Summary: Omega learns she has an allergy
“Hunter! Look at what I found on the ground!” He turned to the sound of her voice in the market. She was grinning up at him from where he was paying for a crate of fruits. She held up a couple of credits, grinning as if she had just found buried treasure.
Stil, Hunter smiled at her, playing into her excitement. “Very nice. Why don’t you get yourself something?” He offered, gesturing to the rest of the market.
“Okay!” She answered, starting to look around for something she wanted to buy.
Hunter trailed along behind her, both keeping an eye on the easily distracted girl and whatever else he wanted to buy.
“Woah,” Omega softly gasped, holding up a large fruit of some sort. Hunter looked up as well, and he also gasped. Though, more out of urgency than wonder as he rushed towards her and grabbed the fruit from her hand, abandoning his crate of food. “Hey!” He heard Omega complain as he set it back down where she had found it. He sighed.
“Anything but that,” he said, lifting up the crate of fruit again.
Omega slowly followed him, looking very confused. “Why not? It looked good,” she said, looking up at him. Hunter was actually surprised she didn’t know. He figured she would be one to know about the one flaw in the Kaminoan Cloning Project. How it happened, Hunter wasn’t quite sure. He knew Jango Fett was deathly allergic to the fruit, but he figured the scientists were able to edit it out of the DNA. Heck, they could do all sorts of things with their DNA. But, for whatever season they all had one allergy.
“It’s a star fruit. You’re allergic to it,” he explained as he walked through the market.
“How do you know? I’ve never had it!” Omega asked incredulously, looking up at Hunter with more confused eyes than before. Though, a lady holding a plate of chocolate-covered strawberries caught her attention. Hunter watched as she ran up to her, gave her the coins, and took two of the strawberries. She ran back to him, holding up one to offer as she ate the other one.
“Thanks, kid, but I’m all set,” he smiled, feeling his heart swell at her kind gesture. Hunter couldn’t take from her though. She shrugged, finishing the first strawberry and starting on the next one.
“So, how do you know I’m allergic?” She asked again.
“Because I’m allergic,” he explained, hoping to get through to her that the clones all shared the same allergy to star fruits.
“So? Just because you’re allergic doesn’t mean-“
“Omega, we’re clones. If I’m allergic you’re allergic. All clones are allergic to star fruit!” He stopped walking, not believing that this extremely smart kid was not grasping the concept of the clones and allergies. He would definitely need a nap later, he thought to himself as his brain worked to try to get her to understand.
Omega’s mouth formed a circle as she let out a quiet and drawn out “ohhhh.”
“Well, that’s not fair,” Omega sighed, the message seeming to finally get through. Hunter let out a chuckle, holding the box with one arm and using the other to ruffle her hair.
“I know, kid. Maybe ask Tech about it later, I bet he’ll be able to explain it in a more scientific way,” Hunter offered as they made their way back to the ship.
Omega perked up a bit after that, looking happier as she walked. Hunter smiled and shook his head: this kid really was something.
