the dialogue in that part tho was like. the vibe it gives is it seems like hes never seen hannyas pre mods face? which of cours he must have at some point. flashback is messy. but cute. do i love it or hate it. idk.

it was cute

but imo it was way off timeline wise

things previously established in the manga:

-misao remembers hannya and the rest always being around since she became aoshis ward

-this happened when misao was about 4-5

-aoshi would be 15

-that would mark hannya joining the oniwabanshu at about 12 at the latest

--which makes sense in that he could learn kempo well enough to

-teach misao kempo (misao specifies that it was hannya who taught her and looked after her the most)

however, the flashback seems to be at around the time they left kyoto, judging by how they look. which puts aoshi at about 18, and hannya at about 15. the dialogue seems to indicate he's just joined, which makes no sense regarding the things misao says in the manga. not only that but it makes no sense either that he would cut his face off AFTER theyve been dismissed from serving the shogun. which would have happened when hannya was 13 or so. he looks like an adult in the flashback. like what is the point of doing that if theyve already been fired and have no jobs?

the flashback imo would have been better if aoshi had looked younger, though i understand why they didnt want to bother to come up with new character desings. STILL

i also get that their age difference maybe made it diffcult to believe that aoshi had taught him, but imo its easier to just go "15 year old aoshi picked him up and ofc as okashira he was capable of having a disciple" than retcon so many things misao says lmao.
