Search and Rescue emails

When I first broke my ankle I sent personal emails to the search and rescue team thanking them. I got this message back from the first firefighter on the scene!

Hey Leslie! Sorry for the late reply but insta blocked your message. I am glad to hear you are on the road to recovery. If your ever back in the area training shoot me a message and we can get together for a run. -Cody

I will take him up on that offer eventually!

Newest fashion accessory for this runner girl? A boot! Cast off, and stitches out.

No weight bearing for another 2 weeks, but it's an UPGRADE from the cast.

Best care package ever! One of my running buddies/sole sisters sent me this epic care package last night.

I LOVE the shirt...Bionic Ankle Club Aftermarket parts! 🤣 The Coloring book is fantastic. Filled with inspirational quotes with cuss words.

11 more days in this cast. I get re-xrayed, and re-casted for another 2-3 weeks. Hopefully I'll be in a walking boot the 2nd week in December.

Last Saturday I was visiting a friend in Canada. We went on a gorgeous trail run. I slipped on some snow, fell in a hole and heard my ankle snap.

Canadian search and rescue had to hike in and find me, then hike 2.5 hours out of the difficult terrain. At the ER I was told that my ankle was broken in 3 places. They casted me up to my thigh and sent me home with my friend.

The following morning she drove me back across the Canadian border where my hubs picked me up. We went to the ER close to my house to get an orthopedic surgery consult.

Yesterday I was pieced back together! 9 screws in my ankle. I have a long road to recovery, but the surgeon says I'll be able to run again eventually.

I'm trying to remain positive. I have 2 BIG races scheduled for 2019, 24 hr race in May and a 50 miler in October. I'm still planning to do these races. It will be my motivation.

This episode is just a bump in the road!

Yesterday I ran a 5K. Due to a course Marshall sending us the wrong way, the race turned into 4.75 mile race. I pushed as hard as I could and while this picture is not that flattering I'm proud of what I accomplished. This is the fastest I've run since my injury in August. When I had hit the official 5K mark on my watch, I was around 10:45 pace. I ended up slowing down but finished strong.

Oh hello pace, so glad to see you've picked up!! Ive been running 13-13:30 miles for the last 2 months. Today I ran at 11:22 pace. I have friends that say "Run slower to run faster!" Today I did push a bit but I felt strong. Run happy...
