cruel summer season 2 definitely could have been a continuation of season 1. yes, the Jeanette v. Kate storyline is complete, but they could've touched on so much more. Some of my ideas:

Ben and Vince. Even though I actually don't mind their open ending, we could've seen them working towards restoring what they had
Jamie in general. He definitely had a lot more going on than what we got to see, there has to be something to work with there, like mental health, his relationship with Jeanette after the trial, maybe what actually happened when Kate was missing
Kate and Mallory. They really introduced a ship just to end the series 😭
Tenille. Her family had a lot of secrets - just like Kate's. They could've done a more in-depth look at them.
Alternate perspectives!! I've been thinking about this for a while. Season 1 focused on Kate and Jeanette, understandably, and how they viewed each other. Even though we kind of know how the other characters felt about the case, it could be interesting to look at scenes from their perspectives and maybe get a bit more information, like reactions and discussions between characters.
The same three years, at different times. Like how exactly Jeanette took over Kate's life in 1993/4. Kate and Mallory's development from friends to lovers between 1994 and 95. What happened with Jamie after the crash, like how other people reacted and how it affected him. Realizations that Kate was actually missing, not just skipping school. I could go on honestly 😭
