I don't trust anyone who hasn't acknowledged their capacity for evil.

"I'm just a smol bean uwu" No sir, what you are is someone who is so habituated to thinking of yourself as innocent that you will continue to do so even when you're guilty.

To quote Chris Fleming

"You know that thing where the most toxic person you've ever met over-relates to woodland creatures on social media? I call it Vibe Dysphoria. She'll put up a picture of a mouse in a jean jacket with 'It's me.' That is not you. I don't know how you got under the impression that you are a mouse in a jean jacket. You are an eel with a gun.She posts a toad with a basket of mushrooms like 'Me doing my little things.' Oh madam, there is nothing little about your things. You gave me psychosexual issues I'll carry to my watery grave. You are not a toad in the forest...You are a cruel woman who just happens to be small."--Chris Fleming

rocky horror is the worst and is also transmisogynistic can we please finally get over this shit movie

ok but like the writer is transgender nonbinary and the language used in the play was the preferred language by trans people of that time can we not deny parts of our history because we’ve evolved since then thanks

So fucking much this.

PS, youth of today: you’ll be saying the same damn thing about art from this time before too long, for good or for ill. Terminology will, in fact, change. Definitions will, in fact, shift. It always does, they always do.Β

PPS, it is pretty much impossible to overstate how life-alteringly important this movie was to kids who didn’t conform to standard expectations of gender and sexuality, back in the day. Especially when back in the day was the mid-to-late 1980s, when the only queers you saw on TV were neutered AIDS tragedies, Bowie was playing straight, and even Elton John was married to a woman, and midnight showing of RHPS were pretty much the only place that felt like home. It was mental life raft for a lot of people.

I was one of them.

ALSO IT’S A SATIRE IT’S SUPPOSED TO BE AN β€œOFFENSIVE” PORTRAYAL IT’S MAKING FUN OF STRAIGHT PEOPLE WHO ARE AFRAID OF US IT’S EXAGGERATING THEIR IDEAS OF US TO THE POINT OF LUDICROUSNESS THAT’S THE ACTUAL POINT

It was that one space where anybody could be and present themselves as they pleased.

Showings of RHPS during high school were my first real taste of queer community. They literally kept me alive in ways I didn’t understand at the time.

I still don’t understand why I got away with going to RHPS with my boyfriend. Probably because I had a boyfriend, IDK.

I don't wanna @ anyone because I understand how fast things seem to move in today's landscape of streaming shows dropping entire seasons in one day, and networks pumping out new series constantly to try to attract more subscribers with no intent to actually maintain those shows over time but I just saw someone self-deprecatingly lament that they are still thinking about a show that ended almost a year ago, making fan art and playlists for it, and I want to be very clear:

you can still create fanworks when it comes to old media!! PLEASE do!! there are always going to be new fans who will appreciate it, and veteran fans who are dying for new content and new perspectives. also, less than a year is NOTHING. the original Star Trek series was on TV six decades ago and there are still people losing their minds over it, writing stories and reblogging gifsets daily, and that's only one example.

a fandom lasts as long as there are people who love a thing, even if it's only a handful of people. love what you love and write and draw and make gifs and playlists about it!

i'll never understand why some people have a problem with trigger warnings. if the content being warned for doesn't bother you then you can just use it as a recommendation. literally where is the problem. everyone wins.

content warning: this media contains excessive gore and violence that some viewers may find disturbing

me: how thoughtful of them to warn for that so that people can avoid or at least be prepared for things that might upset them

also me:

not to be crude but the people who think Laios is one of those fandom characters that doesnt know what sex is are completely missing like. his whole deal. you think the dude who obsessively studies monster anatomy and behaviors doesn't know what sex is? you think he hasn't memorized the mating rituals of every single goddamn beast under the sun? you think he doesn't have an encyclopedic knowledge on how to fuck? thats his goddamn special interest brother. he knows sex better than anyone on the goddamn planet.

sorry if i am piggybacking on your post punkitt and making it too serious but i keep finding this to crop up as a trend where people in a fandom take a character and go "this character is so naive (and neurodivergent) that they can't know what sex is!" and like. does this feel really infantalizing to anyone else? especially when the character is just an adult man. he's 26 in a race that has an average lifespan of 60. he was almost married. he knows how living armor fucks. I don't want to name examples or put anyone's headcanons down but this has been weighing on me how fandom spaces treat autistic characters as sexless. it also plays into a lot of the harmful ideas that causes autistic people not having all the reproductive rights and access they should to act like they are unaware of the world. I don't want to say this in a way that people can't have ace headcanons but I want people to think what they are saying when they add these ideas onto characters with mental or physical disabilities and check they aren't saying anything that comes off as insensitive (even if they don't mean to do so).

no actually go off yeah. its weird as hell when people act like adult characters with neurodivergent tendencies are babies that need to be coddled for some reason. its like a complete misread of a character and a bizarre way of looking at other people.

like characters can be ace if you want without them being oblivious to sex existing or whatever. They can just not care to have it.

Or if that's not the direction you're wanting to go, maybe the context we're seeing them in is just not the time for sex or sexual attraction to come up, because contrary to what some people/hollywood seem to think, people who feel sexual attraction don't constantly think about sex and aren't constantly in some level of horniness or w/e, and there are fully times when it's just like "yeah now's not the fucking time?"

Or maybe some other thing, who knows!

Just maybe, if you're looking at neurodivergent-coded adult characters and your instinct is to treat them like a child, consider why you're infantilizing them, and then maybe don't.

Let's take a moment to appreciate just how amazing the title cards were for Batman the Animated Series.

Oh! I actually know what made these look so iconic!

The backgrounds for the entire series were done on black paper, a first for any animated show. It's Batman, which means everything is at night and incredibly dark. So, the majority of the backgrounds were going to be black anyways and using black paper would cut down on the time it took to create all of the backgrounds. Adding color over the black paper instead of the traditional method gave it a much more stylized look that helped make it iconic.

It also forced some other creative choices, such as using an airbrush to do all of the background art. During the early testing, they found that using an airbrush was easier to apply paint with than a paintbrush and that it looked better. Airbrushing let them be more experimental with painting techniques, such as the spattery fades you can see in the "Bane" and "Deep Freeze" title cards above or the soft, deeply shadowed face on "the Last Laugh." The overall effect of airbrushing on a black background is a much darker, moodier vibe than could be achieved with a traditional approach.

They cared very deeply about the art of the show and how they were going to create it. It wasn't just about the story or the character. In the words of co-creator Eric Radomski: "As opposed to making shows just to sell toys, we've made quality films."

Yes, such a claim makes him look like a small-minded piece of shit. To us. But we still shouldn't help Musk create revisionist history.

Musk bought Twitter because he fucked around and found out. He wanted to fuck with Twitter's stock price by feigning interest in buying it. Since that's illegal, he was then cornered into actually buying it for an insanely inflated price.

He's a transphobe. He's a bad father. But he's also a fucking idiot.

the problem with not voting in order to send the message that you hate all the candidates and the entire system and therefore refuse to participate is that it's completely indistinguishable, as a signal, from not bothering to vote because you think the system is great and all the candidates are great and you'd be fine with any of them. so you might want to rethink the strategy there

This, by the way, also implies the converse problem: that it's very easy to attribute to active and reflexive dissent what's only apathy and indifference.

i want to give this a shoutout for being one of a very few comments in over seven thousand notes to say something really interesting that's responding to the actual content of the post instead of what people imagine i'm saying here

The time to protest at the ballot box is during the primary.

The general election is time to vote against the bigger asshole.
