In fact, she’d deluded herself so much into not thinking about anything but sleep that she didn’t take notice of when the car stopped, the driver got out, or when he returned with an amused and concerned Johnny. Or when Johnny coerced her into wrapping her legs around his waist and arms around his neck so he could carry her into the building along with her bags. 

His struggle to keep her backpack from sliding off his shoulder was the first time she perceived him, but that was short lived. Her body found comfort that she’d been missing as she clung to him and finally allowed her to drift into real sleep. It didn’t last long, but it was enough that when she opened her eyes they didn’t hurt.

Johnny sat on their bed with YN in his lap, her body facing off to the side. One of his hands cupped her face as he spoke to her.

“Baby, can you stay up for a little while? You need to shower and eat something.”
