whenever i'm trying to talk myself out of buying something i don't need i always hear my old russian professor's voice echoing in my head: "WHAT??? WILL YOU DIE THE RICHEST MAN IN THE GRAVEYARD?" and then i make an unwise financial decision

i'm so glad i happened to see these tags this is the best thing anyone has added to this post so far

one of the most infuriating things about becoming an adult is when you realize that it actually is 10x easier to solve problems by making a phone call vs literally any other communication method

most of the talk on this website about Game Changer is how Sam Reich psychologically tortures his contestants, but I want to make it clear to the uninitiated that he's actually extremely ethical about it

He sends out a company wide email and asks them to choose episodes based on a chili pepper rating system

meaning he doesn't put 🌶️🌶️ people into 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ episodes

they're also big on consent ie cast and crew have to be okay with it before they'll do nudity or something like that in an episode

it's like the bdsm of psychological torture. safe, sane, and consensual.

the contestants know what they're getting into, and they're full down

everyone in the tags/replies is really knocking it out of the park

is game changer rack or ssc?

I'm curious, because apparently not everyone draws their 3d basis vectors the way I do.

For me, it's either

  • x and y in plane like Cartesian, with z facing out of the page (when most of what I care about is in one plane)
  • x going out to the right, y to the left, and z up, when I want to draw something in a 3d perspective.

I just saw my teacher draw this absolutely foul set of basis vectors (for no good reason, all the forces were coming out of the page) and it sparked my ire so much I needed to ask someone

Yeah it's instinctive to me that x and y are 'flat' and z is 'pointy', so this looks weird to me too. Though I think I have seen someone draw them like this at some point...

Damnit, I missed the opportunity to say 'these look like perfectly normal basis vectors to me'

lol + this looks good to me because

  1. obeys the right hand rule (x × y = z, imagine hats)
  2. x and y are still “flat” (I agree that’s a good thing) because they lie on the ground—the flattest place! (up/down is distinguished irl by gravity, so it makes sense if it’s z)
  3. x still points to the right from this perspective
  4. typical for graphing scalar functions of two variables like f(x,y) in 3D

I really like the word “smitten”. because at first glance you just think of sappy lovey-dovey stuff but also you have to remember this is a word that’s born of the word “smite.” a devastating word. a word that, summarized, means stricken. smitten means stricken as well — struck with devastating affection.
