‘critical role: curious beginnings’ prompts

  • Oh! You’re finally awake, I see.
  • You were out for quite some time, there. Rough day, eh?
  • If you need to steal something, do it with my help, all right?
  • You’re very handsome. I just need to tell you.
  • We can’t accept this, right? I mean, it’s too much.
  • Don’t arouse suspicion, but did you hear all that coin hit that table, [name] ?
  • You should take a bath. You know they have showers here. It’s possible.
  • You’re being mighty fucking friendly. They were looking at our coin.
  • I don’t think I’ve seen you eat anything other than pastries.
  • Oh my gosh, you’re so smart. Look at this guy, he knows everything!
  • Your first card, the Silver Dragon. This is good. You’re pure, you’re virtue, you are a worthwhile and wonderful human being, obviously, or creature of some repute.
  • [name], don’t you remember us talking about keeping a low profile?
  • You’re cheating. Somehow you’re cheating.
  • You guys aren’t in any trouble, are you? No one’s after you?
  • I’m so glad you all came to see the show. It’s going to be great tonight.
  • Will you hold me through the show?
  • It’s a very swaddling hug. You’ve never experienced anything like it.
  • I ask you, each and every one of you grant us your imaginations this eve
  • [name]? We’re going to need those weapons back.
  • Man, I thought it was kind of lame at first, but this is awesome!
  • Magic, you’re using magic.
  • Nein!
  • Now is the part where we dance.
  • This thing’s swinging hard. Holy shit.
  • I’m going to workshop it, I’ll make something later. For now, it’s a placeholder.
  • There was a sick guy! There was an old sick guy and he turned into a zombie!
  • Stay where you are. Don’t go anywhere.
  • I’m terribly sorry. I– this has never happened. I don’t know what happened.
  • We gave her a family she didn’t have.
  • Jokes are great until they get you killed, man.

HIATUS NOTICE ;; hello, my loves. I’ve been... awful spotty lately, and down on the dash more often than actually enjoying writing. so I am going to try taking a little break from this blog. I love all my muses here, but I feel stretched thin when I’m already struggling, and it’s hard for me to maintain interest when I’m writing a muse once every month ( if even )
So here’s the plan: I’m going to take a break here. I’m going to pop back over for a couple of threads every so often as they cycle back to me, but I’ll otherwise largely be absent, and the vast majority of my threads are on hold.
WHERE TO FIND ME ;; I will be on Cam’s blog exclusively for the interim ( plus my secret blog for those who know it ). I swear I’ll actually figure out a Trek verse for him, and I’m more than happy to write other verses as needed, so no st.argate knowledge required.

Whether  it’s  naivety  or  sheer  force  of  will  to  believe  the  best  in  others,  she  takes  the  words  for  what  they  are.  If  anything,  there’s  an  almost  comfort  to  them.  Her  feelings  have  always  been  bigger  than  herself,  a  whirlwind  of  emotions  that  she  can’t  control,  always  threatening  to  burst  from  the  seams.  She’s  learnt  to  channel  them,  to  twist  and  filter  them  through  a  mask  of  joy  –  to  shine  light  on  the  darkest  parts  and  push  down  anything  that  can’t  be  illuminated.      “That’s  preeeetty  wise,  is  that  from,  like,  experience?”      Jester  asks,  having  long  lost  interest  in  the  food  infront  of  her,  pushing  around  the  leftovers  (  mostly  vegetables  )  as  she  leans  back  in  her  chair,  moving  her  attention  to  a  glass  of  chocolate  milk.

❛ Experience? ❜    Talia laughs, and for all she toys with the moment, the sound is genuine.    ❛ Nah, it just sounded cool. Well, actually, i suppose it really sounded like the sort of bullshit a self-help book would publish, but, hey, if they can pass it off as wisdom, why can’t I? ❜    She grins, and then stabs at a cherry tomato with her fork with sufficient force that her fork instead collided with bare plate, the tomato fired as if as a projectile over the edge of the plate, across the table, to fall to the floor and roll under a nearby table. Though Talia’s expression shifts briefly into a frown and then onward to a smirk, she makes no comment and certainly no effort to retrieve it.    ❛ Maybe I should write a book. What do you think? ❜

a gentle smile. ❝ i can’t tell if you actually haven’t read my file or if you’re just being polite about it. ❞ yet again, he’s proving her expectations wrong. maureen makes assumptions about people, especially since their mission went haywire. she doesn’t exactly have a great history with THE GOVERNMENT, but maybe adler’s more of a potential ally than she thought. ❝ i’ve been so focused on getting us there for so long now… i guess i just wanted to make sure it would actually be worth it. you know… brochures can make anything look nice. i figured you’d be up front with me. ❞ and yes, there is A DOUBLE MEANING in those words as her eyes meet his again: a challenge, an expectation. ❝ scientist to scientist. parent to parent. ❞

With a shake of the head, he leans forward to prod at the flames with a thin stick — scarcely more than a twig.    ❛ I have read your file. ❜    If he hadn’t before ( and he had, for all he rarely concerned himself with the colonists the Resolute carried across the stars ), recent events would have prompted, even necessitated it. The twig catches alight, and he’s swift to drop it. Eyes narrow, and he squints at her.    ❛ It might be a little late to be deciding if it’s worth it, don’t you think? ❜    Yet his tone remains amused, a wry smile upon his lips. More seriously, he adds,    ❛ But, parent to parent, my family seems happy there. And I, personally, am glad they are on Alpha Centauri, and not on Earth. ❜    It is no less vague an answer, but if there’s something more she seeks he cannot, despite his intelligence, quite pin it down.

❛ Everything else we shall destroy – everything. ❜    There’s no wavering in her confidence, no doubts that enemy pieces upon the gameboard before her will soon fall, leaving hers victorious. And if her smug attitude evokes protests of annoyance, she’s less concerned than perhaps she ought to be. It’s just a game, she’ll insist. Just a game, but that doesn’t mean she intends to lose.

The city bustles with more movement than Aline still believes possible. Too many years of quiet, of a certain peaceful contemplation, leave her poorly suited to such vibrant evidence of life. The last thing she desires is the furor of conversation, never more than a few moments away in the mess halls of the city, and so she take her food and slips away until the clamor fades into dim awareness.

Yet she knows that she’s not alone ( though ‘alone’ is rare enough unless she ventures into the less trodden piers of the city ), and, after a moment’s hesitation offers,    ❛ I was hoping my silence would fit yours. ❜    It’s half explanation for her presence and half request that she be permitted to stay. Though in hindsight, she considers ( too late ), she ought to have merely said that.
