Some people are just born to fight, I think. It’s not that they’re born brave. It’s not that they’re born strong. It’s just that the universe has decided that this one, this one will have grit and fire and steel in their blood. And it’ll be tested, this cosmic mettle of theirs. They’ll face trial after trial, be broken and damaged in countless ways. But this one was born to fight. Maybe it’s not the life they would have chosen. Maybe they’d love to lay down their arms. But they were born to fight. It’s what they know. It’s what they do best. It’s all they can do.

Another skirmish with a demon battalion, perhaps one that Demise had sent as a scout- and Hylia had managed to dispatch it quickly without needing to send the knights. It bought her valuable time, but some of her wounds risked becoming infected with malice. To purify herself, she decided to bathe under the waterfalls of the Skyview Spring, the divine waters healing her wounds and making her stronger.

As the water washed over her body, soaking her dress, her scales began to show underneath her skin, glowing with a radiant light. Her ears transformed into wing shapes; her nails formed into claws. A tail faded into view from her back, curling around her body; horns appeared from her head, pointed and regal. And most impressive of them all, grand, sturdy wings emerged from her shoulders, sparkling from the droplets of water. Her body was very much still human-like, but the healing process revealed the draconic power that rested within her, in the form of the Crest of Nayru.

Footsteps echoed behind her, and although Hylia did hear them, she did not attempt to hide her form from the visitor. For she knew that this was Link, her Chosen Hero, the one mortal she trusted most in all the world. Surely, he would understand the power required of a Goddess to protect her people.

So she turned to face Link, a relaxed expression on her face atop faded scaly skin. “It’s alright, Link… you may come closer,” her voice echoed, sweet and inviting. “I promise you are not interrupting anything. In truth… I have wanted you to see me like this for quite some time.”

Once Link heard that Her Grace- Hylia- had just been in a brief altercation with a demon battalion- He couldn’t resist the urge to assure himself that the goddess was fine (was that truly it?). In his mind, it felt rather silly to be checking up on the goddess in such a way- Hylia was powerful, surely such a small battle wouldn’t cause her harm.

Nonetheless, there was an unexplainable dread that curled in the back of mind; unable to settle until he’s spoken with her, at the very least.

After asking Lady Impa where Her Grace may be, the knight quickly made his way towards Skyview Springs. Though as he approached, Link stopped in his tracks as he saw Hylia- granted he’d be more embarrassed about interrupting her when she was clearly using the waterfall to cleanse herself after the last battle- but he only felt a mixture of surprise and awe. Perhaps he would’ve had a sliver of fear, knowing what Hylia could do, except Link trusted her entirely.

Logically, she’d have more than one form, considering how the three goddesses were represented as dragons in numerous tales- But that didn’t stop the knight from being slightly blindsided with this information. Any feelings of dread and worries simply… Washed away as he gaped at Hylia.

   (she was breathtaking)

For a brief moment, the knight considered to turn around and leave, as this was clearly a private moment he shouldn’t be privy to. Yet, as he peered at her striking wings, how they sparkled, Link merely froze, unable to force his legs into action as Hylia turned towards him. Running away was no longer an option as their eyes met.

   (he was speechless)

She… Didn’t seem displeased with him, even if a part of the knight felt as if he was intruding. Though she had invited him to come closer, he couldn’t manage a verbal affirmative, just a slow nod as Link attempted to find himself and his voice (because silently staring at her horns, wings, and tail would’ve been rude, even though she’s awe-inspiring).

As he quietly approached, Link took a deep breath and smoothed his expression, willing any nerves he had away as he looked up at her. With Hylia standing there, welcoming, kind, and oh so powerful, Link was at a loss of what to say in response.

There was plenty he could say. Link admittedly felt pleased that Hylia was willing to show him a glimpse at her draconic power- despite knowing that some may feel afraid if not threatened (but he only felt safe, even if he was a bit tongue tied). Though, it only took a few moments to find something to say, because that would be better than silence.

“Nonetheless, I apologize for intruding,” he responded, voice unsure as he briefly bowed his head, “... But, I am glad to see you.”   Whether that was a reference to seeing that she was okay from the recent skirmish or her more draconic side, the answer was yes

Getting Old: Would your muse rather live 50 years loved, or 200 years alone?

Fear-Themed Headcanon Questions

“Living long never real held the luster the stories and myths always gave it. Not as a slight to those who are immortal or simply live longer than the average Hylian- The appeal simply doesn’t apply.” He paused for a moment, pondering on how to continue. “I became a knight knowing I may die young, it wasn’t the plan nor the goal, but a mere possibility to be aware of.”

It’s why he was quite pleased when Orville chose to become a Master Blacksmith rather than search the land for trouble like Link did. On paper Link was a scout, but he wasn’t one to stay out of trouble when it came calling. Nonetheless, that was before he was offered the title of hero, years before the start of the Demon War.

“I’d rather live 50 years loved. While there’s only a select few I’d considering my family- I can’t imagine being without them. With my oath to protect this land that I love and the people who reside here, 200 years alone simply isn’t an option I’d consider if possible.”
