❝ Do what? You’re Elena Gilbert. You can do anything. You could get tears from a rock. Or…blood, or whatever it is. ❞

There was a small smile on her face as she crossed her arms. “I think you’re mixing me up with Moses.”

“Caroline, how can you say that? I trusted you.” Of all the people she hoped to take her seriously, it was Caroline but it seemed that wasn’t so.

Things had been pretty rocky between them and there had been so many little things just pushing her over the edge but recent events had definitely sent her over the edge.
First there was the lying. No mention of Katherine or his ripper problem or the fact he was a hundred something year old vampire. Then there was the wickery bridge incident and god, Elena was shaking with terror and rage. “I can’t do this anymore,” her voice broke. “Why on god’s earth did you do that? There was no excuse for that.” Brown eyes were aflame. She had nearly died. How could he drive her over that bridge where her parents died, fully knowing this? The panic that triggered in her was causing her to tremble. No longer did she feel safe around him. “You terrify me and I want nothing to do with you. We’re through.”

“What do you need me for, exactly? Emotional support? To give you love that Katherine never did?” Ouch. That was probably too personal but people often said things when they were angry. “And it’s not just Wickery Bridge, Stefan, it’s all the lying and secrecy, and don’t get me started on what you did to Jeremy when he was becoming a hunter.” Yes, he was hurt but so was she. He hurt her, he hurt Jeremy, it was too much. “I-I can’t go on like this.”

“If you wanted my trust so badly, you shouldn’t have done those things in the first place.”

“My relationship with Stefan was anything but ‘epic’, Caroline, so just drop it.” Elena turned her gaze from Caroline and bit her inner cheek. She hadn’t meant to snap but her relationship with her ex was still a sore spot. It had been brought up in the middle of their so called girls’ night which was something Elena ddin’t want to do, though Caroline being Caroline, wouldn’t listen and insisted she, Elena, needed this. What Elena needed wasn’t chick flicks or gossip or board games, she wanted to breath. “I’m sorry for snapping, I just..” Grabbing her hoodie she made her way out. “I need some air.”

her eyes roll with ease. it wasn’t like caroline was blind to their problems, but she couldn’t help but try to put a positive spin on things. it was just the way she was wired.  elena ! as much as she could understand the loss of control over her temper, walking out was not something any forbes took kindly to. so without a second thought she made her way to elena’s side with a firm unmoving expression on her face.  i’m sorry for bringing up stefan, okay ? i was just trying to help. you’re just acting so sad & woe is me. i figured you needed a new perspective. it wasn’t the kindest way to put things, but it came with good intentions.  all i meant was having a love story at all is better than never knowing somebody truly loves you. i mean yeah it might hurt right now, but that’s because it’s important to you. & i don’t think that’s a bad thing.

As much as she felt like slapping her dear friend, she withheld. It wasn’t appropriate and Caroline meant well, she knew that. “You don’t get it, do you?” Elena was back to snapping. She felt anger well up in her, almost bubbling over like a hot pot on a stove. “Don’t give me that, Caroline. If you mean so well, try to be more tactful.” It was one thing that sometimes caused them to argue, that and Elena’s high emotions. “Stefan was important, emphasis on the was, but he lied and he drove me over Wickery Bridge and what he did to Jeremy? Trying to force him to complete that hunter’s mark? I’ll never forgive him. I’ll never forgive either Salvatore.” Sure there was the saying forgive not for their sake but for the sake of your own peace or something along those lines, but Elena was angry and she felt nothing but hot white fury.
