Jack was in such a vulnerable place before he started dating Rachel and what he really needed was a friend or just some sort of comfort.. I don’t want to hate on Rachel bc her character is rlly just bad writing but that man was not in the right headspace to be in a relationship and someone should’ve stopped him 😞

I feel like Jack just felt so lonely and needed to focus his emotions somewhere else. also I think he truly wanted to be with Eric and Rachel was the closest thing bc of their competition

Jack ultimately needed the comfort of his friends and to be reminded that he wasn't a bad brother as he grieved. It would've been a perfect continuation of the chat he & Eric had in S4E2 if they'd had had Eric come in and give Jack reassurance and comfort then with no strings or forced romances attached. This would've been a nice contrast to all the competition they'd been having over Rachel, with their friendship coming through when it really matters. Think how sweet it might have been if Eric had brought Jack home to chat with and get some fatherly advice from Alan, too. We always see him there for Shawn, who's to say he wouldn't have been there for Jack as well? He promised Chet, after all.

It's such a pity Rachel got caught up in all of this, too. I mean, she and Jack clearly are friends given the fact they stay so close after their breakup. There was an opportunity for her to be a really solid support system for Jack as he grieved. If they had to stick with the whole triangle storyline, they could've done something like have Eric mistake her hugging Jack to calm him down & hanging out with him to keep him from being alone with his thoughts as Jack 'winning,' only for it to be revealed somehow that she was only helping him through things. It would've been a perfect time for Eric to step in, put aside their competition again, and join her in helping their friend heal, because ultimately their friendship means WAY more. It was possible, and Rachel deserved to become so much more than just some writing pawn.

I need Steve to hotwire something in season 5 because he’s actually so much more Observant than people give him credit for and he learned just from watching over Eddie’s shoulder and I need him to have his moment please

Also I love that Steve was genuinely interested in watching Eddie hotwire. He’s like “I’ve been hunting monsters and screwing around with government operations for years, how come I don’t know how to hotwire?? And I love cars, I’m a car guy, why don’t I know how to steal one?? This is a skill I need, show me now.”

i already have a job and it's called keeping myself alive. why do i have to be employed on top of that
