Do you write music with the view of being politically active and delivering a message or does it just happen and the rest follows?

ALL THINGS ARE INTERCONNECTED SO DEEPLY SO AS TO BE IMPOSSIBLE TO DILENIATE IN ANY MEANINGFUL MEANNER. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO INTERACT WITH THESE CONNECTIONS BUT THAT DOESNT MEAN THEY DO NOT EXIST

i'm so sick of being the only person who can make simple connections of how doing a thing to the ecosystem has effects. so so so so sick NO ONE knows the ways of the plants

sorry just venting over how i am so so so small and the task is so so so big

This year, I had a balcony garden.

I wanted to last year but I 'never got round to it'. I kill a lot of plants (not on purpose. ADHD and constant watering is hard, and sometimes it's just me confused as fuck about why I suddenly have x thing happening to my leaves) and kind of felt it was hopeless anyway.

Then I was reading your posts, and how you were seeing biodiversity in even small little hopeful changes. And I was like. Hey. Even if I do kill the plants. They will feed insects for a little, while they survive, and after, I can put them in my compost pile and they will feed more insects, and the flowers (if I get any) will feed bees (which are my special children) and so, even if it doesn't give me food, and even if they die, it might be worth it to try.

I never ate the cilantro. Turns out my flatmate has the soap gene. But it flowered like CRAZY and there were SO many happy pollinators.

I ate so many green onion shoots. The bulbs I still haven't pulled because they just keep giving me shoots to eat.

The mint is going HAM and also the insects loved the flowers.

The cucumber plants went absolutely APESHIT and produced flowers ALL SUMMER, and they were BEAUTIFUL, and I couldn't walk outside without a bee or, occasionally, a butterfly dropping by. It's STILL FLOWERING in NOVEMBER in PHILLY and now I have ladybugs and fireflies. FIREFLIES! I didn't see a single one last year and now they love my balcony and I love them so much. I only got two cucumbers but I don't even care.

I had a bunch of nonedibles in a little greenhouse thing, and they flowered too, and I'd find random bugs (a grasshopper. Huge. Massive) in there hanging out. They died when the greenhouse got blown over but they lasted longer than I ever expected to keep a plant alive.

The birds came by my balcony despite the cat avidly watching them by the window. More types of birds, too. And my little compost box is constantly happy with fruit flies and regular flies and things I don't recognize. I never did get around to buying worms, but I haven't had to because the insects are having a blast in there and every time I think "oh, it'll be full" it is, once again, not full because it has been broken down further.

There is a tiny ecosystem on my 6th floor apartment balcony because you get excited about plants, and it was inspiring enough to get me off my ass. Because even if I didn't eat my plants, you reminded me SOMETHING ELSE WOULD.

The task is so so big. But if my fruit flies can eat an entire watermelon (yes. There was an entire watermelon in my compost bin at one point), I think you and I can tackle this watermelon together.

...Oh...Sheds a single tear that contains so much happiness

😳 <- this emoji but without the blush or romantic connotation. im not blushing im staring you directly in your fucking eyes

if you excuse the bad editing it would look like this

can we hit 150k before this piece of shits one year anniversary

u know before yellow emojis took over as automatic, the one we used for this exactly was O_O . which has unfortunately become the shortcut for the stupid blushy one. but we also used to emphasize the emotion by making the mouth bigger, O_________O . there was also o_O , for when you're weirded out, and o_o for small weirds or intrigue. you could use a period instead of an underscore for the mouth, o.o, O.O, which was a little more like shock.

there was also -_- for when you're annoyed. -_-* for pissed. the asterisk is a forehead vein. a very bad day or very bad joke could result in -___________-********** .

anyway that's your history lesson for the day, dont forget your roots.

let us also not forget the meekest of them all: ._.

There's also >_< (annoyed/frustrated) and ~_~ (at a loss for words/overwhelmed but resigned). ^_^ (happy) but ^___^ is impishly pleased with oneself/being a brat and the wider the mouth, the more of a loving pest one is being.

*_* is starry-eyed or dazzled. >_> <_< are sneaky eyes. ×_× are dead/slain eyes. c_c was usually something along the lines of "I am looking Respectfully."

;_; or q_q are crying (which is where the old "qq" for "cry more" comes from). ;o; is wailing while crying, a sort of "nooooooo!" response.

We had a whole range of text emojis, heh.

Here's a useless thought my head just supplied me with that I absolutely can't use.

Co-op game where if one player sees another, they die.

Both die? Just the one who does the seeing? Just the one who is seen? All players or just one crucial character? Do reflections count?

"Don't turn around. I'm right behind you. I'm going to put the mcguffin down behind you and go around the corner, I'll tell you when it's safe to turn around; let me know when you're looking away again."

Yes this, I love this idea

have realized that while i am not a fan necessarily of "people meet and immediately fall in love" i am a fan of "people meet and are immediately obsessed with each other." the love can come later but the absolute fixation should be immediate

the whole guilt-tripping language in posts about important topics paired with how I'm still getting bitches in my notes talking about why it's actually good to tell "bad" people to kill themselves continues to prove to me that a lot of people have absolutely no concept of social justice or activism outside of assuming the worst of and then viciously attacking strangers on the internet

like I think a lot of people get "making the world a better place through activism" confused with "find out exactly who it is okay for me to be cruel to" despite the fact that those two are very much NOT the same thing

i am about to bestow upon you the secret butter technique. i am sorry, but it is french. i am sorry again, this only works with cow butter. i am certain plant based butters wouldn’t work, and alternative animal butters may or may not work

has this ever been you: you have a nicely steamed vegetable, or maybe you want to make the best butter noodles, but you know that if you put butter on those it’ll just melt and you end with kind of greasy noodles or vegetables? don’t you wish it was instead a luscious buttery glaze?

introducing: beurre monté

you will take a small sauce pan, and begin heating it with 1-2 tablespoons of water (use very little water) and bring it to a hard simmer or boil

turn the heat down slightly, and add Butter. how much? however much you dare. (start with 3-4 tablespoons and go from there)

you are going to either whisk Aggressively or you can pick up the saucepan, still holding it over the heat, and swirl aggressively so the butter is skating around the sides of the pan

done correctly, you will have liquid butter that is still emulsified. you have made Butter Sauce. season it with a little salt, and toss whatever you want in it.

if you’re butter splits, i’m sorry. you didn’t agitate it enough to maintain the emulsion, and now you have melted butter.

you can use this knowledge to make other sauces by swapping out the water for another liquid. white wine becomes beurre blanc. red wine is beurre rogue.

you want to CUM? sweat minced shallot in a tiny bit of butter, add white wine and cook it out until it’s reduced by about half. then whisk butter in hard. a few flecks of minced thyme or fennel frond stirred thru, and you eat that with a nice seared fish? or scallop? or even shrimp? wow. you will Nut

your boxed mac and cheese game can also be elevated by cooking your pasta and making a beurre monté first, tossing your pasta in that and adding the cheese packet. wow. hey; you’ll cum

go forth now with this butter secret

five notes?? this is why i don’t tell you all anything

CONTROVERSIAL OPINION ABOUT BISEXUALITY

that purple in the middle is not the right saturation, it doesn't fit with the other two colors and it drives me crazy.

all right, I think I got this, I've got dual citizenship and I have another flag we can borrow from:

step 1

step 2

step 3

This is true bi/ace solidarity.

  1. swapped purple in bisexual and asexual flags for better saturation matching and color theory

Spring is known as a time for planting bulbs, but it’s important to remember that bulbs often have a higher concentration of nutrients than leaves or flowers, meaning they can be more dangerous for your pet. When organising your garden, don’t forget to make sure that your pet can’t get their paws on any bulbs that you may be planting.

Lots of different species of bulbs can be poisonous, so keep them in areas your pet can’t access – or avoid them completely. If you do decide to plant bulbs, it’s a good idea to cover them with mesh until they’re growing to prevent any curious paws from digging them up!

Plants to avoid:

  • Azalea/Rhododendron (Rhododendron sp): Also present in summer, autumn and winter.
  • Crocuses (Crocus sp)
  • Daffodil (Narcissus sp)
  • Cotoneaster (Cotoneaster sp): Also present in summer, autumn and winter.
  • Giant Hogweed (Heracleum mantegazzianum): Also present in summer and autumn.
  • Geranium (Pelargonium sp)
  • Heavenly Bamboo (Nandina domestica): Also present in summer, autumn and winter.
  • Holly (Ilex sp): Also present in summer, autumn and winter
  • Horse Chestnut (Aesculus hippocastanum): Also present in summer, autumn and winter.
  • Hyacinth (Hyacinthus orientalis)
  • Iris and Gladiola (Iridaceae)
  • Ivy (Hedera): Also present in summer, autumn and winter.
  • Laburnum (Cytisus alpinus): Also present in summer and autumn.
  • Laurel including Cherry Laurel (Prunus laurocerasus) and other laurels: Also present in summer, autumn and winter.
  • Mistletoe (Viscum album): Also present in summer, autumn and winter.
  • Oak (Quercus pedunculata): Also present in summer, autumn and winter.
  • Onions and Garlic plants (Allium sp): All parts of the plant, especially the bulbs, can be toxic. Also present in summer and autumn.
  • Ragwort (Senecio jacobaea): Also present in summer and autumn.
  • Rhubarb (Rheum rhabarbarum): Also present in summer.
  • Rowan (Sorbus aucuparia): Also present in summer, autumn and winter.
  • Snowdrops (Galanthus sp): Also present in winter
  • Tulip (Tulipa sp)
  • Yew (Taxus baccata and related species): Also present in summer, autumn and winter.

As spring is also a time when many of us trim our hedges, make sure you’re careful to clear up any cut branches and leaves as some hedgerow plants (such as Cherry Laurel) can be dangerous.
