It does make me wonder if she was a homophobe, racist, facist etc whether her ‘fans’ would still be like - but you can support the art but not the artist’ She isnt like Lovecraft who everyone knows he was a racist bigot. He is dead, his work is known for it’s time but it’s not affecting current policy, like JK Rowlings work IS.

As I was searching info for a Grindeldore I'm writing (yes, your Grindeldore, anon) I came to a realisation: Albus kept things from Harry because that's how he was brought up.

His parents were always about keeping secrets to protect their loved ones: his father went to Azkaban hiding the real motive behind him killing the muggles that hurt his daughter so that Ariana didn't have to grow up in Saint Mungo's. His mother hid Ariana, not even letting her go to Hogwarts, for the very same purpose.

Albus even lied to himself about Gellert Grindelwald's real nature just because he wanted to believe him - just because he came to love him.

Lying and hiding things in the Dumbledore family meant caring for each other.

Albus lied and kept things from Harry because he actually thought he was taking care of him in that way.

I'm not saying it isn't a toxic behaviour or that it was the best thing Dumbledore did with Harry, because we know Harry's life could have been a bit less fucked up if he was told things from the beginning.

But I think that it was all Albus knew about loving someone else. It was how Albus was taught to love.

Fudge came to power instead, but he’s never quite forgotten how much popular support Dumbledore had, even though Dumbledore never applied for the job.’

...well he was plotting to take over the world before his dick boyfriend tortured his bother and his sister died. And the reason he didn't apply was because he didn't trust himself with power. Say thanks to Aberforth, Fudge.
