Tumblr has killed the artist

I’ve come back after being logged off for a while and I see almost every artist on here either having a locked account or dealing with post bans every second even if it’s not nsfw -_- talk about a Marxist website. Tumblr and it’s @staff should re-evaluate their decision instead of rushing it in order to please google and the “offended” minority 🤢 most of tumblr’s community (artists and the smart individual thinkers) are leaving and some are laughing at what a joke this is

Please don’t fucking log off tumblr on the 17th as a protest. All that’s going to do is give tumblr more reason to shut this place down because of revenue loss.

Oh shit, I didn’t think about that,

CHANGE OF PLANS EVERYBODY,  SPAM STAFF AND SUPPORT AND EVERY OTHER CONTACT WITH YOUR COMPLAINTS ON THIS DAY OF UNLAWFUL AND PLAIN STUPID THINGS BEING CALLED INAPPROPRIATE, WE CAN PROTEST AND STILL KEEP THIS SITE TOGETHER, I HAVE NO IDEA IF WHAT IM SAYING IS A GOOD THING AND HONESTLY FUCK. THIS SITE IS FUCKED. WE ARE ALL UNGODLYLYLYLY SCREWED.

DO NOT LOG OFF THATS HOW WE LOST OTHER FANDOMS

LOGGING OFF ON THE 17TH IS ALL BUT GUARANTEED TO BE PERFECTLY SAFE TO DO, IT WON’T GET THE SITE KILLED OFF.

They’re not gonna shut down the site over one day of dipped traffic. ESPECIALLY since they basically want to sell us to advertisers and they want to keep us as users to do that. Protests, when organized, are ways of getting sites to listen to you. Even if they ignore us, they’re not going to just close up shop overnight because of one day of protesting.

If anything, using the site more heavily will potentially encourage their bullshit because it sends the message that they can do whatever they want and we’ll still use their site thus they can do anything to sell us to advertisers and it won’t drive us away.

IM SO CONFUSED WHAT DO I DO

Whatever you feel best doing–it likely won’t make a huge difference either way because there isnt a coordinated boycott effort.

December 17th - a rescue plan

Some good news, I’ve been talking to two developers now and got them working together, we just had a meeting with the guys behind an existing large (millions of users) site similar to Tumblr, with a vibrant and open-minded community, and more importantly, it has open-minded owners who believe in free speech. They think we can get something done here to rescue the whole community.

I’m not allowed to reveal the site name yet. I can tell you it’s mainstream, open to everyone, open-minded and welcoming. (It’s not WordPress or any site owned by Facebook or Twitter. It’s not Pillowfort, that’s in closed beta. It’s not Ello, that’s mainly for artists. It’s not kinkspace or fetlife, those are too specialist. It’s not jux, that seems to be closed. It’s not Soup, that seems still in development and too small.)

One of the reasons for delaying the announcement for next few days is they don’t want a “land grab” where people take the names of current popular Tumblr users over there (cyber squatting). So they are looking at ways for existing Tumblr users to keep the same names on the new site.

More info over the days to come.

The plan is, broadly:

1. By December 9th, announcement of the new site and how to secure your username there

2. By December 10th, an online tool for bloggers to copy their existing content to the new site automatically, with the same tags and captions.

3. Bloggers will need to copy their content across between December 10th and December 17th if they want to use the automatic tool.

4. My understanding is that after December 17th there will be no public access to any “flagged” posts on Tumblr, but the original poster will still be able to see the flagged post (for a short time at least). Therefore, the original poster may still be able to manually download a post to their own PC or phone, after December 17th, and manually upload it to the other site. But if you have lots of posts that will take a long time, it will be better to use the automatic tool before December 17th.

Please understand that these dates are approximate and may change for technical or other reasons.

There may be a few rough edges or not so perfect looking site design on the transfer tool. Everyone is doing their best. The main goal here is to help as many people as possible preserve access to their content, in the short space of time Tumblr has allowed us, and preserve as much as possible of the Tumblr community spirit somewhere new.

The new site will cater for photo, GIF, text and html posts. It will not offer video and audio posts, due to cost reasons - maybe in future, but for now you will need to preserve video and audio content yourself in some other place.

If your Tumblr blog has a mixture of original content and reblogs, or all reblogs, all of that can be copied over to the new site. Reblogs will become “your” original content if nobody else posted them yet, otherwise they will be shown as reblogs. The devs are looking at ways to preserve attribution of reblogs back to the original Tumblr poster, if that person also moves to the new site.

Important: your Likes cannot be copied from Tumblr to the new site. You will have to go find the same posts again on the new site, and like them afresh.

(Similarly, existing reblog comments, asks, messages and other user interaction on Tumblr cannot be copied to the new site - that’s just too much to do, in the short time available.)

If you want to preserve any of your existing Liked posts on Tumblr, you will need to either: (1) download the post to your own PC, or: (2A) reblog it now to your own Tumblr blog, and then (2B) use the automatic tool, before December 17th, to move your whole Tumblr blog across to the new site.

If you have Liked a lot of posts here on Tumblr, the gridllr.com webapp should be able to help you do steps 1 and 2A quickly, I mean download or reblog.

(Someone complained to me today about the appearance of Gridllr on a phone. It’s best to use Gridllr on a PC, Mac or Tablet with a large screen.)

If you have liked a post here on Tumblr and the original poster decides to delete it, or even to delete their entire blog, some time before December 17th, then that post will be permanently lost. So if you want to be sure to preserve any of your Liked posts, you should best download or reblog as soon as possible. If it’s reblogged to your own blog it is safe from deletion, at least for next few days.

Obviously, you will lose access, after December 17th, to all past posts you have liked, if Tumblr has flagged them as NSFW. Again, the steps (1), or (2A) and (2B) covered above will be the only way to hold on to these posts.

Now this is intriguing.

Updates to Tumblr’s Community Guidelines

Today we announced some big updates to our Community Guidelines and what kind of content is permitted on Tumblr. Adult content will no longer be allowed here. While we do not judge anyone for their desire to post, engage with, or view this stuff, it is time for us to change our relationship with it.

We expect you may have some questions on how this will affect you, and we’re here to make sure those questions get answered.

When does the new policy take effect?

Our new Community Guidelines will go into effect on December 17, 2018.

Newly uploaded content flagged as adult will no longer be allowed on Tumblr. We’ll also begin flagging and removing existing adult content with the ultimate goal of removing as much of it as we can.

What is considered adult content?

Adult content primarily includes photos, videos, or GIFs that show real-life human genitals or female-presenting nipples, and any content—including photos, videos, GIFs and illustrations—that depicts sex acts.

What is still permitted?

Examples of exceptions that are still permitted are exposed female-presenting nipples in connection with breastfeeding, birth or after-birth moments, and health-related situations, such as post-mastectomy or gender confirmation surgery. Written content such as erotica, nudity related to political or newsworthy speech, and nudity found in art, such as sculptures and illustrations, are also stuff that can be freely posted on Tumblr.

This is uneducated bullshit.

This policy was written by a stack of marmosets in a suit, that convinced everyone in the tumblr offices that they were the CEO of The World. It attributes breastfeeding and medical presentations of nipples as equated to sex. Then, they define what’s appropriate art, which apparently excludes photography. They’re also removing the tools that do work, in favor of draconian conspiring with Apple.

I’m now reconsidering my move to tumblr. First it’s this, then it’s that, and of course, anything else not considered clean think;

BECAUSE THINK OF THE CHILDREN!

Fuck, why not prevent children from getting on tumblr? Why not enforce the self-regulating adult content system? Those posts that are nude, not marked adult content by bot or by human, get warnings or nukes. Why not deal with the bigger issues lurking elsewhere, below the radar?

I could care less. If I want to look at art, and it includes artistic nude photos, that’s my business. I don’t equate tumblr to a porn site. If I posted nude photos, I’d make sure it was behind an “adult only” marker. I’m responsible for myself. You are responsible for those who aren’t. You should nail those who are irresponsible.

Butt fucking everyone isn’t the answer!

Yes, you will lose users. You’ll lose a lot of them. Google Plus had a similar problem when they did the same thing, and it never recovered. That’s why they’re shutting down. Twitter has backed off their own draconian antics, and they also have seen a drop in userbase. Go do your research and you’ll see.

I’m now conducting research to move to another solution. No, I don’t post or reblog nude content. Yes, I write adult scenes. I’m a supporter of Constitutional Rights. Rights you’re infringing.

On the perspective of limits of speech, they’re well documented in cases heard by the Supreme Court. As a public housing provider, which is what tumblr is, you have right to prohibit illegal content.

ART AND PORN ARE NOT DESIGNATED ILLEGAL CONTENT!

Child porn and hate speech, promotion and support of violence is illegal. Furthermore, you’re not a content provider. Your users are. And while yes, you’re not a porn site, you’re also not morality police.

It’s women’s nipples, that’s the problem. A continuation of the war on women, as men can display their nipples. A conclusion that nudity implies sex. That women require permission to display their body, just makes it evermore a justification that women are too sexual to be presented as art. But then, let’s face it, men can’t control themselves, so clearly it’s a woman’s fault…

This isn’t about protecting children from seeing a naked body. This is about censorship. This is about corporatism. This is about redefining morality. It’s about power, control, and alleviating people of their personal responsibility. No, it’s about stealing their responsibility, and convincing them that you know how to protect them from the world.

That isn’t your responsibility. There’s a difference between what you can do to your own employees and what you can do to the public you serve. If they don’t like it, they’ll hop out and go elsewhere. If we need to, we’ll make a new place. All you’re doing is blasting Moonbase Alpha out of orbit.

You could have implemented features and tools, and avoid a blanket ban that’s patently unconstitutional and unconventional. It’s the decision to use a 100 megaton nuke to take out a bunch of flies. Again, you had the tools and the right direction.

You just got scared by Apple. You’re letting Apple dictate to you what they believe you should do. And nothing you’re doing is thought through. It’s reactionary. It’s insulting. It’s the kind of sophomoric, draconian, black and white, childish logic I’ve come to expect from Jedi.

I’ll bet nsfw art falls under this no nsfw rule I’m guessing? Yeah ok. This site will die out soon from this now

ME: What’s next after destroying your users freedom of expression but hiding it as a ploy to stop nsfw to make it feel safer for snowflakes?

Wholesome and badass

The father’s artistic talent is clearly on display here, but I’m actually really impressed with this kid’s wild imagination. Many of his drawings are both conceptually unique and coherent.

You are going to ruin the community on here if you continue to censor everyone. If you want to make tumblr more user safe, add blacklists so people can avoid seeing nsfw content.

Making it so artists and the sort cannot post nsfw will pretty much cause you to lose a huge chunk of your community and I don’t think you want that. Even artists who DON’T draw nsfw are leaving, because they feel threatened and stifled from your constant authoritarian updates both this one and some in the past.

I understand you guys want to improve tumblr, whatever your agenda is chasing users away isn’t the solution

A better, more positive Tumblr

Since its founding in 2007, Tumblr has always been a place for wide open, creative self-expression at the heart of community and culture. To borrow from our founder David Karp, we’re proud to have inspired a generation of artists, writers, creators, curators, and crusaders to redefine our culture and to help empower individuality.

Over the past several months, and inspired by our storied past, we’ve given serious thought to who we want to be to our community moving forward and have been hard at work laying the foundation for a better Tumblr. We’ve realized that in order to continue to fulfill our promise and place in culture, especially as it evolves, we must change. Some of that change began with fostering more constructive dialogue among our community members. Today, we’re taking another step by no longer allowing adult content, including explicit sexual content and nudity (with some exceptions).

Let’s first be unequivocal about something that should not be confused with today’s policy change: posting anything that is harmful to minors, including child pornography, is abhorrent and has no place in our community. We’ve always had and always will have a zero tolerance policy for this type of content. To this end, we continuously invest in the enforcement of this policy, including industry-standard machine monitoring, a growing team of human moderators, and user tools that make it easy to report abuse. We also closely partner with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children and the Internet Watch Foundation, two invaluable organizations at the forefront of protecting our children from abuse, and through these partnerships we report violations of this policy to law enforcement authorities. We can never prevent all bad actors from attempting to abuse our platform, but we make it our highest priority to keep the community as safe as possible.

So what is changing?

Posts that contain adult content will no longer be allowed on Tumblr, and we’ve updated our Community Guidelines to reflect this policy change. We recognize Tumblr is also a place to speak freely about topics like art, sex positivity, your relationships, your sexuality, and your personal journey. We want to make sure that we continue to foster this type of diversity of expression in the community, so our new policy strives to strike a balance.

Why are we doing this?

It is our continued, humble aspiration that Tumblr be a safe place for creative expression, self-discovery, and a deep sense of community. As Tumblr continues to grow and evolve, and our understanding of our impact on our world becomes clearer, we have a responsibility to consider that impact across different age groups, demographics, cultures, and mindsets. We spent considerable time weighing the pros and cons of expression in the community that includes adult content. In doing so, it became clear that without this content we have the opportunity to create a place where more people feel comfortable expressing themselves.

Bottom line: There are no shortage of sites on the internet that feature adult content. We will leave it to them and focus our efforts on creating the most welcoming environment possible for our community.

So what’s next?

Starting December 17, 2018, we will begin enforcing this new policy. Community members with content that is no longer permitted on Tumblr will get a heads up from us in advance and steps they can take to appeal or preserve their content outside the community if they so choose. All changes won’t happen overnight as something of this complexity takes time.

Another thing, filtering this type of content versus say, a political protest with nudity or the statue of David, is not simple at scale. We’re relying on automated tools to identify adult content and humans to help train and keep our systems in check. We know there will be mistakes, but we’ve done our best to create and enforce a policy that acknowledges the breadth of expression we see in the community.

Most importantly, we’re going to be as transparent as possible with you about the decisions we’re making and resources available to you, including more detailed information, product enhancements, and more content moderators to interface directly with the community and content.

Like you, we love Tumblr and what it’s come to mean for millions of people around the world. Our actions are out of love and hope for our community. We won’t always get this right, especially in the beginning, but we are determined to make your experience a positive one.

Jeff D’Onofrio CEO

This is against freedom of expression and censorship. This is NOT ok and the people of tumblr won’t stand by and watch

Holy shit. Nah dude look up the entire story, it’s INSANE.

The dude got arrested once before this for using a painter’s extension rod to point the stoplight cameras into the sky instead of cutting the wires. He didn’t cut the wires until AFTER he got out after being arrested the first time–which he did after posting facebook videos that prove that the stoplights are intentionally rigged to trick drivers into citations–the yellow lights at intersections with cameras only last THREE SECONDS, as opposed to the five seconds they last at other stoplights without cameras in the same county.

When he cut the camera cords, he reported his deeds to the news -himself,- and then politicians pressured the local police force into arresting him. The local police and sheriff deputies actually SUPPORT him for his actions because the lights have been killing innocent people! During his most recent arrest, one of the Sheriff’s Deputies actually -offered to bail him out-. When he got home again after these incidents, there was a surveillance camera planted at his house BY THE GOVERNMENT to watch him! His reaction to being surveilled? He painted over the camera in America’s flat out fucking ballsiest “fuck you” to the gubmint I’ve ever heard of. And it gets EVEN CRAZIER. After painting over the camera, suddenly this guy–his name is Stephen Ruth by the way–started GETTING ATTEMPTS ON HIS LIFE. He reports that a car intentionally tried to hit him in a head-on collision, and after talking about the car to his neighbors, they confirmed that the car in question (Or at least, one that was visibly identical, its occupants included) had been staking out his house! Somebody was legitimately trying to MURDER HIM over his discovery and his actions!

As a final insult to injury, Ruth pointed out that the VAST majority of the cameras were found SPECIFICALLY in lower-to-middle-class neighborhoods. As well, the victims of these rigged stoplights tried to go to the local news station to talk about the deaths of their family members that occurred from the rigging. Aaaand… The local station, “News12″, never aired their interviews. Remember how I said that, after cutting the cables and calling the local news station, Ruth was arrested because of pressure from politicians? Get this: News12 is actually owned by CableVision, who PROVIDES INTERNET SERVICE TO THE CAMERAS.  Whereas mister Ruth was only trying to help people and save lives, he’s been caught up in a full-blown fucking government conspiracy that’s out for his blood. This guy isn’t Robin Hood, he makes Robin Hood look like a -CHUMP-.

This guy is a true hero and a person we should all protect and protest for his safety!!! The government should NOT be allowed to quiet us because they WORK FOR US!!!!!!

i just bawled my eyes out and it feels like i just got the biggest hug to my soul. thank you thank you thank you. it is sacred and it is SAFE the poster will not tell anyone even what state this is in, only thats this is in USA. even if you are not indigenous i hope this lifts your spirits and comforts you.

This is beautiful
