Diversity makes stories better, plain and simple. This year, we’ve partnered with the good folks at Writing With Color to get some advice on how to write stories populated with people of all racial and ethnic backgrounds. In the third part of her “Do’s of Writing People of Color” sub-series, founder Colette Aburime talks about how to recover when you make mistakes:
So you’re gearing up to write some exciting, diverse stories. With all that research under the belt, your sights are set on getting it right. It’s a good mindset to have and absolutely do your best! Still, expect to overlook or misrepresent some aspects of your Characters of Color.
Maybe you included a universally accepted no-no, such as comparing a Person of Color’s skin color to food instead of more favorable words for skin tone. It could be nuances missed by not being in the group. Perhaps it’s something more subjective that some have an issue with, but others don’t mind.

For the .0001 person here who reads my fanfics I’d like to first say thank you!
Secondly, Woojin...it is very sad to see him leave Stray Kids. There’s ton of speculations - my own brain has created worst case scenarios as well. But let’s hope that in the long run this is what’s best for him. Let’s accept this with love rather than pain and support all 9 even if they aren’t on the same stage.
Thirdly...writing...so as the .0001 of you know, I have written (and love writing) SKz stuff - mostly focusing on Jisung. I’ll continue. That being said, I typically write real world alt spinoff things dealing with an event or moment...and I’m not sure if Wooj will always be included going forward...I’m not sure I’m good enough to create that. I’m not sure it’d be in his best interest. Or in Stays. I’m not sure it’d be coherent all the time...I’m just not sure...he exists in everything I write and will continue to do so, as he’s a part of their story and always will be. And he’ll certainly be in stories written about before-completely original, uninspired by real life fics-but it’s hard.
It was hard with my baby Tao, and it’ll be hard with Woojin... I’m not even sure why I’m posting this. Maybe I feel the need to justify both his existence in and absence from future fics? Or maybe I just wanna to put out there that Woojin deserves happiness in all its forms. Regardless, for now that’s where that stands.

He could barely breathe but forced himself to count the seats between him and the nearest exit, forced himself to memorize the distance between himself and that kid David, forced himself to make a count of other passengers nearby that might need help; the older man and elderly lady a few rows back, the mother and her small baby, and the group of kids around David."
Jisung had been hoping for a smooth ride - just a normal flight from Korea to Cali, and a nice reunion with his members. He wasn't anticipating spending any of that time on the ocean...
