protected him as best as he could, made him dinner or picked it up for him, and kept him safe (and unfortunately…alone. Maybe it wasn’t the best thing for him after all, but Nemo couldn’t blame Appa considering how often Nemo came home from his classes crying).

Nemo was all grown-up now though, and most of the Hollow was used to him, even if the staring still happened. So every now and then, he’d meet some of his fairy friends here, like Sled or Sindri and Olaf. Very very very rarely did he have a reason to be here alone.

Buuuut, he’d finished up some leftovers and Appa had work today, so he didn’t have any other choice. So here he was, standing in line for bread bowls and corn chowder soup. That’s when he heard it. A hissed remark behind Nemo, much louder than the pixie realized–

Peri was not expecting the glitter popper to be fired AT her. Usually she was in control of it but that was the point this year. Everyone who worked at Pixie’s would have their choice to glitter whoever they wanted. She would probably hand some out to her friends too that didn’t work here. All in good fun after all.
“Oh let me see.” Peri hopped over to watch the film develop and reaching around to get another popper as well. But she needed to get the camera too.

Tink couldn’t stop from laughing at Peri’s initial reaction to having the glitter popper fired at her. They hadn’t ever really had that type of relationship before. At least, they hadn’t had the chance to really develop one. There had been so much going on before. But now Tink could focus on the relationships she’d left behind. Something that filled her with the strongest desire to spend as much time as she could with Peri.

“It’s a good picture, I think,” she teased as she showed it to the other fairy. “And a brilliant idea, Per. I think everyone’s gonna get a kick outta this. Might be Pixie’s best Pride yet.”

Pride!

What a great time, it was one of Peri’s favourite months. Not just because this was the time that Peri and Dodger got together but she loved the Pride everyone had together. She loved the colours and she loved decorating for it.

Hence all the boxes on the tables. One that was dedicated to glitter poppers. A new edition to the well loved glitter canon. Other than that they had a bunch of fun drink toppers.Stickers, mini flags. New Uniforms that were colourful or had different flags on it whatever someone felt comfortable in wearing.

Peri even bought new polarid film for the best outfit contest. “What would you think of going around town and taking pictures so by the time the closing event happens we have a bunch of everyone in town?”

June was not only Pride month but it was also Tink’s birth month and what a better way to celebrate turning thirty twenty-eight, honestly? A giant party to celebrate every part of who she was that lasted all month? Yes, thank you universe for deciding that this was going to be a thing that happened. Being back at Pixie’s only made it feel even better. She was surrounded by people she loved in a town that she had missed. It was the the best way to spend her time.

Sitting amidst all the new things for Pixie’s, Tink felt giddy as she listened to her sister talk about the ideas she had for this year. Really brilliant ideas that were gonna make their not so little club stand out even more.

“Like little photoshoots throughout town. I love it,” she grinned as she picked up a glitter popper. Childishly, she aimed it just to the right of Peri’s shoulder and pulled the little chord. Instead of grabbing the Polaroid that was close by, she pulled her phone from her pocket and took a quick picture of the aftermath. “Think we could even take some like these. Get the whole fun aftermath of things.”

A Case of Mistaken Identity || Tiger Fairy

Dating websites were.... difficult. Like super difficult. It wasn’t easy like speed dating. No. There were whole personas that people put on; herself included. Why in the world would she let strangers on the internet know that it’d been far too long since she’d been single and she’d forgotten how dating worked? It was much easier to be flirty and fun with someone on the internet. But the thing about the internet? The other person could be that way too and there was no real way of knowing.

Unless, of course, you agreed to meet them in person.

Which is exactly what Tink agreed to. A stupid decision really as she wasn’t sure what she was getting into. She’d been too much for Sophie most of the time, too much for herself sometimes too. What if she was too much for this guy? A guy. She hadn’t dated a man in... well, years, honestly. It was a wild thought. But he was attractive and funny and they’d spent a couple of nights out of the week staying up way too late to talk.

So she’d put on her cut off shorts and tank-top (it was entirely too hot to be uncomfortable and sexy looking) and paired them with her favorite entirely too worn out trainers and headed to Hatter’s. Her nerves ate at her the entire way there. Multiple times she debated just turning around and going back to her’s and Peri’s flat. It would be easier. She couldn’t be disappointed there. But she needed this. Needed to get back on her feet, so to speak. There was no more time for pining over things that weren’t anymore.

With all that bravado and all her pep talks, she marched into Hatter’s; her eyes scanning the shoppe before she spotted a head of hair that looked familiar. “Sorry m’late, love,” she grinned as she slipped into the seat opposite him. It didn’t occur to her to look at the papers scattered slightly across the table or the fact that he looked a wee bit older than the guy she’d been talking to but... Well, at least it wasn’t a total catfish. “Hopefully I didn’t keep you waiting too long, yeah?”

just winging it || fairy dust

The thing about being your own boss was that you could work remotely. You could give yourself days off, too, but sometimes it was nice not to work in a cramped office in a suit and a tie. Winston was intent on getting work done and doing it outside, where the sun (while it wasn’t shining bright) was out and the park was quiet. He’d brought a blanket to sit on, his laptop, a notebook, his phone, and a decent attitude. Being outside meant he was in what he liked to call a happy place. It was where he felt most comfortable, most at home, and it started the day off with a nice ring to it.

 The man was just unfolding himself from his seat against a tree trunk, intending on walking around a bit and stretching his legs, when he caught a glimpse of a slight, blonde figure a bit of a way off, trying to reach for something at her back but not quite being able to do so. From this far away, Winston wasn’t able to see exactly what it was, but the gleam of metal made it look like a prosthetic of some kind, something like a back brace. The thought occurred to him that, maybe, just maybe, she’d want to be left alone. But, then, if it was something important, used for mobility’s sake, and she couldn’t get to whatever it was she was reaching for, it wouldn’t be useful to anyone.

SO, Winston chose to close his laptop and lock it, settling his bag and other gear against the tree trunk and make his way to where the blonde was at. A foot or so away, he stopped and called out to her, concern creasing his brow. “’scuse me! D’yah need some help? I, uh, couldn’t help but notice you over here. ‘s alright if you don’t but–” yeah, yeah that was definitely a prosthetic, looked to be attached to…a pair of wings? Oh. She was a pixie. “–if you just wanna be left alone, ‘s alright, too.”

Tink had a working prototype. She had a working prototype! To say she was excited was an understatement. The pixie was all but radiating her joy. It filled her up and left her feeling so light she felt as if she’d float even without the aid of her, well, aid! She had spent so many days and nights toiling over this project endlessly. Any free time she had in the Hollow was spent either studying various other pixies to see how their wings worked or meddling incessantly with the ones that were going to help her fly again. And now all of that had come down to this moment of truth.

If she could get this to work she’d be one step closer. One wing beat closer to flying again. To feeling more like herself again. It was all she had hoped for.

Except she in all her calculations, she hadn’t calculated how difficult it would be to get the bloody thing on by herself. How embarrassing would it be to have to ask another pixie if they could help her put her wings on? Too embarrassing. All too quickly she felt that joy begin to be replaced with agitation and anger; the feeling of it weighing her down and wiping away that lightness she’d felt only moments prior. It was just another obstacle to hold her back. To keep her from feeling the wind in her hair and that cool breeze in her face.

And of course, of course, someone had to come up and ask if she needed any help. Pfft. Of course she didn’t need help. She was perfectly fine. She had this all under control. All of it. “No. Course, m’fine! Just--- struggling along,” she huffed as she tried to reach behind herself to grab one of the straps she needed to adjust. “I’m fine,” she insisted with a slight wince as part of the brace rubbed against what was left of her wing roughly.
