You heard the door squeal open, letting in an icy draught, as well as your boyfriend Tamaki. Rising from your seat in the cosy living room, you headed to greet him in the hallway. His back was turned to you and you watched as he rid himself of his coat and boots. You admired his slim but muscular form, even as he shivered against the cold that still invaded his bones. Though he wore a knitted sweater over his shirt expressly to give him an extra layer of warmth, you could still see a scattering of goose pimples around his neckline. His breath shuddered out from between his slightly blue lips and you longed to warm him up.
“Welcome home, Tamaki,” you said in a voice low enough that you hoped it wouldn’t startle him, but he still jumped as he spun to face you.
“S-sorry,” he mumbled, his face firing up with a scarlet glow as his eyes turned away from you in embarrassment. “You were so quiet. I didn’t hear you come to meet me.”
“You don’t need to apologise for that,” you said, smiling to show him he didn’t need to feel awkward around you.
Tamaki was shy, awkward, and self-deprecating, and even though you’d been dating for a year and had moved in together over a month ago, he still wasn’t at complete ease around you. You knew he was half-expecting you to break up with him at some point. He’d said it himself, suggesting that you’d probably find someone better, more deserving. But you only wanted him. For all his flaws, he was handsome, caring, heroic, and loyal. He was the love of your life, and you wanted him to feel that love every moment you were together. But it would be a lot easier if he weren’t so down on himself all the time.
“You look cold,” you said, moving to take his hands in yours.
Tamaki nodded, his cheeks still rouged with blush, though now a much less intense shade, and the corners of his lips lifted slightly at your intimate gesture.
You squeezed his hands, which felt like ice, and pulled him a little closer, lifting your face so that your lips could meet his. Before they could, however, a loud grumble emanated from Tamaki’s stomach. His eyes widened as he snatched his hands away, spinning on the spot and pressing his forehead against the wall he now faced.
