Worth the Wait Part 3
Yoooo, Iβm back to post this and more than likely bounce again hahahaha whyareyoualllookingatmelikethat
Kagome sighed as she listened in on Inuyashaβs phone call, feeling the familiar unease and apprehension weigh down on her as the call progressed. For the first time in what felt like forever, she hadnβt woken up feeling helpless and lost. But now, sitting in the car with the door open, the sun warmβ¦ she just felt cold, numb.
They had just parked, out to run some errands since he finally had a day off. For his phone to go off as soon as they had opened their doors. Heβd glanced at it, finger hovering over the screen to mute it. But a second later, recognition flashed across his eyes, and heβd picked up as he shot a quick look at Kagome.
His phone used to stay on silent; he didnβt like anyone bothering him on his off days. But that had changed in the past six months. Between the countless appointments and their schedules changing because of said appointments, they both had their phones as loud as they could bear. Most of the time, he would dismiss the call, saying whoever called would call back if it was important enough.
It was rare for him to pick up right away; sometimes heβd even make Kagome call back, though not on purpose. And listening somewhat to the call now,β¦
She felt Inuyasha wipe a tear from her face, turning to face him. He stayed silent as she wiped her eyes, though she could practically feel the concern and worry blanketing her. She tried to smile back, but it quickly fell a moment later.
βCan I call you back if we decide to go through with what youβre suggesting? Or is it better to get the paperwork out of the way first?β
His eyes never left her face as he answered, looking like he wasnβt listening to whatever the person on the other line was saying. She could tell he was waiting for her choice, as he had been the past six months of seemingly unending phone calls.
And while she knew what her answer should be, Kagome just couldnβt bring her lips to form the words. She was so worn out from having to tell each new office about the situation. Of course she knew they were only trying to get all the information they needed in order to help them with the best outcome, butβ¦ she was so damn tired.
βHey, actually? I think weβre going to think on it a bit more before we start the paperwork and tests. Sorry for wasting your time.β
Inuyasha tossed his phone into the cup holder with a clatter, pulling Kagome into him a second later.
Kagomeβs vision blurred as she griped his shirt, her breathing stuttered as the tears started to flow.
Inuyasha heard a tiny mumble a few minutes later, tweaking an ear to hear better. A sound rumbled in his chest while he tried to get her to peel away from him.
βI didnβt catch what you said, love.β
She pulled back a second later, but not out of his arms. Kagome took a few steadying breaths, more to make sure she was done crying than ignoring him.
βI thinkβ¦I think I need a break.β
Inuyashaβs face scrunched in mild confusion, but he could tell she was going to say more, so didnβt interrupt.
βIβ¦β She sighed heavily, as if a weight was crushing her. βI need to not think about all this anymore.β
Inuyasha tried to keep his feelings in check as she looked out the windshield. He could only imagine how hard it must be for her to say that. It seemed like she was constantly being poked for test after test, a cheery front every time a technician took another vial for yet another test. Honestly, he couldnβt blame her; it was taxing. And while they both wanted to grow their family, it wasnβt going to happen if she wasnβt in a good place herself.
Kagome turned to him, her puffy eyes barely masking surprise.
He smirked as he shrugged, pulling her in for a quick squeeze before sitting back in the driverβs seat. He busied himself with getting her wallet and keys so they could actually run their errands.
βWeβll wait until youβre ready. Weβve got all the time in the world.β
