Sarah knows she’s pretty. She’s got rich dark skin, thick hair, eyes like jewels. If she’s wearing yellow or white, any guy who likes dark-skinned women will stop and have something to say. Brothers who don’t like dark…well, that’s their loss. She’s got some ways to turn a man’s head, but it isn’t like that’s that difficult a thing to do.
All this together means she’s not actually that surprised by Bucky’s attention at the beginning. She sees what they have in common and knows she has a way of cocking her hip that makes men lose their vowels for a second. Plus she can cook. Yeah, men want to come around.
It isn’t the first look that surprises her. Or even the second one. It is the third look.
It is the dancing, respectful but all the hotter for it. The fact that he always asks her if she needs something when he goes into the kitchen. It is the way he drops his eyes like he’s bowing to her. It is the way he listens to her, even when she’s not saying anything important. It is the way he compliments her, gracious and sincere: “My God, Kitten, you look stunning.”
She’s not vain but, Lord Above, if she could hear that every day for the rest of her life she’d be okay.

Part of getting older is realizing how absolutely insane it is that basically every form of media is constantly trying to convince us that the most interesting moments of the lived human experience are happening in HIGH SCHOOL…… girl who gives a flying fuck what 16 year olds are doing.

Sarah Wilson and James “Bucky” Barnes are both college professors.
He teaches Political Science and Labor Law on one side of the sprawling campus. On the other side, she teaches Mechanical Engineering and she’s also a Faculty Advisor for a study group in African-American Literature with an emphasis on Black Women authors.
People never guess the two of them are Professors because the misconception is that “Professor” means Old White Man.
Without fail, at the beginning of the school year, some undergrad who didn’t know would try to flirt, thinking maybe she was one of them, until they found out that she was actually one of their teachers.
“Well,” her friends would laugh, “you know what they say!”
“Yeah girl. Even we can’t tell how old we really are!”
Once she wore a head wrap, which sparked a rumor that she was West African royalty. A princess studying in America. Even when she was wearing an LSU t-shirt and jeans, many people believed it.
And as for him? Fellow members of the Law Faculty call him “Professor GQ”.
“How can someone who looks like that be serious?” one of them grumbles, watching him walk across the campus mall.
“Yeah! He’s just wearing jeans, a t-shirt, motorcycle boots and a sport jacket. A sport jacket! Who looks hot in a sport jacket?!”
“Professor Barnes. That’s who,” Professor Daniels drawled, then proceeded to drain her water bottle after he walked by.
(Gulping down his water, Dr. Trudeau agreed.)

I’ve looked through Tumblr’s “Help” center and it’s absolutely not helpful, so here goes.
When I come across the “More Posts Like This” section at the bottom of a post, when I click on the little squares that are links to other posts, nothing happens anymore.
Not even if the link is to something of mine.
Anybody know what’s going on? Do I need to delete the app and reload it?

Turning away, he let her grieve.
He had wept, too. He still remembered what happened during his own Awakening.
He too had mourned his own death.
She begins to learn about her status, and her new life.
Barnes steps into a new role as well.

Sarah was sitting on the edge of the bed when she felt Barnes approach the entrance to the loft’s sleeping area. She quickly stood and backed away.
“May I come in?”
His voice was low, just above a whisper, but he saw her clenched fists, and the flinch when he spoke. Her eyes were dazed, darting around the room as if she was searching for—trying to locate—something.
He felt her distress before he crossed the loft from the kitchen to the far corner of the living space.
[Dammit to Hell. I have to fix this situation.]
There was no way he couldn’t feel her. He was her Maker. She was in the process of Becoming, was fighting it, and for her, right now all of it was too much. For both of them.
She wasn’t panting, but her breathing was quick. He could hear it.
Because of his advanced age, he could shut out extraneous sensations at will, but he didn’t want to shut her out. He wanted to feel her, but he didn’t want her to be in pain. And he had to get her to feed before making her feed against her will.
It had been easy while she was semiconscious and in the initial stages of the transformation. He would lie with her, and while holding her, slit a vein open at his wrist. She would latch onto him, drink for a few minutes, and slip back into darkness.
The third time, hearing the soft noises she made as she fed almost lulled him into a deep, peaceful sleep with her, but before he drifted off, he caught himself and quickly left the bed, spending the rest of the night in the living room, looking out the window, listening to the City. And listening to her.
All in all, it seemed like her transition from Mortal to Vampire would be relatively smooth.
Then she fully awakened, and for the past 48 hours, getting her to willingly feed again had been an uphill battle. An understatement if there ever was one.
He’d tried several times to convince her to feed. He even told her, in unflinching, no-words-or-feelings-spared detail, the consequences of her not fully feeding. The terror and agony, the madness. But she didn't care. She wasn't going to drink anybody's blood.
Especially not his.
That's when he decided to have the Associates make a stop on the way back to the safe house.
