NYF Task | Zombie Apocalypse AU

Age: 33
Affiliation: Hearts HQ
Position: Farmer
Peter has always been quiet, reserved, an introvert through and through. Nothing changed when the outbreak spread. It was easy to fall into the role of farmer, to experiment in the dark regions of Hearts HQ with all manner of things to try and supply his allies with enough food to sustain themselves.

Hallie had always taken it on herself to look after people, whatever that  entailed. It was something she’d picked from a young age, and the sense of family that the Hearts instilled only amplified that drive. And of course, it was so much easier than having people come to her and ask about her own problems, which seemed to be multiplying.
One of the people she always worried the most for was Peter. He’d always been so closed off, even moreso than most of the others, and he was still recovering from being shot, so she felt she had enough reason to worry about him, and all the time he seemed to spend at HQ gave her ample opportunities to check in. She hadn’t recently, though, distracted in the wake of the gala chaos, something she was determined to fix.
The door of the room he had claimed as his office was half open when she approached, Hallie rapping on it lightly before pushing it a little further open and peeking her head in, gentle. “I was thinking about getting some Chinese, did you want to come along? There’s a place down on 7th that I love, has the best egg rolls in town.”

Honestly, Peter wasn’t sure why he still came into HQ lately. There was nothing really do to, spending much of his time playing Ballz on his phone instead of interrogating.  They had reached a dead end with any leads with the Kings and with radio silence from their fearless leader, Peter felt almost superfluous to the entire organisation.

Glancing up at the sound of Hallie’s voice, Peter dropped his phone back to the desk. Almost afraid he had been sprung doing something he shouldn’t. But the woman wasn’t here to lecture him. Rather she was here to invite him to dinner? “I guess I have to eat.” He offered. Clearing his throat as he stood. “Your shadow coming?”

The best birthday gift that she’d received? A crutch-less existence! Hannah was once again free to jump and skip - well, that was an exaggeration - down the streets of New York, clicking away buildings and sights with more enthusiasm than an avid, wide-eyed tourist would. And did she plan on making the most of this opportunity? Yes, absolutely!
The, now, twenty five year old decided to visit St. Patrick’s Old Cathedral for some perspective photographs of the magnificent Gothic architecture. As she set her camera according to the desired specifications and took an angle, she realised there was someone blocking her view.

“Excuse me…” she began without looking away from the church, “could you please move slightly to the right, if you don’t mind?”

Peter had come here for a little solitude. Maybe even to gain some insight from some higher power. He definitely hadn’t come here to be bossed around by someone half his size with a camera almost bigger than her face pointed in his direction. “You could move around me.” He grumped, his hands firmly shoved in his pockets as he kicked at a stone by his foot. “I was here first.”

Alex: Should have figured. There's not a whole lot of sense to try and make.
Alex: Yeah, I'm okay, I guess. Got a little banged up but I'm still in one piece and don't have anymore bullet holes. What about you?
Peter: Still, I have to try. If I don't...
Peter: Same. Guess they went easy on me, considering the cane and stuff.
Peter: My mom called. She saw the news.

Alex: Hey. Thought I should check in after the shitshow that was that party. See how you're doing. Not just holing yourself up in your apartment, right?
Peter: Hi.
Peter: No.
Peter: Been holed up in my office, trying to make sense of everything.
Peter: Everything ok?

“Fucking fucks.” Ace muttered as he cupped a hand around the cigarette hanging out of his mouth so he could light it against the breeze, leaning against the wall outside the police station he had just emerged from. After getting the gash above his eye stitched he had been near hauled in to be questioned, dumbasses asking dumb questions that he had no intention of asking about the night of the gala.
He felt no inclination to protect those who had taken him captive, but that was his business and he handled his own without any need for badges and police officers. That just made more problems for himself. Taking a long drag, he took his phone out and checked it, grateful that he hadn’t had his burner on him when this whole mess had occurred.

The light from the cellphone illuminated the stranger that had stepped out of the police station. The smoke billowing out around him as he thumbed across the screen. Peter glanced in the stranger’s direction, frowning as he attempted to put a name to a face. It was what he had been doing in the minutes after he had been set free, watching and taking stock of just how long and how many people had been hauled in to find those accountable.

Clearing his throat, he shifted against the wall, the light shining off the cane a police officer had shoved in his hand. “My thoughts too.”

Darcy hesitated, blowing out a deep breath as she sighed and shook her head. “I’m sorry, it’s not…it’s not you,” she said finally, fidgeting with her feet as she kicked some rocks around. “It’s just been a long week, and there’s so much going on,” she explained, finally meeting his gaze. “David and I got stopped by one of the people that we think are with the Kings.”
Image
He waved off her apology, ready to simply dismiss the thought before Darcy started to explain. The words that had been on the tip of his tongue vanishing and replaced by a bone deep fear he hadn’t been able to shake off since the shooting. Swallowing, he glanced down at the cracked sidewalk beneath their feet. Blowing out a breath as he glanced back up at Darcy. “What did they want?”

An Unexpected Turn || David, Darcy & Peter

davidcheslyn:
David didn’t know how any of this was happening. He didn’t know what to do, what to say, how to move… how to /breathe/. All he knew was that the man standing opposite him, the man his girlfriend had become friends with, was the man responsible for the giant scar on his left hand.
At Darcy’s touch, David flinched, his mind somewhere else then back in the present in an instant. How did he explain? How did he talk? The tears came without control nor care, hot and thick, streaming down his face as he relived the worst three weeks of his life.
“I told you everything I knew. I told you and you let me go. What do you want from me? I told you what you needed to know!” He addressed Peter.
@d
Darcy was beyond confused, yet as she exchanged looks with each one of them, she knew there was something more going on. “Someone needs to tell me what the hell is going on,” she said, brown eyes glancing at David as tears spilled down his cheeks. Her focus turned to him completely, wiping at his eyes as she frowned and pulled his gaze to hers.
“Hey calm down, I’m right here okay?” she said softly, but stopped short when his words sunk in. Let me go. The words made her blood run cold, her entire body shifting to look at Peter.
“What is he talking about?” she said, her jaw clenching painfully tight. She wasn’t stupid, she could connect the dots. But she wanted to hear the words right from Peter’s mouth, this person that she’d confided in, that she’d trusted. She wanted to hear him say out loud that he’d been responsible for the broken man that stood behind her terrified of what might happen to him again. That Peter had taken part in the man that had been bloodied and damaged from head to toe just a few months ago.
@petxrmitchell

Peter winced at the words that David leveled in his direction. There was an anger and hurt behind everything he said. Someone else might have refuted his statements, argued with him. But Peter deserved every broken word sent in his direction. Mixed between David’s accusations was Darcy’s confused question.

“I...” He grew silent, fidgeting under the scrutiny of both Darcy and David as they stared at him like he was the enemy suddenly. He supposed he was. He was the one who worked for Sixes, he was the one who had maimed David in return for information that his boss had demanded from them both. “I don’t want anything from you. I’m sorry for what he did to you, for what they did to you. I tried to get you out earlier...” He had felt horrible for the horror that his boss and his fellow members had inflicted on David. He had given them everything and in return all he had got was more scars both inside and out.

It was only then that he glanced up at Darcy, the anger so evident on her face now that she knew exactly who the man she had called friend was. They had already gathered an audience and as Peter leaned heavily on his cane, all he could do was shrug apologetically. “I’m sorry.”

An Unexpected Turn || David, Darcy & Peter

davidcheslyn:
David nodded to Darcy’s question to getting drinks, sitting down in his chair, eyeing the empty one for a moment, wondering who this Peter was. He wasn’t jealous, just curious as to who he was. David had never really heard of Peter before.
When the man arrived, it took David a long moment to realise who was standing there, the same expression on his face that he had when his interrogation had taken place. In an instant, David was brought back to that moment: the questioning, the nail…. the /pain/. He shot to his feet, knocking his chair onto its back. The chair clattered to the floor loudly, attracting attention, but David didn’t care. He was filled with panic, heart thudding. Bile rose in his throat, burning. David stumbled back, his eyes wide in fear as he looked at Peter.
“No,” he whispered, “no, no, no…. not you. What are you doing here?” David wished he could run but the fear kept him grounded in his nightmare.
Darcy took a seat next to David, holding a hand up for the bartender so they could order their drinks. When they were set down in front of them, she spotted Peter come through the door, offering a smile as he made his way over to them.
The moment Peter came into David’s line of sight, she could tell that something was wrong, she just couldn’t put her finger on what it was. “What’s wrong?” she asked quickly, glancing between the two of them. Something was off, she could see it in both of their faces, her brow creasing as a serious look crossed her, any sense of joy wiped away.
“David, what’s wrong?” she asked as she touched his face gently. “What’s going on?”
@petxrmitchell

That silent part of him that had hoped David wouldn’t recognise him withered in the moment David stumbled from his seat. He froze in place as David worked through his panic, his whispers met with a downcast glance towards the table. Darcy moved from her chair, trying to coax David to calm down but Peter knew there was nothing that could change this monumental mistake.

Clearing his throat, Peter glanced to the other patrons who were looking in their direction before back to the couple. “I can go.”

An Unexpected Turn || David, Darcy & Peter

davidcheslyn:
When Darcy suggested that David tag along to her lunch ‘date’ with her friend Peter, he was more than apprehensive. He didn’t know who the guy was (much less why he was having dinner with his girlfriend), but he told himself to stop being the jealous type and come along. This was what relationships were all about, meeting your other half’s friends. Just because Davids entire life revolved around the Diamonds which meant he knew no one outside it, didn’t mean it was the same for Darcy. Evidently it wasn’t.
So he put on a clean shirt and went as casual as he allowed himself with a pair of smart jeans, telling himself that a tie probably wasn’t the best thing to finish off his outfit, and went to meet Darcy outside the restaurant. He was getting used to going out more, being sociable with his girlfriend and having the occasional personal display of affection. It seemed Darcy was bringing him out of his shell and he was beginning to relax, even after everything had happened to him. David kept his sleeves rolled down, not wanting to draw attention to the hideous six of hearts scar he was going to wear for the rest of his life. He didn’t want her friend to start questioning things like that.
David turned to go inside, holding the door open for Darcy.
“What time did you say we were going to meet him again?” He asked.
Darcy knew that eventually Peter and David would meet, and she’d rather be the catalyst in that potentially annoying situation. She knew David wasn’t the jealous type, but the fact that she spent a lot of her time with another guy was probably annoying at best. As she pulled on a pair of jeans and a loose white v-neck, she thought about all the potential scenarios, desperately hoping the two of them would get along considering one was the man she loved and the other was one of her best friends.
Once she was dressed, brunette locks tousled in loose curls, Darcy slipped on a simple gray cardigan that hung loose on her slender frame, the bottom hitting just above her knees. It didn’t take long to get to the restaurant they’d picked out, smile growing when she spotted her boyfriend from across the street. “Well if it isn’t my favorite man,” she teased playfully, slipping her hand in his as he opened the door for her.
“He should be here any minute,” Darcy responded as they were led to their seats, the brunette leaning up to kiss his cheek gently. “Do you want to get drinks or something while we wait?”
Image
When Darcy had suggested meeting her boyfriend, he had almost balked at the idea. There was no way it would end well once David realised who he was. But maybe he would be lucky and the man wouldn’t remember the person who had shoved a nail into his palm. He should have cancelled. He should have mad up some excuse, but he owed this to Darcy. She was one of the only people he considered a friend.

Limping into the restaurant he made his way to the table on wobbly legs. Offering a sheepish shrug to Darcy as he stood beside the table. “Sorry I’m late. I ugh... don’t get around as quick as I used to.”

Text - Christian/Peter

Christian: Yes.
Christian: If you're trying to talk me out of taking you to dinner it's not going to work.
Peter: Just saying, its probably easier considering.
Peter: Plus you'll get to park closer.
