Iโ€™ve been on tumblr for almost 13 years and I refuse to know what homestuck is about

The thing that amazes me is that I've been on tumblr for ages and dashboard osmosis has conveyed absolutely nothing to me about Homestuck whatsoever.

There are whole episodes of Supernatural that I've seen in their entirety through gifsets. I don't even know what sort of a thing Homestuck is or where I would find it. I know less about what happens in Homestuck, which presumably actually exists, than what happens in Goncharov, which doesn't.

I spend hours every day on tumblr. I don't know how this is possible.

one time my friend had surgery on her hip/knee and we went to visit her in the hospital and she was like โ€œhey guys, check out what i have! itโ€™s this cool button that, when I press it, it gives me more morphine!โ€ and sure enough she had a little tube with one end attached to her IV or whatever and one end with a button on it, and every time she pushed the button it gave her morphine

and she just kept pressing it and pressing it and giggling and getting loopier and loopier, so we went to ask a nurse if that was OK or if she was just going to overdose herself

and the nurse said that the morphine button is on a self timer limit and she had already maxed it out and wonโ€™t be able to get more for a few more hours, but she can just press the button as many times as she wants and thanks to her already being on the max dose of morphine she was just placebo effect-ing herself into the fucking stratosphere

it was a great image, my friend over there high as balls like I HAVE UNLIMITED MORPHINE POWER!!!! *press press press press* and the nurse like โ€œnah that button isnโ€™t doing shit but sheโ€™s having funโ€

thereโ€™s a website where you put in two musicians/artists and it makes a playlist that slowly transitions from one musicianโ€™s style of music to the otherโ€™s

lady gaga -> napalm death takes a weird detour through epic rap battles of history

This is actually really useful for finding music thatโ€™s in between genres that I wouldnโ€™t know to look for.

This has nothing to do with books but itโ€™s COOL

I feel like this could be useful for trying to slowly pull yourself away from your depression music to something more uplifting without it being jarringโ€ฆ

People against piracy fail to realize that no, I canโ€™t just โ€˜buy it.โ€™ They stopped making DVDs and Blu-Rays. Theyโ€™re barely offering digital copies for download. I am not spending money I could use for food or bills to pay for a subscription service just so I can always have access to a beloved piece of media. Especially not when the service will remove media on a whim without concern for how the loss of access to that piece will make its artistic conservation nigh impossible.

For example, I recently learned that Disney+ had an original film called Crater. Itโ€™s scifi, family friendly, and seems cool - I would love to buy it as a holiday gift for my little brother! But: itโ€™s exclusive to D+ and THEY REMOVED IT LITERALLY MONTHS AFTER ITS RELEASE.

The ONLY way I can directly access this film is through piracy. The ONLY available โ€˜copiesโ€™ of this film are hosted on piracy websites. Disney will NEVER release it in theaters, or as something to buy, and it may NEVER return to the streaming service. It will be LOST because we arenโ€™t allowed to purchase it for personal viewing. If I canโ€™t pay to own it, I wonโ€™t pay for the privilege of losing it when corporate decides to put it in a vault.

So yes, Iโ€™m going to pirate and support piracy.

Addendum: This is also a really good reason to support trust-busting. A lot of this obnoxious behavior is only possible because corporations wield monopoly power.

another addendum: most modern (4K UHD) blurays use a form of online DRM that requires the player software to access a server to get title specific decryption keys. you don't really own a film on one of those disks any more than you do on streaming, the only way to truly preserve it is to rip off the disks or from streaming, not even the physical media you can "buy" can necessarily be preserved anymore.

PIRACY ALWAYS HAS BEEN AND ALWAYS WILL BE MEDIA PRESERVATION

Fun History Fact: The overwhelming majority of cowboys in the U.S. were Indigenous, Black, and/or Mexican persons. The omnipresent white cowboy is a Hollywood studio concoction meant to uphold the mythology of white masculinity.

Thank you.

I will always re-blog this

I think it was high school when i overheard some white girl put on her best semi-disgusted and confused voice and go โ€œwhy do so many Mexicans dress up like cowboys?โ€ and I had to be the person to tell her.

Why do you think the whites say buckero? Cause they couldnโ€™t say vaquero.

I dunno if I reblogged this before but fuck it, y'all gon learn today.

Teach the children.

also, cowboy culture was hella gay. like, write-poems-about-your-cowboy-partner gay.

IF people acknowledge it, they play the necessity cardโ€“ there werenโ€™t any women out on the range, so they had to โ€œresort to men.โ€ this claim completely erases 1) the romantic (not just sexual) writings of actual cowboys, 2) the acknowledgement of cowboysโ€™ potential homosexual activity by writers at the time, and 3) the possibility that some men would deliberately become cowboys with the intent to seek out homosexual encounters.

no one wants to admit it, but cowboy culture was just. so inherently gay.

Im here for the gay POC cowboys

Supposedly, at dances with a higher number of men than women (or no women), men in the mid/late 1800s US west would signify their willingness to take the womanโ€™s role in a dance by tying a bandana around their upper arm.

Do with that information what you will.
