Luc walked up to the Nurse Joy situated behind the counter, and after an exchange of friendly greetings, handed over three of her pokeballs. Sweeping a stray strand of hair out of her eyes, Luc glanced around the room as she made her way over to the screen station, preparing to call her family, keeping the promise to let them know how she was doing after every gym battle. The Orange Island gyms were... Strange to say the least. Her eyes fell on a young man with a Shiny Luxray. -Luc Feldsmith-

Jason sit near one of the corners of the Center. A book in his lap and his head tilted downward. His finger glides softly against the pages of the book, it’s raised dots are words.

“Lux, I forget, did I already heal you guys..?” The young man places a bookmark in the page and moves to rest his hand on the back of his Pokemon.

Jason is one of few that can understand Pokemon, he was born with the ability and uses it to his advantage. His Luxray responds with a yes before laying its head on it’s front paws.

“Sinnoh. But I was raised from about 4 to 7 in Johto. What about you? Where are you from?”

“Well, if my starter wasn’t evidence enough, I’m from Hoenn.” Luc laughed slightly.

“I’ve been meaning to try and get to Hoenn. I wanna get around to beating the league. I wanna be a Pokemon master after all, and I’m heading close.”

“You can become champion everywhere except Hoenn.” Luc quipped. “I’d like to at least be champion somewhere, especially since you seem to claim the titles so fast.”

“What, are you scared I’m going to kick your ass again? And my dream is to get every title. And I mean every title, I even have my trip to Alola booked for next week. I’m taking on the trials there.”

Luc glared at him and took a step closer. “Frankly, I don’t care if you keep beating my ass. That’s just more practice I get for beating you. And if you want all the titles, be my guest and chase after them. But if you even step on to Hoenn’s victory road I will personally ship you back to Sinnoh.” She said, her relatively friendly tone mixed with one of full seriousness.

“How about this. I’ll do the elite four, but I won’t challenge you, you can keep your title and I can still say I beat the elite four. Sound fair?”

Jason says without looking near Luc.

Luc paused for a second, thinking. “Fine.” She finally conceded. “I will beat you some day though.”

“Sure cupcake. I’ll let you keep believing that.” Jason smirks.

Luc scoffed. “Just you wait.” She said, walking over to him. “So.. The Shinx? I don’t quite know where your family breeding center is.” Luc teased.

“It’s back in Sinnoh. But once we get back to the center, I can call my mom and have her send one over. And the only I have in mind is one that I breeded myself. That’s the easiest thing to do.”

"Uh. If you want to go visit your family, we can just go pick up the Shinx? That is, if you wouldn't mind me tagging along with you."

Jason lay in the bright white and overly clean room. Loud beeps from his heart rate moniter signal that he’s still currently alive, even in this overly malnourished form.

His hand scoots over to where his phone sits on the nightstand near him. He slides to unlock his phone.

“Message Luc.” He pauses while he waits for the phone to respond.

“Stop texting me. It’s not worth it in the long run.” Jason speaks into the mic and waits for the massage to be re-read to him, and hearing that it’s the same. He sends the text.

Luc woke up immediately from the nap she had apparently fallen into as her phone went off in her pocket. Pulling her phone out, she blinked at the bright screen and reached for the set of glasses she kept by the bed. Sliding them on, it took her a full second to realize who it was. Unlocking the phone with a swipe, Luc sent back a reply.

[Jason!] [Are you alright? What’s wrong, what did you mean?] -Just Now

If He could see, he would be staring down at the phone in his hands. Tears beginning to well in his unfocused night green eyes.

Jason takes a deep breath. His voice is more than unsteady as he speaks, but luckily the modified phone can understand what he says.

[No Luc. I’m not fine. And it’s better you just forget me and our time in-game together.] - Delivered Just Now

Luc glanced back at the phone in confusion as it buzzed again. "What?" She said to herself as she stood up.

[Jason, I can't do that. How could I possibly do that?] [What can I do?]

“Sounds good to me. You lead and Lux will follow.” Jason pats Lux’s shoulder.

The group moved through town and passed out of the limits, arriving at the training area. “Okay, champion. What are your rules.”

Jason discounts the shiny Luxray. He walks with a hand on Lux’s shoulder to one end of the old battle field. The large pokemon lays down at his feet as Jason crosses his arms.

“No potions, no revives. We faint like men. Yell when your ready.”

Luc walked to the other side of the battlefield.

“I’m ready.” She called, pulling a Pokeball off of her bag.

“Good. Let’s go.” Jason holds a pokeball containing Gallade, the green and white pokemon pops out of the ball.

“Good luck.”

Luc tossed the pokeball, and Scolipede emerged, the large purple centipede uncurling onto the field.

“Use sludge bomb!”

Lux stands proudly, his fur still extremely electrified from multiple attacks. The last Pokemon of Luc’s team falls.

“Lux, return. You deserve a rest,” Jason calls to his pokemon before focusing on Luc.

“Not bad. Your down 400. Lets get back to the city so we can heal. And so I can call my mom for the Shinx.”

“Amos, return.” Luc said, holding out her pokeball for the Mamoswine to return to. Glancing up at Jason, she grinned. “That sounds good.”

Jason places his hand on Lux’s shoulder.

“Lead on.”

As they walked back towards town, Luc turned towards Jason.

"Where are you from?"

“Probably. And knowing Raikou and I, the other two would have a bound with someone else, and I wouldn’t want to talk them away from there people.”

“That would make sense. But I guess the chances of meeting them would be pretty slim. The other marked people I mean.”

Jason rides in silence for a few moments, for he is unsure what to say. He attempts to switch the conversation.

“So, um. How many Orange Island badges do you have?”

“Oh. I just got my 4th today.” Luc said, fidgeting with one of her pokeballs on the strap of her bag, containing Sceptile. “I was planning on training tomorrow, and challenging the next day?”

“Good luck. I hear he has a Tyranitar.” Jason says with a smirk.

Luc stumbled, before quickly regaining her balance. “What?” She asked, confusion clearly evident in her voice. “I watched him battle this morning, before I went to the other gym. There was no Tyranitar. It’s six on six, right? Did someone…” Luc trailed off, glancing at Jason. “Never mind. Thanks for the.. tip.” She said slowly.

“No problem. And I battled him yesterday. Lux here was almost knocked out, but the Champ let me switch out. Typhlo did well until he was fainted, and Gallade did good too. He knocked out the final Pokemon. So I only had to use three.” Jason’s eyes are staring blankly ahead.

“Thanks for the rundown?” Luc said, hesitantly. “I can’t tell if you’re trying to help me or not. Wouldn’t it be more fair if you didn’t tell me the Pokemon you had?”

“The only other ball I have is Ampharos. And besides for Luxs ball, that’s it.”

“Wait. Hold on a minute.” Luc said, stopping where she was. “Why are you helping me?” She said, pointing and glaring at him, even though it was basically useless in this conversation. “You’re the champion of the Orange Islands. Don’t you want that title with your others?”

“I’m champion of four different regions. I am more than powerful, I’m a Pokemon master and you just flat out wouldn’t win.”

“You think I’m not aware of that fact now?” Luc said, sarcasm evident in her voice. “Maybe I wanted to try and do it myself, but no I need someone to straight up tell me what Pokemon they’re using? I didn’t even figure it out by myself.” She took a deep breath, trying to calm down.

“I still would’ve tried. But apparently it’s so inevitably hopeless that maybe I should just go somewhere else.” She said, muted. “I’ll just go back to Hoenn and give my little sister the sea ruby badge instead of a Shinx. Maybe I’ll try and beat the champion again, I was close last time.” Pause. “But I bet by the time I get to that point again you’ll have that champion title too so what’s the point.”

“I can still get you a Shinx. I can ask my mom to send me a low level one. You’ll just have to buy it from me. My mother is one of the top electric type breeders, you won’t find a better Shinx. Lux himself is the top 3 that my mom has breed.” Jason says proudly.

“Hell, I could get you one of his children. They might be a bit more expensive because they haven’t hatched yet.”

“Every Pokemon of yours I beat, drop the price by 100 poke dollars.”

“Fine by me. That is, if you can even hit my Pokemon. We should get to a more open spot first.” Jason quips back.

"Outside of town? There's a big training grounds I've past a couple of times."

"Every Pokemon of yours I beat, drop the price by 100 poke dollars."

"You think I'm not aware of that fact now?" Luc said, sarcasm evident in her voice. "Maybe I wanted to try and do it myself, but no I need someone to straight up tell me what Pokemon they're using? I didn't even figure it out by myself." She took a deep breath, trying to calm down.

"I still would've tried. But apparently it's so inevitably hopeless that maybe I should just go somewhere else." She said, muted.
