Y'all for real though! Last week I was helping a neighbor with 4 foster kittens (3ish weeks) and I immediately named one Astarion. He was the escape artist, he was way too fast when he did escape his playpen, his little kitten daggers destroyed my hands, and all he wanted was to bite anything he could (mostly me). Also, he always had something to say (as in he screamed nonstop). He wanted to be held, but as soon as he was picked up he would scream louder, but if you put him down he also screamed louder.

A.I. photos are flooding social media and contributing to an Internet where we can't believe what we see. Spotting A.I. 📷s is an important media literacy skill.

None of us have time to research every image we see. We just need people to notice BEFORE THEY LIKE OR SHARE that an image might be fake. If unsure, check it or don't share.

I've started drawing some comics explaining the basic of AI spot-checking and media literacy in the age of disinformation. Follow along here or on my Twitter.

i honestly dont get why people stopped reblogging things they like on here bc like what are you afraid of??? people thinking youre cringey?? guess what bitch! youre on tumblr! it’s all cringey! reblog everything you like and do it shamelessly no one fuckin cares

people stopped reblogging things because it is a lot easier to like things than to reblog them on mobile, and that’s what the majority of people use. It’s a design flaw not the users fault

idk if most people are aware of this, but if you hold the reblog button down you can literally just swipe to the icon of the blog you want it to reblog to. it‘s quick and easy

I just reblogged this for a second timr. Wrote this note, too. On mobile. Took seconds. No biggie.

oh shit, it never occurred to me that people might be unaware of this!

i only have this one blog so for me a like is almost always an instant reblog

I know there’s other posts out there but I wanted to make a comprehensive post about being completely inclusive when writing reader inserts. Everyone has their own perspective and ideas so I wanted to share my thoughts and tips that I use myself when I’m writing. Of course I most likely forgot things as well so feel free to add on if you think of something I missed and I’ll add it to the list here!

Quicke note before we get to it: if you spot something on this list that you’ve done before, don’t beat yourself up about it. We all slip up and make mistakes. Just learn from it and keep it in mind for the future! As readers, we understand that it’s near impossible to include every single individual that could possibly read your work, but the point is to be as inclusive as possible with your writing.

Under a cut for length and to make sure you always see the most updated list when you click on it! Reblogs are very much appreciated too, especially if you’re a writer so we can all learn and grow and be better!

Reblogging Question

Okay, I gotta ask because my brain is special and kinda an asshole. I want to be a better tumblr user and actually reblog shit, but my brain screams in pain because it doesn't want random (but very awesome and amazing) content on my fanfic blog. Soooo would it be weird to make a secondary blog for reblogs? Like idk, I've been on tumblr for years and I still really don't know shit....

TL;DR is it cool to make a sideblog for the sole purpose of reblogging cool stuff?

hi guys! my old fanfic account (lokiedokiee-fanfic) got purged by reasons only known to this hellsite (unaffectionate) and i lost all my old fics which i'm gutted about:(

this is going to be my new fic account; it's a work in progress but submissions are open! i used to write pretty exclusively for loki but i'm happy to write for any marvel characters (within reason)

“fandoms are dying”

yeah well here’s a cool idea: start creating and start reblogging. leave nice comments to your favorite creators. send them prompts. start interacting with others. sounds wild, right? start it today. keep these fandoms alive.

I appreciate the optismism of “build it and they will come” but i think the true frustration behind “fandoms are dying” is a multi layered problem that making more content will not fix because:

a) puritanism, bullying, purging of content, and antis are on the rise. especially of nsfw art.

“But i don’t want nsfw art” you say. “I only want pure, good art/fic thats full of happy puppies and kitties”. tough tits. you cant nurture creativity in a fandom thats constantly gatekeeping. thats how you get “dead fandoms”.

b) giant corporations are co opting fandoms in an attempt to make [even more] money. this feeds back into point a (of course disney doesn’t want queer/adult content, they’re advertisers/investors would disapprove) and therefore antis feel more empowered to bully and harrass.

c) the circle of social media platforms in which it is “safe” to post your nsfw content has basically zeroed down to twitter. even patreon will ban your art if its the wrong fictional ship [i know, it’s happened to me]. maybe there’s more leeway for writing like ao3 or tumblr, but we all know this site died after the nsfw purge and is making it even harder to get exposure after the latest round of banned hashtags and everybody from sfw artists to gif and graphic editors suffer from no audience and a lack of engagement [remember what i said about gatekeeping killing creativity?]

Now lets say you DO post your nsfw slash art on twitter. Its basically the wild west. Anybody can find you, attack you, bully/harrass you and, again, because of points b + c these harassers all think they have a right to do so.

SO. “Make more content for your fandom” is a nice sentiment except there’s nowhere to post, no one to like it, and everybody is so goddamned scared of death threats and being cancelled they either don’t make the content to begin with or people don’t reblog/share because “what if the creator is secretly a bad person and i didnt know it and now other people think im a bad person”.

Fandoms are dead because the water is toxic. Dropping more stuff into the water won’t help. You gotta clean up the water first if you want creativity to thrive.

Holy shit, this is so true. And it’s a travesty.

This does seem true. I think there’s also an element that most fandom members are consumers of the modern type; to wit: they scroll mindlessly, intake content, and pass by it untouched in favor of the next brief hit of serotonin. There’s no sense of community engagement, which is the bulk of what OP (hi OP, nice post you have here) was getting at.

Yes, people creating is nice, but in any space there will be a *vanishingly* small percentage of people who are actually doing work – the other 98% of the group is there to witness it. Which is fine, and normal. What is less fine is that the 98% is just… sitting there. Like the fics and art and good gifsets and meta writing (the stuff that makes a fandom a *fandom* instead of just a bunch of people consuming a text) are all made by faceless streaming companies, produced exclusively for the 98%’s enjoyment and then easily discarded. It’s an understandable attitude, especially in these days of grimy fake-friendly corporations and everyone being Depressed, but it’s not one that’s actually conducive to creators wanting to create. And then you don’t have a fandom – you have a few diehards still doggedly making their thing because they really love it, and seven people (if you’re lucky) interacting with it at all, and the rest is just… a faceless, indifferent audience out in the dark, who don’t react at all.

It sucks.

We’ve also lost most static public places for fandom discussion. Tumblr is ephemeral, Discord servers are private or at least require knowing the server even exists to join it, AO3 is a great place to host fic but isn’t the ideal platform for discourse and general geekery, LJ is dead.

This last bit is the thing for me. I do not know how to actually participate in fandom anymore, so my MO is to read a bunch of fic, reblog some gifs and move on. Unless you already have a community of people and they go on the ride with you, it is monumentally hard to find one anymore.

Hard agree with the “but where do we even go to talk about fandom now?” feeling. Also, I like @zmediaoutlet‘s addition, because I think it’s very true, but I also agree with the take that it’s not exactly the fault of the people doing that kind of silent consume-and-discard thing - this is how our media and our social media has been training us for years now. This isn’t a “shame on you for not interacting” problem, it’s a “how the heck do we rebuild spaces where interaction is expected and encouraged and fun and doesn’t result in getting abused off the internet because you dared to like something Problematic” problem.

We need to bring proper internet forums back. They don’t solve all the problems but they sure do help with the interactivity one.

Forums and LJ also provided “fences” so to speak so that you could share what you liked/wanted with other like minded individuals without everyone seeing everything and giving ppl the chance to bully/shame. Fences make good neighbors. Being able to friends lock your journal and choose what posts were public and what were just for like minded friends was a gift. Forums were a gift. We lost those and lost the ability to really share and interact openly like we want to without fear of being shamed and bullied and doxxed bc you like a certain fictional ship or sth🤦‍♀️

Hey y'all, guess who's back on her bullshit? Me! What do I mean by this you might ask. Well, I've gained a new fictional love that has rapidly become one of my favorite characters ever. That being said, I've been unable to work on any of my other WIPs because I'm too focused on a new one!

Avatar

Y'all I just need to say this... Thank you! I have struggled so hard these last few years to keep my love for writing alive. I started to hate everything I wrote and it was just awful. I'm finally starting to feel human again after all this time and that means getting back to writing. After finishing up these last few WIPs I posted, I was nervous to post them because I didn't think they were all that great. But the love you've all shown me has been incredible. It has made me realize that people actually do like the stuff I post and that makes me happy. So yeah, thank you.

Sorrows, Storms, and... Silverware?

A/N: Here is the next part of the Domestic(ish) Life series. This one is a little sad like some of my more recent works because what I write reflects my mood and this was written when I was in a really rough spot and wished I had my boys to comfort me. It's not great, I feel like it's all over the place, but I hope maybe others who have felt this way might find a bit of comfort from it...
