fics that are like 500 to 1200 words or so often have a particular kind of energy to me - like the author sat bolt upright in bed, struck by the most brilliant inspiration of their entire lives, and then typed as fast as their fingers would allow them to in order to capture it all before it left.

oneshots that are just a straight, clear shot from the brain to the page with no real filter in between? that's good stuff right there.

cannot recommend more putting secrets and hints in your creative work that you dont expect anyone to figure out

act like youve got a ravenous fanbase of a million people poring over every detail, cuz then if nobody figures it out you feel cool n smug knowing something nobody else does, and if someone does figure it out then its like theyve joined a secret society

I have a line in a published novel that's a reference to something that only my tablemates from high school science class would get, because I haven't written those aliens into anything else yet.

Nobody else knows, but High School Me is chortling with glee.

When you're posting a work on AO3, one of the options you have is to add relationship tags to your work. Sometimes you'll see tags that look almost exactly the same and you might wonder what the difference is.

A/B indicates that person A and person B have a romantic or sexual relationship in this fic.

A&B indicates that person A and person B have a non-romantic and non-sexual relationship in this fic - they are friends, colleagues, family members etc. who have a platonic relationship.

If you want to add more specific information about what kind of relationship the characters have in your story, you can use the additional tags or the summary to let readers know more about what they're in for.

Editing to add: Oh yes! And it doesn't matter which character you list first in your tag. They both filter the same way in the site's database.

have you ever read a fanfic so good that you wanted to write a fanfic about that fanfic, but was too shy / too intimidated to ask for the author’s permission and too afraid that your writing wouldn’t be half as good as theirs and that it would be an insult to their work that was basically a literal masterpiece, so you just sat there fantasizing about their work and how beautiful it was and how you wished you could just eat it and how you wished canon could write your blorbos half as good as this writer did and how you just wanted to cry because you just loved that fic so much????

sometimes I wonder if Ahsoka was really meant to be obi-wans padawan since he says “maybe it’s MY padawan” bcs he already “mentioned it to the council” and then he’s shocked when she says she’s ANAKINS padawan!!

Does that mean he had nothing to do with it? or did he lowkey plan this with Yoda bcs anakin just lost an arm and (as far as they know) a girlfriend and a mom and was thrown into a war at 19 and recently knighted and left in charge alone of an entire battalion and say like “damn maybe we should get him like. A therapy animal or something” “why not just a whole child? Worked for me (<- traumatized by getting a child and not a therapy animal)” “right are you obi-wan. A padawan we will give him”

I've seen this get talked about before and I always think about a part in Master & Apprentice it's stated that members of the Jedi Council are not allowed to have a padawan until they are adjusted to the added duties of serving the council. It's also a real possibility they were like you're on the council now and didn't think it was wise for Obi-Wan to take on a padawan when he's relativity new to the role.
