Listen, Ryan Gosling was brilliant as Ken. Absolutely brilliant. He played the goofiness so well. It literally wouldn’t be possible to play that role any better than he did.

But the idea that that role is more challenging, that performance more Oscar-worthy than Margot Robbie’s layered, conflicted arc as a doll whose physicality and emotional gamut becomes gradually more human over the course of a journey of self discovery, pouring forth genuine emotion WHILE ALSO leaning into the goofiness?

get to know me meme >> Favorite Movies [26/?] The New Romantic

When my dad saw my mom for the first time, there was no witty bio accompanying a flattering yet candid photo of her. She was just sitting on the bleachers on campus. And he knew right there and then that he was going to marry her. Because of that story, combined with an unhealthy binge of Nora Ephron movies when I had mono in high school, I always wondered what my love story would be. Playing foosball in a shitty diner with a college bro from Tinder wasn’t exactly what I had in mind. I bet you if Harry met Sally in 2018, they’d just end up as fuck buddies.

GET TO KNOW ME Favorite Characters ↳ James "Sawyer" Ford

"It was his name. He was a confidence man. Romanced my momma to get to the money, wiped them out clean, left a mess behind. So I wrote that letter. I wrote it knowing one day I’d find him. But that ain’t the sad part. When I was 19, I needed 6 grand to pay these guys off I was in trouble with. So I found a pretty lady with a dumb husband who had some money. And I got them to give it to me. How’s that for a tragedy? I became the man I was hunting. Became Sawyer."

What shall I say when my lord comes a calling? What shall I say when he knocks on my door? What shall I say when his feet enter softly? Leaving the marks of his grave on my floor. Enter my lord. Come from your prison. Come from your grave, for the moon is a risen. Welcome, my lord.
